Not Getting Rich!

in Dessert, Dinner

I just got back from 2 meetings back to back that ran from 6:00-10:00PM. I feel so frazzled right now. It’s been the longest day ever (you’ll see why) and I just need some down time right now….but I have work to do :(

So after I got back from Golf class today, I could not find a SINGLE parking spot anywhere in ‘Central Campus’–where I live and the only place I am allowed to park…legally. I finally decided to park beside a fenced off area of the lot–I HAD to. I got back 1 hour later and I had a $100 ticket. Seriously!? What was I supposed to do!? I am only permitted to park in lots marked ‘Central’ and they were full. I am able to appeal the ticket and it will be reviewed by a committee (oh boy). Allow me to share my appeal paragraph with you:

To Whom it May Concern:

I live on Central Campus and I have a Central parking pass. I had to drive my car to go off campus for a PE class today. When I came back, I circled many of the parking lots on Central Campus for about 15-20 minutes and could not find a single one! At this point I was dizzy from heat and extreme hunger. I only had a short period of time between my classes and I desperately needed to go into my apartment to eat and grab my stuff. I wasn’t sure what to do. I was stuck! At the time I thought parking next to the construction fence would be okay temporarily, however, now I know that is not permitted and will not do that ever again. I’m still getting used to living and parking on Central Campus and I hope you can excuse my poor parking decision today. Thank you for your time.

As if they don’t have enough of my money already.

My next class was a Markets and Management/Sociology class called Getting Rich. Obviously not me with this stupid ticket! This is one of the few classes I’m taking here purely for the joy of learning. It’s hard for me to take risks and choose interesting classes because most of the time they are way over my head and well, I can’t exactly fail out of school! This class is about financial markets and how they affect personal wealth and well-being. We’re going to cover topics such as markets for housing, stock and bonds, and credit. I know absolutely nothing about financial markets and I feel like I need to get some idea before I graduate! My absolute favorite professor is teaching this class and I’m so thrilled to be in her class (I sound like a major dork but you all would love her too!).

Afterwards I grabbed a wrap from our new wrap bar in the dining hall. It was Subway style so I got to choose what I wanted. I ended up getting the Moroccan Vegetable Salad Wrap–all the ingredients looked yummy and I probably would have composed something similar.

I felt like a total creeper taking these photos but I wanted to show you all the bar!

I ate half before going to the Duke Fuqua School of Business (Hi Meg and her hub) to do a simple business experiment for $8. It took 10 minutes! Cool huh? That should pay almost all of my movie ticket when I go to see Food Inc. with Sarah on Thursday!

I ate the second half after I got back to the apartment. I had to skip spinning because of my meetings tonight. Sad face. Oh well, I would have been even more frazzled had I gone. At one of my meetings we had ice cream sundaes. I got to be the ice cream scooper! I wish you could have seen how ridiculously excited I was about this. I think I just wanted to get out of talking to people haha. It’s been a long day what can I say?

I had a scoop and a half of vanilla i.c. w/ a brownie bite, a mini cookie, and 4 mini Oreos. It was good but I was still a bit hungry since I ate ‘dinner’ early so I had a Z-bar just now.

Okay, my bed has papers thrown everywhere. I just went to a meeting today discussing applying for jobs, interviewing for jobs, sending out resumes and cover letters and it is stressing. me. out. to. the. max. All I want to do is read all of your blogs. I apologize in advance for being sporadic the next couple of days!

Bummer about the ticket! I hope your appeal works out. Central Campus parking is so ridic–all the hospital staff likes to park in our lot.
You have such an eye for GOOD on campus fare–I have been lame and just preparing stuff at the apartment. That wrap is from the Great Hall, I assume?

I`ve been in the same situation with a parking ticket when I lived on campus. It was the day that Obama came to speak at North Carolina State University. I had left to go to work, and when I got back, all the parking spaces in my section had been taken up by people attending the speech (people who had no passes, I must add). So I parked in another section. I went to class, came back an hour letter only to find that I had a parking ticket! Thankfully it was only a warning, but I was apalled that they would ticket me when they didn’t ticket anyone that had attended the speech without a parking pass.

Good luck with your appeal! Man, I think $100 is a little steep :P that’s just kinda pathetic.

Sorry to hear about the ticket. I think your letter is very good. Maybe they’ll take it easy on you and waive the ticket seeing that it’s the beginning of the school year and you were in a tough situation. Good luck.

That wrap bar is awesome. I’d spend all my money there if I went to your school!

BREATHE! Whew, sounds like you had quite the day–I’m sorry about your ticket! :( But that’s a great letter that you wrote and it’s crazy for them to fine you $100. Parking is intense where I go to school as well and sometimes I could just scream! Yum, the wrap bar looks awesome!

Ah! Create your own sundaes are my weakness.

Hang in there! The week can only get easier. Tickets are the worst.

A $100 parking ticket? That’s insane. I hope you win your appeal!

Great looking sub “station”. Lots of great choices there!

I didn’t know a single life about “real life” living until I got a job and moved 700 miles from my parents. Now I’m forced to do everything myself, but I do call them every time before I do something new. I know nothing about buying a house or the stock market or anything…it’s so bad!

That wrap looks super yummy. :)

I would LOVE to be the ice cream scooper!

Dude, that is nuts :( I’m sorry. Good luck with the appeal! Breathe, focus and take this one step at a time. Semester kick-offs can be killer, big-time. Have faith that you can and WILL get through this.

Kind of want to fly out to NC to try that wrap…

The campus parking police is the worst.

All my senior friends are scrambling to get stuff ready for job applications too. You’ll get back to your normal schedule soon enough though

Good luck on that appeal!

I’m sorry about your super stressful day :( But that letter is really great, and I’m sure it will be fine! Job searching can be stressful in the beginning but try not to get too overwhelmed–you’ll get used to it soon enough!

(one for you, one for me, one for you, one for me) hope the stress cools off soon!

Sorry to hear about your ticket. One time I was having trouble signing up for classes online so I had to haul my booty over to counselor on campus. I parked in the meter and put in 1 hour worth of coins ($2.00). I thought it would be a quick in and out trip, but it took longer than I thought and I still did not get my classes. When I came back, a parking enforcement was starting to write my a TICKET. He let me go and I BURST into tears and gave him a hug!! I was having an EXTREMELY bad day and his gesture was like the ultimate kindness.
