The sky was as dark as this font color when I woke up this morning for my exam (!!!!). I didn’t feel too sick hip hip hooray! The only thing that is still a little funky is my voice :) Although I kind of like when it’s all nasal-y! I think my short lived sickness was all from the flu shot I got last week. No swine flu! My immune system esteem is still riding high hehe.

I was excited for breakfast (despite how early it was) because I love this French Vanilla Almond Granola from the bulk section at Whole Foods.  I enjoyed it with some kefir, strawberries, and banana slices.

The exam went alright. I had several problems that I wasn’t 100% sure on but other than that I think I did okay. We shall see! Frankly, before my frantic cramming this past weekend I definitely was no where near passing so anything C or above would float my boat.

I had 1/2 a Z-Bar after the exam because my brain was hard at work cranking out those accounting problems!!

IMG_6776.JPG

In Golf, we discussed the the proper swing grip and then we learned chipping techniques. There may have been some scuff marks in the grass :) .

Afterwards I had half of an eggplant-avocado-goat-cheese panini and a salad with broccoli slaw, eggplant, and avocado. I’m running out of ingredients in my fridge! My eats have been a bit repetitive lately. I really wasn’t able to do anything (including grocery shop) while studying for this exam!

I also had some nibbles throughout the afternoon–1/2 an almond butter pecan bar, 1 glass of kefir, 1/2 a Z-Bar, s’more granola.

Look what happened as I was getting ready to head to the gym!!! My motivationwas sky high though...not sure why because I had the most exhausting day! So I trudged through MAAAAAAAAAAASSIVE PUDDLES…. GUSHING PUDDLES.... MASSIVE GUSHING PUDDLES!

IMG_6780.JPG

My feet/shoes/socks were completely soaked. My body was completely soaked. I didn’t let that stop me though!! I was determined to go to this class. I swung back to my apartment got dry shoes and socks to change into.

IMG_6781.JPG

Why was I so adamant about going to the gym? I wanted to go to a Kickboxing class!! I think I really just wanted to take out my exam stress through punches and kicks :) The moves were quite complicated–not as straight forward as the P90X workout I did a couple of weeks ago. It was like trying to hip hop dance–yeeeah. I was pretty awkward but it was nice changing things up and challenging my body! I was still really happy I made the trudge there despite my STEEP learning curve.

Next up? An Ashtanga Yoga class. Back-to-back classes! It was really intense/great. There were two instructors and they really emphasized proper form and understanding the spiritual aspect of yoga. It felt like a real studio class!!

Afterwards, I got this smoothie from Quenchers, the smoothie bar at the gym. I always get this flavor:  ’Decadence’ with soy milk, raspberries and chocolate protein powder. I love the berries and chocolate combo!! No other random junk either.

IMG_6782.JPG

I quickly changed (no time to shower) and I’ve got 2 meetings on the agenda from 8:00-10:30pm <–so late!!!

Qs:

1) Have you ever jumped through hurdles to get to a workout?

2) Have you tried kickboxing? Did you like it? Were you as awkward as I was? :)

3) How do you feel about this article? It talks about how 1 in 4 food labels have been found to be inaccurate (!!!). In my opinion, it just emphasizes the superiority of foods without labels i.e. fruits and vegetables!

LOVE LOVE kickboxing!! One of my friends was SUPER awkward when we used to go like every day in college–but she was a trooper and made it to every class! Even if you’re doing the moves in the most awkward fashion, it’s still an amazing, fun workout. I tried out kickboxing on and off since I was 15, so I usually got the hang of it pretty quickly… But there was DEFINITELY an incident when I tripped over my own feet, falling flat on my face during the grapevine. Twas hilarious.

As for the food labels, I’ve heard this before. This is one of the reasons why I’d never be a steadfast calorie counter… It’s way too hard to be accurate. But, agreed, fresh fruits and veggies don’t lie about their stats haha

Ok longest comment ever, have a great night!

Mmm, that smoothie does sound decadent, but still healthy :)

Yay, I’m so glad you aren’t sick, Allie! Definitely not fun.

1) I’m the kind of person who has to get their workouts in, or I’m not a happy camper (which is sort of OCD, but I’m getting better about it!). I used to wake up at 5am (eek, I can’t believe that was just a couple months ago) to work out and do all kinds of crazy runs outside when I’m traveling.

2) I have been meaning to try kickboxing since freshman year of high school, but sadly have not tried it yet. Sounds like fun if it’s like dancing!

3) Yeah, I think it is impossible to track exactly how many calories you eat anyways. I also believe that a calorie is not a calorie, from experience. But, hopefully those labels aren’t too far off!

That rain today was pretty crazy! All I wanted to do was huddle in my room in my PJs! Kudos on making it through to get to a workout.
That’s my fave Quencher’s creation too!

girl I need you to make me a sandwich someday. I am OBSESSED with kickboxing. I’m heading to a class in about an hour. I love the workout, and I love waking up with sore arms the next day. So rewarding!

I love kickboxing. There are a few good videos on exerciseTV’s Web site that I think are straight forward and not too challenging in terms of moves. But they sure can blast the calories.

That smoothie just looks delicious!
And about the food labels: I heard they can be wrong, but so many? I also think that the values for restaurant meals aren’t always the right ones. But that’s just my idea.

Great that you’re done with the exam:)

that smoothie looks so pretty!!
Love your determination to go to the gym! I would have sit back! :)
kickboxing? yeah~ it’s so fun!!!
I agree with your opinion about the article… as long as you eat more whole food, veggie and fruit.. calorie/vitamin doesn’t matter too much.

Oooh your breakfast looks delicious! That’s one of the biggest benefits of my current marathon training with my husband – we can postpone a run if the weather is too bad, but we can’t miss it if we want to keep building our mileage so we find ways of motivating each other to get out there and run! I’ve also done kickboxing years ago and really enjoyed it!

1) Have you ever jumped through hurdles to get to a workout? Probably, but none come to mind right now. My co-workers admire my determination to always go to the gym after work no.matter.what. Rain, sleet, snow, sniffles. LOL

2) Have you tried kickboxing? Did you like it? Were you as awkward as I was? :) I LOVE LOVE LOVE kickboxing. I wish my gym offered it at a time I could take it (seriously…who can take a 10:30 am kickboxing class and work full time. seriously?! who schedules that?!) And don’t worry. Once you learn all the moves, it gets a lot less awkward. And there really aren’t THAT many variations on moves :)

3) How do you feel about this article? It talks about how 1 in 4 food labels have been found to be inaccurate (!!!). In my opinion, it just emphasizes the superiority of foods without labels i.e. fruits and vegetables! I agree with you — but I still wish they’d crack down on labels. We eat a lot of fresh stuff in my house, but the stuff that does have a label — I want it to be accurate, dangit!

That smoothie has a beautiful colour!

I have ran through puddles similar to your to get to a boot camp class once. Totlaly worth it!!

I agree with your point of view on food requiring labels…better to eat the stuff that doesn’t need one and grows au natural!

All your meals look so delicious today – I am drooling over that smoothie. YUM.

I love kickboxing, and I miss it so much. My favorite instructor quit, and the new one just isn’t the same.

That’s so funny! I actually decided to take a Turbo Kickbox Class the other day on a whim and it was SO funny! It looked like everyone in the class knew exactly what they were doing and I was just flopping around with not a clue! hahaha So glad nobody was there that I knew! lol

that’s the worst-when the sky just opens up and you’re totally unprepared!! kudos for you for keeping on track with your plans though!

I like kickboxing a lot. I actually taught it at our university gym over the summer and its a blast! its a lot of work to come with all the routines sometimes though! (my schedule’s too crammed to fit it in this semester:( ) If you’re going to be taking a lot of aerobics classes i recommend getting special shoes. I was using my running shoes for a long time, and besides adding mileage to them, it wasn’t the best for all the twists and turns! Running sneakers are designed to go straight ahead and the traction isn’t the best if you’re doing a lot of pivots, etc. I bought the Nike “Quick sister” (review here: http://dontwhitesugarcoatit.blogspot.com/2009/04/healthworks-and-new-shoes.html )

and for food labels-if it seems ridiculously low or high, it probably is. i don’t count calories, but if you feel like you’re getting a great calorie “deal” you’re probably being hoodwinked, lol

have a great wednesday!

Oh, kickboxing would be so much fun! The closest thing I’ve done to kickboxing was Billy Blank’s Tae Bo. But I guess that’s really not that similar :) I just remember doing lotsa punching and kicking :)

Those are such pretty strawberries! Good for you for staying motivated and running through the puddles to get to class. I admire your drive! And your goat cheese-eggplant-avocado panini looks pretty hot, too!

I use a very good program, Food And Exercise Diary (WeightLossSoftware.Com). It also has a medical diary. I like it a lot.
