Oldies But Goodies

Oldie But Goodie #1: Oatmeal. We currently have a monogamous relationship because I have absolutely no food in this apartment. I haven’t got time for grocery shopping so I guess I’ll be eating whatever I can get my hands on getting creative in the kitch! (Nice save, Allie.)

IMG_9628.JPG

Topped with the only toppings I’ve got! Pecans and dried cranberries. Luckily the two of them together is one of my fav combos!

IMG_9629.JPG

I also tried to replicate the Starbucks Pumpkin Pie Syrup by putting some pumpkin butter in my coffee. I mixed it with some cinnamon and agave nectar. T’was alright...just alright. I didn’t have any almond milk in the fridge, and I like to have coffee with at least a splash of milk/cream/half&half.

I’m really hating on my fridge and pantry today :(

IMG_9634.JPG

OBG #2: Playin’ Golf. In Golf class, we FINALLY got to play some holes (we usually practice at the driving range)!! By ’some’, I mean 2 holes. We played 2 holes the entire class period. Why? Because we sucked so much that 2 holes was as far as we got. There’s a first for everything.

OBG #3: Running on the WaDuke Trail. I finally ran again today. After 2 weeks off (due to thigh and knee pain) I was itching to run again. My legs were feeling good while I ran to retrieve my ball on the golf course…like a dog :) :) :) and the weather was fabulous. So I figured ‘what the heck.’

See the photos I took of the WaDuke Trail here. They’re beauties if you missed this post!  You’ll see why it was so tempting to run today.

IMG_9652.JPG

I ran the 5K Loop and then headed to the gym for 20 min. on the elliptical. I ran on the slower side and made sure to walk the BIG hills. Hopefully my legs won’t hate me for running today.

The sun was out but I made the mistake of wearing a short sleeve shirt and spandex shorts. Shi-v-v-v-v-er.

OBG #4: Icing the leggies with frozen veggies :)

IMG_9672.JPG

OBG #5: Not really an oldie, although the last time I ate these summer rolls on campus was a few years ago! (Trying to fit the theme here)

IMG_9653.JPG

The ingredient that you don’t see is “PLUM SAUCE” which apparently was hoison and PEANUT SAUCE!! ALLERGY ALERT!!! My lips got a little itchy but the reaction was fast enough (damn, my body is good at detecting peanuts!!!) that I stopped dipping immediately.

I also had a nanner, all consumed in class.

IMG_9654.JPG

Then I went to the dining hall to pick up some local produce. Yep, you read right. Produce from NC farms sold in my dining hall and at a reasonable rate. Heck yes for spending food points wisely!!

I got a spaghetti squash, acorn squash, and head o’ lettuce.

IMG_9656.JPG

OBG #5: Dining hall salad bar. It’s been awhile since I’ve had one of these.

Toppings:

  • Tofu
  • Sweet potatoes
  • Cucumber
  • Red Peppers
  • Eggplant (uh oh, Oatmeal! Ya better watch out!)

IMG_9659.JPG

And I used this totally GOODIE dressing. YAHHHM!!! It’s even goodie-er that I got it for free with a coupon :)

IMG_9663.JPG

OBG #6: I discovered this tea a couple years ago and it is my absolute favorite tea in the whole wide world. I wish I had had a blog back then so I could have shown you just HOW many boxes I got on clearance back in the day. It seriously tastes like a real cookie.

FABULOUUUUUUUS!!!!

IMG_9664.JPG

I’m bakin’ up an acorn squash to eat before 2 long meetings. I’m officially BACK….to the grind. Oldie but NOT goodie!

You should put some pumpkin butter on top of your oats!! That counts as a topping ;-)

okay…extremely jealous of your produce-selling school. that is fantastic.

How’s the weather up at Duke? It’s freaking freezing down here in GA! The only thing that gets me going in the morning is a hot bowl of oatmeal.

I’m having a giveaway on my blog so make sure you leave a comment!

Holy smokes your school is horrible at labeling peanut stuff! That’s so dangerous! This is the 2nd time that’s happened to you!

The salad looks so delicious and I’ve never had that tea before! Yay for clearance and coupons! :)

My favorite is the Nutcracker Sweet Celestial Holiday Tea. That’s great about Duke selling produce!

Last year my mother-in-law introduced me to the candy cane lane tea and it is so good! I just discovered an unopened box I saved from last year in the box of Christmas decorations!! I will be trying that sugar cookie tea!

Those spring rolls look freaking awesome. I had NO SUCH choice when I was in college!! Lucky gal! It was a perfect day for a run, too!! Glad you enjoyed :)

Wow that salad looks DELICIOUS, as do the spring rolls! When I was in college I was known for bringing a container of oatmeal with me in my car when I’d visit people – I didn’t want to eat all their food, it always stays good and you can make it anywhere!

I am dying to try that tea and have been for years!

Ugh, sorry about that mislabeling! And to think, someone could actually be killed by that… :( I’m glad you’re okay! I love how you ice with frozen veggies! Haha, that’s TOTALLY food blogger-like ;)

I’m still jealous of the fresh, local produce. :]

OK, I seriously have to try this sugar cookie tea! It sounds so comforting!

SO jealous of that tea. I love Celestial Seasonings, but they don’t sell it anywhere near me in Japan. Totally sad!

Oooh no to the plum sauce! I loooove plum sauce–but never knew it was a hoison/peanut sauce combo. I secretly suspect I’m a little allergic to hoison sauce because my throat gets scratchy whenever I put it in my pho… but I love it too much to bother to confirm that theory haha

I am with you on the sugar cookie sleigh ride LOVE.

I want to try holiday tea SO BADLY! Alas, I have yet to find it :-(

I thought you were Vietnamese!

The pictures are amazing and I need to restock my tea pronto. I am running out!

Do you brew 2 tea bags in one cup? because that’s what I do, I’m just afraid my tea will get weaker if I put one. I haven’t tested it out yet and hopefully that will keep me from running out fast.

Ow- envy of the garmin! Want one ;) Squash? Sold in your dinning commons? That is AWESOME! I could eat squash for dinner every night- so so good. I hope you win the giveaway too :)

So jealous you can buy produce in your dining commons – good produce too!

Good catch on the plum sauce – I never knew it had peanuts in it!

I’ve never had pumpkin butter, does that make me a bad person? ;) haha.

Sugar cookie tea … I love it! That’s a great thing about this time of year :)

I found the peppermint tea at the store, but not that tea yet! I think I must go back and check it out :)

Love the oldies but goodies, especially music!!

25 Maria December 2, 2009 at 12:26 am

I’ve been dying to try that tea! I never see it around anywhere for some reason. Must look harder :)

Seeeriously, Duke, why do you have such good food? I’m so jealous of the squash, salad bar, and summer roll (sorry to hear about the peanuts though!).

Gotta get myself to Whole Foods for that dressing as well!

I love that I am always able to count on a new LiveLaughEat post every night – you’re so consistent. Thanks for that! I wish I was able to run the WaDuke trail with you – so pretty : )

Awh, it’s okay! I wish you didn’t have a peanut allergy, too, because peanut butter is just so amazing! But, at least you can chow down on almonds. :)

Those spring rolls look amazing…I am J-E-A-L-O-U-S. We have nothing like that at the dining hall in the college where I work!

37 Whitney @ Lettuce Love December 2, 2009 at 10:46 am

Wow that dinning hall salad looked better than anything I every ate in school. And buying local produce with meal points, now I am jealous. My college missed the boat on that

Congrats on starting to run again! I love your heart rate monitor, it’s on my Christmas list for this year!

I am so jealous by your dining hall there, ours is the WORST and there is no way we could ever by fresh produce or make such a nice salad.

Not gonna lie, my fridge is so empty right now too… Sometimes I find it hard to get up the motivation and just go and spend money at the grocery store!!

Of all the seasonal teas, that is one I can not find. The gingerbread one is pretty good, though!

Great eats today (except the peanuts!). Lots of great veggies and the oats look terrific.

Monogamous relationship with oatmeal? I could get into that:)
I really like those vegan summer rolls too, but they never really fill me up.
I finally went to a normal grocery store over break and found those seasonal teas…I bought all 3 flavors. I am so excited!!

If I could marry oatmeal, I would! Oatmeal is the best! I love how you college students get your produce from your dining hall – so smart! Why didn’t I ever think of that?! I keep seeing those Celestial Teas everywhere! But I told myself (and Angela – http://angelalovesfood.blogspot.com/) that I couldn’t buy anymore until I drank at least half of my hummungo stash. So, I’m drinking some oolong tea right now with lemon. One bag down and about 1,258 more to go! HA!
