Massage For The Cure

Today has been the most hectic relaxing day of my life!! Haha what an oxymoron! I popped up at 6:45 am pretty awake (I won’t go as far as saying wide awake). I had a TJ’s Berry Mango Muffin slathered in almond butter and an iced coffee to drink in class.

I really wasn’t hungry at all and getting this in my tum tum was all I had time for. As a result of eating too little, boy did I have the JITTERS all morning!!

IMG_6454.JPG

Jitters=awful putting performance! Today was the final day of our putting contest in Golf class. Sadly, my partner (the instructor, ha! I’m so lame) and I didn’t win :( .

Afterwards, I came back to the apartment to finish up my Kefir post and made a Kefir-mazing Grass Monster:

IMG_6481.JPG

In the mix:

-1/4 cup kefir (which Katiemoo and Lauren both informed me is pronounced keh-fear, hey bro you were right!)

-1/2 cup TJ’s Greek Yogurt

-1/2 banana

-1/2 packet of Berry Amazing Grass (see below)

-1 cup frozen spinach

-1/4 cup pomegranate juice

I like putting in a little bit of many different ingredients if you haven’t noticed!

IMG_6449.JPG

I used to drink these guys (and wheat grass too) before they appeared in the blogosphere and then for some reason stopped. I like them in my smoothies in small doses! I’ve never tried it straight w/ water though–Good Idea?? Yes? No? Maybe so?

I had a crunchy lunchy today. I ate these as a full sandwich but I wanted to show you the insides first. Good thing I took this photo because when I went to flip the sammy on the pan, some of it came tumbling down!!! I need want a George Foreman grill!!!

IMG_6490.JPG

Cucumbers, avocado, goat cheese, smoked salmon and broccoli slaw….whew! Say that 5 times fast :)

IMG_6488.JPG

Post-operation and toasting i.e. desperately piecing all the ingredients back together.

IMG_6497.JPG

IMG_6496.JPG

One more photo for good luck…

IMG_6498.JPG

I opted for a new bread–not cinnamon raisin Ezekiel–this time. Instead, I branched out and got this loafer. Sprouted Flourless Whole Wheat Berry Bread--try saying that 5 times fast too!! 2g of fiber and 5g of protein PER slice, cha ching!!

IMG_6502.JPG

THEN…DUN DUN DUN….I got a massage!!! My sorority’s philanthopy is Breast Cancer Education and Awareness so we were informed of this amazing deal a few weeks ago–$35 for 1 hour!!! The event was just for today. $10 from each massage today will be donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. They are hoping to raise $500,000.

IMG_6503.JPG

The. Lady. Obliterated. My. Back. And. It. Was. Amazing. She warned me that she tends to massage verrrrrry deeply….it was just what I wanted and needed though! She said what she did on me wasn’t even comparable to the deep tissue she performs on her other clients. O. M. Gaaaahhhh!!! With some of her clients she walks on their back (the deepest)!!!!! WALKS!

IMG_6504.JPG

Apparently I have looooads of tension/knots in my ENTIRE back and up around my traps and neck. This is probably due to a combination of me bottling my stress there, my horrid posture, and neglecting my upper body when I stretch! I usually only stretch my legs and hips.

I wish you could have seen me squelch and mouth curse words while my face was in that hole-pillow. Then she flimzied my wrists and they cracked in multiple places…she said that was NOT good. She could tell that I regularly spend a lot of time on the computer :) or more like :( .

-She suggested I stretch a do yoga. She also said to pull rolled towels underneath my wrists when typing.

~~~~~~~~
Massage Envy is conveniently located in the same shopping center as Trader Joe’s….hehehehehehe. My friend, who also got a massage, wanted to go!!! I SWEAR! I mostly got produce and kefir. Oh and some surprises I’ll show you later.
One of my assignments for Health, Fitness, and Wellness was to take a yoga or pilates class on campus. I have been meaning to take the Tuesday night Ashtanga Yoga class because it is taught by instructors that teach at a local yoga studio (not students). So I went! I figured I would wake up in the morning totally unable to MOVE so it was now or never.
It was pretty good! I liked it enough that I’ll probably go back again. The lady was very instructional, which I like because I want to know when I’m doing something wrong or how to better my form. I also like learning about yoga in general. Probably the main reason why I like Dave Farmar podcasts. And Caroline was there too!
I hope I didn’t undo my massage though : /
I had my sorority meeting shortly after so I grabbed some fruit to hold me over. I was shaking with hunger at this point! Since lunch, all I had were Annie’s Bunnies samples at WF’s. Oh we stopped there too :) It was right next door!!!
IMG_6505.JPG
Shot of the gym…plus the rock climbing wall that I NEED to try before I graduate.
IMG_6507.JPG
At chapter I had probably twice this amount of melon. Hi Erica!
IMG_6508.JPG
While typing this up, I had 3 of these: Tart Frozen Yogurt drowned in Kefir...lalalalalala!
IMG_6511.JPG
Dairy and fruit for din din. It happens…
I’m impressed if you made it all the way through this hectic/relaxing post! Time to do some work….wahhh!
Awesome deal with the Massage. Wished I had heard about it earlier. There is one right next to my house. Great idea to mix up kefir. I find it hard to drink plain.
I’ve always been too scared to try the Amazing Grass with just water. I had a BAD experience mixing it into my oatmeal once, so I’ve been wary of trying it any way besides with soymilk.
LOVE the idea of using the broc slaw in a sandwich! I might have to bust open my package soon for that very purpose.
See you tomorrow…
Oooh, I love massages! :) They’re just too expensive here compared to Philippine prices so I only have them back home. What a fun assignment you have – yoga! Now, I keep repeating ‘keh-fear’ in my mind… ;)
I love all the stuff your school does- between the bike library and the cancer fundraising. GO DUKE! Thanks for the kefir email! I don’t think I’ve tried Yakult… I will do a taste comparison at some point :D
My GF broke! I need a new one ASAP…it’s my favourite toy :( I got it on eBay for $10 or something so definitely check out online places!
that crunchy sandwich looks delicious! it’s so my kind of sandwich, with tons of veggies and no cheese! :) I wonder how did you manage to toast it and keep all the filling right there? I’m sure I’d lose them in the process.
massage and yoga are both relaxing! so glad you had both! :D
Definitely jealous of the $35 massage! I got one on Monday for my quads, hamstrings, & IT bands (majorly tight due to lots of running). Holy heck! I had to really concentrate on my breathing because she rubbed out some gnarly knots.
I’m not fond of the berry flavor of amazing grass, but the chocolate flavor is awesome in green smoothies. If you want to down it with water, you’re going to have to do it quickly, because it’s not too tasty =P
Wow, that sandwich looks awesome! I love the flavor combos going on in there. I tried that bread too, and it is cheaper than ezekiel and has awesome stats as well.
I really need to try some massage. That is an amazing deal for a wonderful cause!
Your grilled sammie looks perfect! Restaurant-worthy, even :) With or without a George (as he is affectionately known in our house), you make a mean sandwch.
I’ve never tried kefir. But you may have inspired me… at least to go read your post about it!.
Thanks for the info on kefir. I’ve always seen it at WF and TJ’s and my sis swears by it, but I’ve never tried it. Also, one of the yoga instructors at my studio made a no bake fake cheesecake with kefir and it was amazing. Not sure how he did it but that was one of the key ingredients. I’ll let you know if he gives me the recipe.
The last time I had a massage, I told the masseuse that she could use her full force on me (I said that because I didn’t want her to think I was a wimp and because I wanted my money’s worth!). By the time I was done, I thought a mack truck had run me over. But it felt so good!
