Bake King!!

Highlights from Saturday:

A low-energy run (meh) on the W&OD Trail, a 45-mile bike/run pavement trail that leads to Washington DC. I did the Galloway method run 3 min. and walk 2 min., 7 times. I then came home and hit the condo gym for 20 min. on the elliptical.

I had a thick and goopy recovery smoothie with:

  • frozen spinach
  • frozen berries
  • kefir
  • Greens+ Superfood Powder

I baked up some sweet potato fries:

I could have easily gotten a sweet potato and cut it up but I got these out of convenience incase I wanted them in a jiffy i.e. after my run today!

Served with 3 dipping buttahs:

  • Pumpkin Butter
  • Coconut Butter
  • Almond Butter

(1/2 the sweet potato package)

What a combo!!! I’m lovin’ this TJ’s Pumpkin Butter! I’ve been eyeing pumpkin/apple/pear butters for awhile but never took the plunge until now.

Bake-King!

I baked up some Butternut Squash Pecan Muffins for the fam. I totally forgot to add the carrots that I bought so I’ll probably be making these again this weekend :)

IMG_7193.JPG

This time they came out bigger and fluffier because we used 2 eggs (following the original recipe) instead of the flax + water combo. Still just as moist and delicious!

Check out the cute Fall-colored muffin cups I got from Target!!

Product Reviews

I also finally got a chance to break into these POMx Iced Coffees that Blue graciously sent to me a couple weeks back.

Chocolate, Cafe au Lait and Vanilla

IMG_7121.JPG

The Low Down:

Made with premium, all-natural ingredients, POMx Iced Coffee is a delicious blend of antioxidants, caffeine, and rich coffee.

  • POMx is a potent antioxidant rich extract from POM Wonderful pomegranates
  • Rainforest Alliance Certified shade-grown Arabica coffee beans
  • rBST growth hormone-free milk, organic cane sugar
  • Preservative free

Delivers a “Healthy Buzz’ of Energy

  • Contains a daily doses (650mg) of polyphenol antioxidants from pomegranates (more potent than those found in red wine, green tea, grape and acai extracts).
  • High caffeine-content for extreme energy boost (175mg per bottle)

My Thoughts:

They tasted like the bottled Starbucks Frappaccinos but they were less sweet (yay) and less thick/creamy (yay). These felt lighter in my stomach than Starbucks Frappaccinos–I didn’t have a heavy feeling in my tummy after drinking them. I liked that I didn’t get a coffee-headache from them either. I didn’t feel jittery-buzzed woohoo! This drink delivered more of a pleasant-buzzed feeling. I still prefer the taste of a traditional iced coffee though so in the future I might use this as my cream+sugar to add to iced/hot coffee.

Thanks again, Blue, for the POMx Iced Coffee Care Package!

I also spotted the Spooky S’mores Z-Bar at Whole Foods on Friday. I know people have differing opinions on Z-Bars. I am one of those that like Z-bars. I enjoy the cookie-like texture as a good snack or dessert.

IMG_7163.JPG

I especially liked the teeny marshmallows!! It’s a ‘kid’ bar, but I AM 14.7 years old right? :)

Definitely getting more of these to celebrate Fall and Halloween!!!

Zbars are my jump off. They are my favorite bars when I need a little snack. I haven’t tried the s’mores yet. I need to get on it!

The muffins look fabby fab!

SO many new foods! I loved this post. Are the sweet potatoe spears pre-seasoned or do you add your own flavour? You could blend up the POM iced coffee with some ice and more milk and it could be a homemade frappucino!

I wish I could find a sweet potato in this country to try out those fries. Sadly, I am still looking.

And those POM drinks look wonderful. Just like something I would enjoy… and even better that they aren’t as sugary and heavy on the tummy!

That’s my favorite flavor of z-bars! I had a bunch last year, but totally forgot about that flavor.

Oooh, I’m loving all the “butter sauces” for your fries (haha, that sounds unhealthy). The pumpkin butter stuff at TJ’s is SO good!

I really want to bake those muffins now! Yay for baking :D

Galloway method is the best. Gets your heart rate going and keeps it interesting with the difference paces, no?? :)

Those pre-made sweet potato fries sound delish right now!! I have yet to try them with any nut buttas. Need to get on this ASAP. I’m too ketchup obsessed, apparently.

Well I bought what I thought was a sweet potato a few weeks ago (the sign said it was a sweet potato according to my electronic Japanese dictionary), but I’m pretty sure that sign was WRONG. It was letting off this white milky substance when I cut into it… Hmm…

I chickened out and didn’t use it… I wasn’t sure what I was eating and it freaked me out! I’m crazy, right?

I usually dip my swt potato fries in Dijonnaise, but I’ll have to try your dips of choice. I bet they were awesome. Speaking of awesome…look at your muffins! Holy yum!! Great job on those. Too bad I’m not going to the States until Nov….I’ll miss a chance at those Hallowe’en z-bars! :/
