In the Name of Love

I got up at 5:30 AM out of complete and utter love for my parents. The sky was pitch dark and the air frigid cold while I waddled my way over to give my parents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

To see these fine, young, gentlemen…

Because no other school does it quite like this…

While it’s no Carolina Game, it’s still a Duke Basketball game and we’ll sit closer than the regular ticket holders…in the student section (court side bleachers).

Now, I may not be the biggest fan of our school, but I do love our basketball team. Tickets aren’t just sold to anyone though.  Only because it’s parents’ weekend are they selling tickets. I get in for free but each additional ticket (max 2) is $20–A STEAL!!!

What else?

Picture 20.png

I also got discounted tickets through our school for the NC State Fair that will be going on that same weekend. I’m SO excited for this because despite living here for 3 years, I have yet to attend once!! I love the fair-atmosphere and who better to go with than the ‘rents?

Get ready for a jam-packed weekend, Momma and Poppa!

After peeling off ALL my jacketSSS, I promptly jumped right back into bed for 2 hours!

Before class I had a yogurt bowl and a bananadilla. I totally forgot I bought this ice cream sundae bowl on clearance from Target!

IMG_7750.JPG

The Bananadilla contained bananas (duh), pecans, and almond butter.

IMG_7752.JPG

Nothing too crazy: chia seeds, flax seed, Kashi Puffs, bananas, dried cranberries, TJ’s Euro yogurt and kefir

IMG_7742.JPG

…little did I know I wouldn’t eat for another 7 hours!!!!

Here’s why:

1) Health Fitness and Wellness class was fine. We did some progressive muscle relaxation with a total yogi that was a monk in Thailand at one point in time.

2) Then I had an interview to be a recruitment counselor for sorority rush in January, which went pretty well. I tried to perk up with some coffee, which I drank during #1 hahaha…oops!

3) I sent off Krista’s BSI prize at the Post Office.

4) Checked my email and found out that my second class was CANCELLED–HALLELUJAH!!!!

(#4 turned my whole day upside down!)

5) I checked the time and it had been 4 hours since I ate breakfast…..the MAGIC amount of time I need to digest before running.

IMG_7760.JPG

I ran 4 miles! I only intended on running 3 but once I got there it felt too good to stop! I really hope my shins don’t punish me for this.

I ran 0.5 mph faster than the last time I ran on a treadmill a couple weeks ago. I really think a) running outside and b) using the Galloway method has helped with my endurance. l think the incline variation and wind resistance outside has also helped a lot!

Afterwards I did 20 min. on the Arctrainer, some ab work, 15 minutes of yoga, stretched, and walked the 25 min. back to my apartment…while snacking on THIS guy:

IMG_7774.JPG

….I was on CLOUD 9.…and still am!!!

I think I’m finally back in the running groove again. I was seriously starting to get down in the dumps about it a couple months ago because building my endurance back up was so much harder than I anticipated…especially withy my annoying shinnies!!

…ALLLL because my class got cancelled :)

Best day EVER (those are the endorphins talking).

Dinner

I quickly made a wheat berry salad with:

  • butternut squash
  • dried cranberries
  • chick peas
  • avocado
  • feta cheese
  • onions
  • olive oil

On a bed of lettuce…

…with mini-peppers!

WOOO HOOO for your run. I ice my knees too. If I don’t they tend to ache, which makes for a no-fun run!

I’m so glad you had such a great run and your class was canceled!! I’ve never been to a state fair but many local ones. When I saw “Lauren” won I was like “Ahhh is that me?!” then I read her quote and realized it wasn’t! hahaha ;)

I really need to try the Galloway method. My shins always hurt after I try to run (I usually do around 3 miles) and it is so annoying. Glad you were able to do 4 miles! That wheat berry salad looks really yummy too :)

I was at the state fair last year! We picked a terrible night to go, though. It was rainy SO HARD and I came back soooooooo cold and soaked through my socks. hahaha. The good thing was that the rides had no lines and we practically had the entire fairgrounds to ourselves ;p

here are some pics!

I have tickets to see your team play my Longhorns. I’m pretty dang excited.

Of course, living in Texas, I have been to the state fair. I love it! I have a feeling you will too : )

Oh it’s ON for basketball season! Sarah (ghost world) informs me that the Maryland-Duke rivalry isn’t quite what we think it is…and while I recognize that Duke-UNC is much bigger, we will still fight it out for basketball season!! Woo!!

For the short time that I was in a sorority, I really wanted to be a Rho Gam (what I guess was our equivalent of the “recruitment counselor”…help girls out during rush!), but alas, I didn’t survive long enough in the sorority. :) Good luck to you, however!

So glad you had a good day!
You are such a nice daughter for waiting in the cold for the tix–I went with my parents last year, so I figured once was enough;)
That yogi was pretty effective–I fell asleep fast!
I went to the state fair my freshman year, and it was cool to see all the random fried food and ride a few rides.

Those mini peppers are too stinkin cute! I love college basketball games and I bet that one will be so fun for you and your parents.

I’ve never been to our Texas State Fair but I’ve been to the Arkansas State Fair. I went when I was 7 and saw the headless woman who scared me half to death! But I do not remember the food.

I would give anything for tickets to Bonnarroo Music Festival. I just want to go once!

What a great daughter you are! Your parents are going to have such a fun filled weekend with you! Yay for classes being canceled! That’s awesome your getting back into your running groove and the shins are being a b!tch that much anymore. Good eats, I love how you plate your food so fancy! I’ve never been to a state fair before… since I am Canadian haha but honestly there aren’t many fairs where I live. I would give anything to have season tickets for the Canucks (my hockey team… could I sound like a more stereotypical Canadian right now?).

Yay for the State Fair! What day are you going??? I am going Sunday–what if I see you there! I will be taking my pie to the Pillsbury Pie Bake off. :)

Things you must do when you go to the State Fair:
1) Eat something “fair-ish”–I have eaten everything from deep fried snickers bars to corn on the cob…but my favorite thing is these things called Apple Fries–yum, try them!

2) Go to a fun house and feel like a crazy person. It is so much fun though!

3) Talk to a “carny”–they have some great stories.

YAY! I have missed you!

Yay for great runs!!! I’m so excited for you girlie! You keep running on!

It really makes me laugh that you go to Duke because I went to UConn – and when I was a junior and we won the men’s (ahem, and women’s) national championships we HATED Duke. Even though we beat them. It was such a weird rivalry because we never played you guys outside of post season but I think it started from the 90’s quarter finals game with Christian Laettner made “the shot.” Even though I hated to say it, you all definitely know how to get down with the fan-dom.

Clearly I am a basketball fan – and I have camped out/slept outside for basketball tickets in my day!!

YAY! So glad your back into the running groove–I bet it feels amazing! Ugh I just don’t know why it’s so hard for me to run, it seems like such a high when you run a great distance!

I would give ANYTHING for tickets to the musical HAIR! I’m completely obsessed and dying to go see it in NY!
