My 1600+ classmates and I woke up at the crack of dawn to register for next semester’s classes. All seniors register at the same time so everything is fair and even. Registration involves staring at the clock as it ticks from 6:55 to 6:56 to 6:57 to 6:58 to 6:59….
…and then BAM! 7:00 AM hits, and your finger clicks as fast as possible on the ‘enroll’ button. Then you sit in agony for a good minute before the website spits back whether or not you got into the classes you ‘bookbagged.’
Intensity level=9
Heart Rate=sky high
Anxiety=10
This morning I got into all the classes I wanted except Intermediate Golf
. I wasn’t even fast enough to get on the 16 person wait list that formed by 7:01 AM!!! I blame it on my highly distractible mind because at 6:59 I was still clicking around as if 7:00 was NOT just around the corner. BAH!
After registration, I am always wide awake. Today the early morning wake up call was put to good use because I had to get ready for class.

I had the same waffle mountain as yesterday, but today I used yogurt.

After Golf class, I ran the WaDuke Trail and then made a loop around the athletic fields.
- Total run: 4 miles
- Avg HR=168
I walked 0.12 miles throughout (mostly up the steep hills!). Afterwards, I popped into the gym to do 20 min. of strength training and ab work, just enough time to hit each muscle group once.

To Race of Not to Race…that is the question.
The Eve Carson Memorial for Education 5K Race is on November 21st. I’ve been back and forth all week about whether or not I want to run in this race. Not only do I delay Thanksgiving Break one day, but to be quite honest, I’m not sure I can run it. This will be the first race I will have ever run in. Back when I was running longer distances (6-8 miles), it was just me and the treadmill. For some reason I just didn’t think I could handle running on land. Sounds silly, huh?
I am registering for the race, but I’m still nervous about whether or not I will make it. Duke is subsidizing the cost for me! It doesn’t get any more enticing than that, but it’s my legs that have to carry me to the finish line!
I know, I ran that distance and more twice this week but it still scares me. Eve Carson, the Student Body President of UNC Chapel Hill ~1 1/2 years ago, was shot and killed her senior year of college. It was an unfortunate event that shook the lives of many in NC and beyond. I will run it for her!

For late lunch, I had a salad from the dining hall salad bar that I spruced up:
- tofu
- avocado
- goat cheese
- red peppers
- red onions
- spinach
- eggplant
- TJs Sesame Soy Ginger Dressing

I also had some Sun Dried Tomato Hummus with cucumber slices, sweet potato chunks and grape tomatoes

I got bored with photographing food in mid air (off my front porch), so I used my bed

I ate 1/2 of this Clif Bar before lunch and 1/2 after. Love this flavor!

I also had some snacklings as I worked read blogs and typed this post up.

Not even 2 hours later, I was hungry again! I had TJs Euro Yogurt, Kefir, TJs Tart Frozen Yogurt, and some toppings!!

We have a cook coming to do a demo for the seniors and juniors in our sorority tonight!! I hope there will be samples

And Ms. Endorphin-EndorFIEND (i can’t resist bad punsss)–you can for sure run that 5k!! Just think about how wonderfully hyper and elated and chatty you’ll be after!!
Hi bear!!!!!!!!!
Ughhh we do that too with class registration!! I hate how it always starts at 7am.. so annoying!! But that’s awesome that your school offers classes like golf.. I wish our school did that! What other sports classes do they offer?
And I think you can DEFINITELY run a 5k!! All the endorphins and adrenaline.. think about that!
cranberry orange nut sounds awesome!! I know for sure you can get through that 5k
you’ll do great on the race!! and that bear is so cute wiht the clif bar

Glad you were able to get most of the classes you wanted! All of your eats look fantastic
Maryland did registration by the number of credits you had, so the more you had, the earlier you got to register. I never appreciated my eight million (literally…well, almost) AP credits quite as much as during registration time. So nice! I do remember loving to pick my classes and set my schedule…it was so fun.
I think you’ll love the 5k…races are fun!! Do it!
If (I mean WHEN) we open our bakery, you’re going to be my personal chef also. Everything looks yummy today!
Love your little snack dishes.. SO cute.
I used to hate registering for classes.. it was always so intense.. youd think they would make it easier considering every single student has to do it!
PS. I also want to run that race but I dont think I could.. Im a walker and would prob die after 4 minutes.
Registering for classes at our school is also the most stress inducing activity of the semester! You would think by now they would come up with a a more efficient process!
Allie,
I am so psyched to hear that you are running this race. Frist of all, I KNOW you can not only do this, but you will ROCK it!!! And, I promise, you will fall in love. Racing is what makes running so exhilierating. After your first race, you will be hooked and signing up for the next one every chance you get. Something about the adreniline, the crazy high endorphins, and the excitment of it all is just glorious!
You Go Girl! I am so proud of you!
Like others have said, you can run that, and run it well!!!! I’ve been so bored with my lame pics, I made a smiley face out of my din last night–reminds me of your hummus snack platter
Your yogurt bowl with fun toppings looks really yummy!
You can totally run that 5k – rock it girl!
Ha, I take pictures on my bed all the time!
1) you will have such a great time at the race!! i’d do it with you but i’ll be in philadelphia.
2) i am going to buy kefir on my next shopping trip! you have inspired me . . .
I am also thinking of running the Eve 5k… I have a race the very next day, so I am debating on it as well. You should def. do it!
The TJ tart frozen yogurt w/berries sounds amazing. I need to try that!
I totallyyy remember waking up early to do the same thing!! Oh memories
You watch, that race will be so much fun and you will be SO proud of yourself for doing it! I guarantee you’ll be looking to sign up for another race soon thereafter..
You always have the best food pictures. You can tell how much time you put into the presentation. The chefs I work with in our office would be verryyy impressed with you!
Hey girl!
I have such confidence in you– you got this race, don’t stress!
I’ve never seen a salad from a dining hall look SO delectable, congrats
hehe. ALSO, the cranberry nut clif is phenomenal (especially when microwaved for 25 seconds)
Sweet dreams, gorgeous!
Bec
That is damn annoying, class registration. I hate the process and stress anxiety of it. I’m glad you survived, though. So sorry abt the golf class…maybe someone will drop?
Yeah, I get WAY stressed about registration too–glad it’s over for the LAST time!
I can relate to race anxiety. I haven’t run one since May, and I am feeling nervous about doing one with my marathoner brother in law in December. Eek!
I do the same thing with GH salads–I spruce them up at the apt with “my” kind of dressings:)
That sorority event sounds fab! Do you think I could sneak in and pass as one of your sisters?
Hi Allie!
I’ve been reading your blog for a little while but I think this is my first comment – delurking! Anyway I love reading; you’re super creative and have a great attitude.
I wanted to give you some encouragement to run the race on the 21st. I was a senior at UNC with Eve and although I didn’t know her well, there is no doubt that she was an amazing person who definitely made the world a better place by being in it. I can’t be there to run myself – I don’t live in CH anymore:( – but Eve’s memory is definitely worth it. Have a great night!
what does kefir taste like? i bought a coconut water kefir one day at whole foods and it was disgusting. ew ew ew.
you can do the 5k, i mean you do long runs all the time. go for it!
Good luck with the race!! I know you’ll do great.
That registration sounds like hell. Really stressfull!
I know those registrations, here the same! I always get so nervous too;)
xxx Julia (Taste of Living)
I get my self all sketched out when I have to register for classes. Its my cardio for the day haha. All your eats look super good and delish!
Have no fear! Run that race and rock it out, you will be AMAZING! It is for a good cause, so just enjoy yourself and have a blast.
Your food all looks SO amazing. I love all your snacks, that is definitely my style of eating!
That’s great that you ran aroudn the WA Duke! With no shin pain, right?
You should totally run the race cause you are going to do awesome and be so proud of yourself afterwards
I love your waffle mountain!
Sounds like you got most of the classes you wanted. I can’t imagine the stress level with something like that. Eeek!
I predict you’ll do great in the race and be quite proud when you cross the finish line…
You can NAIL this race, Allie! I have total faith in you!
Registration sounds so intense everytime people talk about it…knowing me, I would freeze up in anxiety and be stuck taking something like “History of Agricultural Poetry” or something. Not that that wouldn’t be fascinating, I’m sure
That registration process sounds intense, but I am SO old that when I studied in Ireland we had to line up outside at 6 am to wait for the doors to open at 7 am to HAND IN PAPER REGISTRATIONS for classes. Imagine that!
awww Allie I think you should be super proud of yourself for embarking on the 5k. I honestly think that you will be just fine running on pavement. You’ll definitely mail the distance, especially since you are definitely in shape!!
I remember back i the days (ok, a year ago) when I’d have to rush to sign up for classes. YES anxiety =10. ughh. Do you think you could talk to the prof who teaches intermediate golf and see if you could get in somehow?
They’re usually super nice if you tell ‘em how much you love the class!!
hahahah, yes, the intensity of the day you pick classes is pretty high up there. At my school, the website you log on to is always full and extremelyyy slow and everyone gets really stressed out and frustrated. I like your waffle mountain again, makes me want to make some yummy waffles!
Aww bummer you didn’t get into the glof class but YAY for all the others!
What a great blog! I am so glad I found it
This salad looks amazing!!! What is this dressing you are using? We don’t have TJ’s up here in Vancouver yet
I usually make my own dressings!
I look forward to reading more great posts
Happy Sunday Doll!
