Playing Hooky

I never skip class. Even if I’m in bad shape, I always manage to get to class some way or another. I can’t stand the feeling of not knowing what went on during class and ‘missing out.’ Well, I skipped 2 out of my 3 classes today. The one that I went to was Golf :)

The exam I have on Friday is really scaring me. I had a substitute in one of my classes today and a guest speaker in the other so I figured my time was better spent studying. Guh, it takes me FOREVER to decide whether or not I should skip when I know other students skip all the time!!

Before golf, I had yet another yogurt bowl. I know it’s time to switch it up but whenever I wake up, this is all that’s on my mind!

IMG_7706.JPG

Today’s mix included TJ’s Euro yogurt, strawberries, bananas, Kashi Puffs, dried cranberries and almond butter.

IMG_7704.JPG

After golf I ellipticalled for 30 min. while debating if I should skip or not. That seriously took all 30 minutes haha. Worry wart alert!!

For late lunch, I had a hugh jass salad with oh so many toppings!

IMG_7716.JPG

Avocado, goat cheese, tomatoes, red onions, cauliflower, garbanzo beans, red peppers, and butternut squash

IMG_7717.JPG

I wrapped up some of the salad w/ Pom Wonderful marinated tempeh leftover from the weekend for some carb action.

IMG_7720.JPG

I had a lot of random eats this afternoon that were hiding from the camera :) Think dried apricots dipped in almond butter, a glass of kefir, bites of butternut squash, and an Aprican Almond Butter Bite.

I also broke into this lovely box from Trader Joe’s!

IMG_7725.JPG

Each 1000 Layer Cracker is wrapped individually. Good for portability. Bad for the environment. My crackers always go stale though, so this box will last quite awhile. Hopefully that offsets the bad for the environment bit.

IMG_7731.JPG

This cracker is uber rich. The layers make the cracker crispy yet fluffy. It reminded me of the nice buttery crackers I had in Europe. Perhaps there weren’t 1000 layers, but there were a lot! See for yourself…

I’ve got a SUPER long sorority ceremony + meeting tonight that I definitely do NOT have time for. Oh well, what can you do? Then I’ve got an EARLY wake up call tomorrow morning. Think 5:15 AM. I’ll explain tomorrow!!!

Quirky Q’s

1) Are you someone that skips class (or skipped when you were in school) with ease or do you dwell on it for way too long?

2) I was browsing around for good pumpkin, carrot, and/or butternut squash recipes (all of which I have in the fridge!) on Google today in the form of bars, breads, muffins, etc. Nothing really jumped out. Anyone have a good recipe for me to try?

3) How long have you been blogging? How long have you been blog-reading?

I always got really anxious when I skipped class–but I usually got over it pretty quickly. I’m good at talking myself down/making up excuses to legitimize skipping :)

Been blogging for about a month and a half (newbie!!)–and been reading since I discovered the magical land of food blogs this summer!

i have the same internal debates when playing hooky! too funny. that salad looks incred, love all the toppings you chose! i cant believe EACH cracker is individually wrapped, that is a little odd. kristi (lighter portions) posted a delicious looking pumpkin bar recipe that i want to try! and i have been blogging for 6 months in a week from today, woah.. time flies. and i have been blog reading a little less than that. yes, i started a blog before i read others! xo

blogging? a year
reading blog? 1.5 year probably!

Good luck with the test Friday! I rarely missed class unless it seemed pointless to go (and attendance didn’t count). Love that salad- great color=great nutrients!! I have a butternut squash bread on my blog and I love making Tina’s vegan pumpkin muffins. I also made some jammin stuffed squash last night.

That salad looks really delicious! Nice, bright vibrant colors and flavors. I’ve never added squash to mine, but I need to try taht!

Right now I’m doing online classes, so it’d be impossible to skip or I’d get a zero for that week! I think if I were doing traditional school I’d prob. skip a few. When I was younger I actually used to skip Sunday school! My mom would drop me off and I’d walk around back and go hang out w/ a friend. Eep!

That’s funny you’re looking for those recipes b/c I actually came here to grab the carrot cake bread pudding recipe from the BSI winner! You should make that and also Pioneer Woman just put up a pumpkin muffin recipe and my cousin (Part of the Whole in my sidebar) just put up pumpkin cookies! I’m making a Fall baking list.

And I’ve blogged for a year, but have been blog reading for about a year and a half!

Sometimes we need to skip class, its totally cool, don’t worry everyone does it! :)

Those crackers look awesome. I just added them to my TJ list! I can’t wait for my restock trip next weekend.

Good luck on the studying love!

Thanks for the sweet comment on my blog! I would love to meet up sometime.. how cool! :)

I used to skip class in college but then freak out that I missed someone. I was a dork! Don’t worry about it.. in a few years it won’t matter.. lol.

I just started blogging about a month ago. I always used to look at health blogs but was intimidated. Finally, I jumped on the bandwagon. I love it! :)

You are a better student than I was, I skipped classes all the time without batting an eyelash. I did not end up doing anything with my bio degree, but I think I turned out okay. You will be fine! We all need mental health days where it is skipping class or work! :)

i almost never skipped class (nerd alert!). i was always afraid i would miss something! and reading someone else’s notes was never as good. i did miss a bunch for med school interviews senior year, though.

blogging for 5 years :) reading blog . . . you know, i always wrote, but really never became that much of a reader until about 2 years ago! kind of funny.

1) I don’t think I’ve ever skipped class ever…hmm, maybe I should? Haha, yeah but I’ve skipped sections before, because I was too tired to wait 4 hours for a section that didn’t help! So I went home :P

2) allrecipes.com has a fabulous pumpkin bread recipe: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Downeast-Maine-Pumpkin-Bread/Detail.aspx

I sub spelt flour in, and feel free to use applesauce in lieu of the oil (or half of it)–it’s a moist bread. I also reduce the sugar and add honey instead (keeps it even more moist!).

3) I’ve been blogging for 4 months, but started reading almost a year ago.

When I was in school, I would rarely skip class, then feel guilty about it. Except for Physics. I hated that class and skipped it a lot. Luckily, my roommate was in the same class and would let me copy her notes. My guilt has now transferred to work – I feel guilty calling in sick, even when I’m really sick.
My blog is over a year old, but I started seriously blogging in March. Still trying to find my niche. I’ve been reading blogs probably for a year and a half.
Sorry, no recipes, but if you come across a good bnut squash one, let us know.

That salad looks soooo good. So bright and colorful!

I miss class more often than I’d like to admit, but I keep up with notes and readings and usually do well.

I’ve been blogging since high school, so about 5 years. I really only got into the blogging community last April (via Tumblr) and then food blogging back in July!

Hahaha! I always skip my Monday and Wednesday history lecture classes because all I do is fall asleep there, so why bother? Oh and last week on Wed, I skipped all three classes. I woke up late and just got too tired. Sigh. I really am becoming the classic college slacker!

Hm. I think I’ve been blogging about…10 months now?

1. I never skipped class in college. I could count on one hand the number of times I did so in 4 years. Crazy, right?

3. I started blogging in August, but had been reading blogs for years in some form or another (Xanga, LJ, etc.)

You gave me the best idea just now. I bought some plain yogurt yesterday and I bet it would taste divine with PB swirled in!

I HATE skipping class. I figure I’m paying enough to go to school, the least I can do is get my lazy class out of bed and go sit for an hour.

I’m totally with you on the repetitive foods. If I love it, I eat it until I’m sick of it.

Those crackers look amazing! Can’t wait to try them!!

As far as pumpkin recipes, they make this ’salad’ here on campus that is spinach leaves, sun-dried tomatoes, sliced/diced/mandolin-ed pumpkin and feta cheese. sooooo yummy. I had it for lunch today :)

I didn’t go to College/Uni. but in highschool, I skipped FAR TOO MANY TIMES… really bad! lol!!

Your eats look fabulous! Especially that salad, yum! :) Hope you enjoyed your game of golf! lol!

Hrm…I think I’ve skipped (legit) like twice. Mentally, well that’s another story. I’m usually the type to sit in class anyways just because. I think it’s an Asian thing.

Pumpkin pie is your friend. I made pumpkin-apple muffins from InnCuisine last week and it turned out well. Martha Stewart’s pumpkin whoopies were pretty good when I tasted some at school the other day…

LOL you sound like me! I worry so much about skipping, it’s ridic. Once last year, I called both my parents to see if they thought it was OK to skip due to the cold weather. All that worrying was for nothing–we got a snow day that day! Sheesh.
I highly recommend pumpkin bulghur chili!
I’ve been reading blogs since about Feb 2008, and I started my own a month later:)

Oh goodness…I was the same way about skipping class! I was so mad when I slept through an alarm once and missed a physiology class! It was so terrible…but never fear, I made it through! The only class I purposely skipped all the time was a business management class where all the test questions came straight from the book and the prof gave a review packet that covered nearly everything on the exams. I spent hours on the review packets, but not much time in class! I got an A+ in that class so I don’t really feel bad about skipping it…

I’ve been blogging for almost a year (although I had a livejournal back in college)…and I’ve been reading blogs for wayyyy too long!

Good luck studying! Try not to stress too much. :)

I never skipped class! Well, never in highschool. Here at the uni, just a few times :D I don’t like that, I’m a nerd so skipping is not for me.
I made great pumpkin muffins with Angela’s recipe from Oh She Glows. Of course, I tweaked it a bit, but they are great.

I too almost never skip classes. I think I slept through a big lecture once (whoops) when I was sick-ish and I recently skipped a dance class to take a nap because I was exhausted from pulling an almost all-nighter. However, this week I am skipping 3 days of class (I’m missing each of my classes once, except one I am missing twice) because I have to be out of town- ahh!!! …Even though I got the ok from all of my professors in advance… so I guess it kind of doesn’t count… haha

I too don’t skip classes too often, I’m the same: worried that might miss big things. Good luck with your studying!

I am definitely one of those students who skips very easily. Except I feel way guilty an make up some excuse for missing the class, very juvenile I know haha. 5:15am – good luck with that hit the sack early tonight! Have you tried the carrot fries yet… they are pretty similar to sweet potato fries, maybe try those. Blog reading for about a 10 months and blogging for just a bit longer.

I’m like you, I don’t take skipping class lightly. I also hate not knowing what I missed, and I learn better when I’m there to hear it from the prof.

I’ve been blogging for only a short time, a couple of weeks, but I have been reading blogs forever!!!

I bet Golf is a fun class :)

I never skipped a single class in high school. In college? I skipped ALL the time! I remember my last semester Spanish class met twice a week…. each week I’d pick which day I was going to skip and which I’d attend! I was so bad :-P

It was so hard for me skip when I was in school. I always felt bad but it was never that bad. I have been blogging for 2 months (yeah newbie!) and I have been reading for a couple of months. I am pretty new to the food blogging world.

I’ve been blogging a little over a year/blog reading for 2!

I haven’t been in school for a long time, but I do occasionally “skip” work. It does take me a while to make a final decision and 9 out of 10 times I end up going in anyways! ;)

Those crackers look marvellous!!!

Butternut squash risotto! I don’t have a specific recipe, I just google it every time I make it :)

I’ve been blogging since June and blog reading since April or May.

I hardly ever skipped class and if I did, I felt so badly about it and contemplated it for hours before doing it. I hate being behind and having to rely on classmates to catch-up. Plus, I hated when those who cut would ask me for my notes. But, you have to do what you have to do and if you need time off to study, then that’s perfectly fine. I was a bit too rigid on myself in college and that certainly was NOT a good thing :) Good luck, Allie! I’m sure you will do fine! BTW, love those strawberries – so purty!

Been reading since last fall and blogging since this past spring!

That salad is GORG by the way. And those 1000 layer crackers sound amazing!

Don’t stress about the skipped class, i’m the same way….but ya gotta realize that soooo many people RARELY go to class and do just fine. We’re just the ones getting our moneys worth, whereas they’re wasting their time! That’s what I tell myself when they’re getting the same test grades. Hahaha, hmm…not a laughing matter ;)
