Hello Mr. Energy, Where Did Ya Come From!?

Today was a crawl-back-into-bed kinda day. Damp, wet, rainy, cold, and misty. Besides making my hair frizzy, it made me quite lethargic. I had a yogurt+kefir+TJ’s High Fiber cereal concoction for b-fast.

My classes were as gloomy as the day. Meh meh meh.

I kept lunch light because I wasn’t too hungry (hooray for a satiating breakfast) and I wanted to have the option of working out later. Boo for a sensitive stomach. I had a Green Monster with Cantaloupe, Papaya, Kefir, Amazing Grass, and Spinach.

Hello Mr. Marg and Mrs. Rita!

Slice of Flourless Whole Wheat Berry Bread (I’m going to have to come up with a shorthand for this one) w/ almond butter, banana, and pecans.

So listen to this (or read haha)! After class, I picked up my package and then proceeded to stand in the middle of the quad debating if I should a) go to the gym and have a totally crappy workout and quit after 15 min or b) go back to my room and plan on going to Body Tone and then not making it there in the end. So I chose option A and told myself it would be okay if I didn’t have a great workout because I walked over an hour to and from class and was exhausted. Plus the day had been ever so dreary.

I hopped on the elliptical and BOOOM a WHIRLWIND BURST of energy came out of absolutely nowhere. I felt like I was on speed drank 40 cups of coffee. I was ellipticalling so fast on a HIGH resistance…and my little legs just kept pumping and pumping. I felt great. I even felt optimistic about the job search (HAHA why!? how!? Don’t know but that was short lived). I ellipticalled for an intense 60 min. and then felt the sudden urge to RUUUUUN.

So I ran. For the first time in longer than I can remember, running felt good. I ran 2 miles before my shins started to twinch. I had on my retired running shoes which was probably a bad idea in retrospect. Just yesterday running felt gut wrenching and painful. Today, I could have gone for 3 more miles, without a doubt. Every step was a burst of energy. Too bad my body was totally depleted!!!

I can still taste the days when running 6-8 miles a day was just any old workout. I’ve had to stop cold so many times in the past 2 years because of my shins. But sometimes I feel like I’m just not fit enough now shins or no shins. I feel like I’ve lost it and I will never build up my running endurance again. It’s been such a frustrating year completely void of a runner’s high.

Sometimes (like today) you’re body can throw you for a loop when you least expect it! Maybe I set too high of expectations for my body so I get discouraged all too often.

Afterwards, I walked a mile back to my apartment…it took about 30 min!!! All because I was crawling with this HEAVY package and my backpack in my arms and on my shoulder.

This is the hill I have to climb at the very end of the hike!!! I almost cried/ collapsed/ ate my hand.

IMG_6553.JPG

Anywho, so I drank some kefir to get replenish. Yep, still addicted. It took forever for my appetite to reappear. I knew I needed to eat but I wasn’t hungry!! Don’t you hate when that happens? FInally I broke out this panini press that my roommate’s mom got for our apartment!!!! Yay, my sammie’s no longer have to fall apart and crumble to the ground!!! Just as I was wanting a George Foreman, what perfect timing!

IMG_6573.JPG

So I made a panini-wrap w/ an Ezekiel wrap, avocado, onions, goat cheese, smoked salmon (which got cooked in the press…oops) and lettuce.

With a side of broccoli slaw in Soy Ginger Vinaigrette dressing.

I’m already thinkin’ about dessert! I’m sure you can figure out what I want :) Stay tuned for what’s inside the package I received today!!! Have a great night everyone.

I can smell Friday peaking around the corner!!

P.S. I finally told my roomies about my blog.  Up until now they’ve only seen snippets of me photographing my food.  It was a bit awkward when I told them, not sure why!  :)  They thought it was super cool though. Hi roomies!

I know exactly how you feel about the running thing. Running 6-8 miles used to be a great, relatively easy run for me. Now I can’t run at all (I don’t remember that last time I ran more than a mile) without major shin pain :( I just remember that running is not everything, and that there are other exercises I’m still able to do. Still crossing my fingers and hoping that someday my shin pain will be gone!

Haha, yeah I add smoked salmon to my omelet sometimes, and it get cooked a little. Still delicious!

Unexpected workout energy is one of the best feelings there is! It really is amazing what a natural mood lifter/energizer exercise is. If you could bottle it, it’d be the ultimate med!

Yes, today was def a bad hair day kind of day…I sported a ponytail for sure. Glad you got that burst of energy though!
That hill looks awfully familiar…
Do they sell the Ezekiel wraps at TJ’s? Are they cheaper than at WF? We so need to hit up TJ’s together sometime. You seem to be a TJ’s expert:)

I love love love when that happens at the gym. And I feel you on that runners high thing. I used to be a huge huge runner, but was forced to reign it back in a little, and I always wonder if my endurance will ever come back. I think if I just keep pushing through I’ll be all set.

About a week ago I finally found a good deal on a grill pan and bought it. I have been so excited to grill my sandwiches and wraps everyday.

I love when those intense bursts of energy hit you right when you start to work out! It’s so invigorating and totally cool! :)

I’m so sorry hear that you’ve been dealing with shin problems for awhile. It must be so hard for you to refrain from a passion but honestly, you must do what is best for your body. If life allows you to marathon run again someday, then you will pick it back up in no time. It’s like riding a bike. You may be a bit wobbly at first, but it will all come back to you.

Take care sweetheart!

Go Allie, go! Isn’t it amazing what our bodies can do and how they can surprise us when we least expect it? And that’s why we should always nourish them and rest them when we need to. Your smoked salmon wrap looked like a great way to nourish. Nice job on that panini press! Can’t wait to see what was in that package :) Have a nice weekend!
