TJ’s Mania

TJ’s for me stands for 2 places…and I went to both of them yesterday!

1) TJ Maxx: where I got this cool running skirt! Inside is yellow spandex shorts…yes! There is a zipper on the bottom left side–what is that for? Any ideas?

2) Trader Joe’s: No explanation needed :)

Breakfast was this angelic bowl:

See below for what went inside…

One of my ultra cool purchases yesterday was these Berry Mango Bran Muffins.

IMG_6415.JPG

Their stats and ingredients are pretty stellar!  They’ve got 10g of fiber and 6g of protein per muff. They are soft, chewy, and moist. I think I still prefer the Carrot Ginger Muffins, but only because I’m a carrot-baked-good fiend.

IMG_6417.JPG

I also got a box of High Fiber Fruit & Nut Multigrain Medley cereal. I rarely buy boxes of cereal because I end up snacking mindlessly by the handful. However, my schedule requires that I eat a hearty breakfast with little preparation time. This will be a test for me!

IMG_6421.JPG

It wasn’t the most addicting cereal in the world and there aren’t as many fruits and nuts as the box photo makes it seem. That makes it sort of hard to eat by the handful…Good!  Oh and it’s got 7g of fiber per serving.

The muffin and cereal were floating in Kefir. I bought one from Whole Foods and one from TJ’s to see the difference…and because I go through these bottles like they’re holy water. It looks like I have a tart dairy addiction….

I’ll be posting about kefir tomorrow!

The TJ’s #2 mania continued through dinner.

Broccoli Slaw contains sliced broccoli and carrots. That’s it!

IMG_6432.JPG

I used Sesame Soy Ginger Vinaigrettte as the dressing. I am not a big fan of traditional cole slaw so I figured I would steer clear of creamy dressing.

IMG_6437.JPG

I adapted the TJ’s recipe on the bag. I mixed the dressing in the slaw and topped it with pecans and raisins. I also added some acorn squash that I got as a side from the dining hall. The squash was purrrrfectly cooked. This was the crunchiest salad (slaw) I have ever eaten!! It reminded me of a crunchy noodle dish. The dressing worked so well with the pecans and raisins too.

Crunch crunch crunch crunch.

IMG_6440.JPG

On the side I had some brocamole+guacamole and Ak Mak crackers.

In terms of movement, I walked for 40 min. and went on the Arc Trainer for 30 min. at the gym. I got a little fiber-friendly today so running wasn’t really in the cards :( Plus, my shins are starting to ache so I figured there is always tomorrow to run!

I’m about to go bury my head in accounting homework. There’s one more job I know I would not want to work! Enjoy the last few hours of your weekend!

Love all your purchases! No idea what the zipper would be for, maybe a key?

Cute running skirt! I really want to get a mountain biking skirt so I can wear it to class & go for a ride after, without a. wearing tight-ass spandex or b. looking like a boy in board shorts.

I am looking forward to your post about Kefir, I am intrigued by it, but I’m not sure I would like it!

OMG, the acorn squash+slaw dish sounds perfect! I never buy cereal because I snack on an entire box if I don’t catch myself. ;)
Was the wheat bran baked into the muffins or was it used as topping? I’m thinking of experimenting with wheat bran… Thanks!
Have just caught up on your previous posts. The brocamole looks amazing!

Ah, now I know. Wheat bran is mixed into the dough while wheat germ is the one used for toppings to baked goods! :D

That tart frozen yogurt at trader joe’s is SO GOOD. I want them to carry it year round… I wonder if they will!

The muffins look great, yum! 10g of fiber is fabulous too! Ive never had a muffin sprinkled in cereal or on yogurt… May have to try one day! I do wish we had some of the stores you have in the U.S. here in Canada!

So jealous of your running skirt! TJ Maxx is so awesome. I actually wrote a post a while back about “the other TJ in my life.” Haha.
This is weird with our samesies deal–I bought that broccoli slaw and that cereal last night too. I was very close to buying those muffins as well!

Oh Allie! You’re a girl after my own heart. I love both TJ’s as well. Nice job on all the Trader Joe’s products, especially the muffins. They look so good! I also like how your mixed and matched your squash you snagged from the dining hall with your cole slaw. Very creative and resourceful! Have a great week!

Gotta love TJ’s brand! I love that they have their own, junk-free brand and it’s on the cheap!

ugh SO jealous of all your trader joes goods. Wish they had them in Australia. The zipper is probably in case your stride is wider than the skirt, you can unzip it a little so your legs can spread as far apart as they want. mm that sounded interesting…

maybe your skirt is a tennis skirt… lots of tennis skirts have zippers in the shorts underneath to hold a tennis ball?

Love those eats!
And I love TJ Maxx…I always go there when I’m on holiday in the US:)

What a cute skirt. I need to get myself a running skirt. They are so glam!

I got the same cereal on my last TJ run and I really enjoy it. Especially with the addition of fresh berries. It’s very refreshing tasting.

Hope you have a great day hun!

That skirt is so adorable, I love it!! Maybe the zipper is for a pocket? So nothing goes flying out? Hmm

Cute running skirt!

I’m so jealous that you are so close to Trader Joe’s, but I think my wallet is OK with it!

I LOVE running skirts and actually have a bunch of them! The zipper is more or less to allow you to show more leg (for a better breeze)- great for when it’s hot. In the summer I’m fully unzipped, not so much in the fall…

TJ’s is great, especially the Carrot Ginger muffins…crazy delish!!

I loove sesame soy ginger dressing! So yummy on anything! I definitely want to try the running skirt someday! Thanks for the good wishes about my italy dilemma =)

I cracked up at Ellen’s comment; I think it’s also either a tennis skirt or that you can zip it in case your legs need more space!

Both TJs = heaven and hell at the same time. I can easily spend at least a week’s paycheck at both places, but they are sooooo amazing.

I also love seeing what your kitchen is stocked with. You are so completely opposite from what I was for 85% of my college life in terms of healthy living and eating and it’s so fabulous to see someone who gets it early on! My former college self wishes she were more like you :)

Cute running skirt! As soon as your shins feel better we should hit the Wa Duke trail for a run!

Maybe the zipper is for sex appeal? Does it unzip a little for a slit? I sure hope not…

I usually don’t comment on blogs, but this recipe changed my opinion. I just write to say thank you!
