In high school, I got about 2-5 hours of sleep per night because I participated in a plethora of extracurricular activities and completed all my school work (I’m a slow one!!). The use of AIM certainly didn’t help either. I would head to bed between 1AM and 4AM and then pop back up at 6AM to get ready for school.
How I sustained this I have absolutely no stinkin’ clue. How I managed to speak coherently and make decisions is beyond me. Well, my high school self would have been so embarrassed by me today.

I got 5 hours of sleep last night (final paper writing duties) and I have been a total zombie. 5 hours was a dream come true back in the day! My eye lids are drooping as I type this and I have the attention span of an ant. I’m sucha sleep wimp now!
Since eating healthier and especially since exercising regularly, I have made it a priority to get 7-8+ hours of sleep per night. Not only am I less witchy with a B, I actually work more efficiently (that is if I’m not distracted by twitter and blog reading). I refuse to go on less than 6 hours of sleep unless I have something important to go to or a paper deadline/exam.
How much sleep do YOU get per night? Enough, I hope!

I was going to repeat yesterday’s bfast but I figured I should keep things interesting so oatmeal and I don’t get bored with each other (if ya know what I mean wink wink).

I made some choco-oats w/ banana slices and walnuts.

I used the rolled oats that I got from the WFs bulk aisle and it was especially thick and sturdy for some reason. It made for a flaky oatmeal texture. It was a nice change of pace, I suppose.

I ellipticalled for another whopping 60 min. today. It passed by in a blink of an eye, mostly because I was reading Health Magazine. Also, Tiger made the news on all three of the TVs in front of me so I was making out the story through headlines and images.
Afterwards I got a 2% Chobani Pineapple that I found on campus! I’ve been wanting to try this flavor ever since they came out with it.

I added the recent combo of choice: banana slices and walnuts. They’re the new pecans and cranberries

I adore the 2% yogurt. Seriously 30 calories and 2.5g of fat extra for creamy, luscious, thick 2% yogurt is so worth it (0% plain vs. 2% plain). If you haven’t tried low-fat yogurt I encourage you to give it a shot.
After a couple bites of carrot cake I headed over to the freshman campus to table for my recruitment counselor duties. I decided ahead of time I would stay and study at the library there because there are less distractions since I don’t know anyone! And by study I mean, catch up on 8239843 blogs!!
I packed dinner to eat in the library. Totally legal at our school (thank goodness). A smoked salmon wrap that I got on campus earlier today and some festive Christmas colored vegggggies.

Our dining hall hasn’t had tofu at the salad bar lately and I need my p-p-protein!! So salmon it was.

And a California King size bed of lettuce….that I could totally SLEEP in right now
I couldn’t help but tie it back in to the beginning of the post

I swear veggies are protecting me from my roomie’s swine flu. KNOCK ON WOOD!! (Just knocked the wooden table in the middle of the silent library haha totally necessary).
Okay loves, off to go study and read blogs. I have so much work cut out for me. Finals galore!!

OMG – 2-5 hours of sleep a night in High school?!?
I try to get 6-8 hours of sleep now – I tend to at least hit 6-7 – 8 is a good night.
Stay healthy (and away from your rooommate). Good luck with your finals!
Awww poor Allie!!! Please get lots of sleep tonight!!! I’ve found that the older I get, the more sleep I need!! When I was doing really well about waking up early to exercise (between 5-5:30am), I’d be asleep by 9pm. Now I don’t leave my house until 7:55….so I’ve been waking up later and later!! Last night I only got 7hrs of sleep and I’m really feeling it now.
I get 8+ hours of good sleep every night, usually. I’m a total grandma– in bed by 10, up by 7. But yeah, when I was in college, I used to stay up (doing who knows what…a whole lotta nothing!) until 4 or 5 am, and then wake up for class at 8. Then I would come home from my classes at 1 or 2, and take a lonnnnnng nap. Talk about dysfunctional sleep!
Hope you get good sleep tonight! Just remember– it’s almost time for Christmas break
i LOVE pineapple chobani!!!
sleep girl!! i bet you are exhausted!
Omg, I’m the same way. If I don’t get my sleep – watch out! Those oats look pretty scrumptious.
I honestly don’t know how you do it. You amaze me when you say that you are off to a sorority meeting at 10pm. Sheesh, I am already wayyy in dreamland by then, lol. Wow, times do change once you are out of college.
Hope you get some good rest tonight babe.
You’re so cute! I need my 8 hours or else I’m done for– and I am NOT a pretty sight, haha.
choc oats? count me in, please!
love ya, bec xo
Ahh I can’t even imagine your high school sleeping schedule!! I think it was junior year that I fell asleep literally every day in one class or another. Haha brings back good memories…
Your oatmeal creation looks yummy!
Haha, Allie, I am JUST like you … I got hardly any sleep in high school too and now I CANNOT live on 5 hours of sleep either! I got 4 1/2 the other night and I was so crabby … my poor husband!
I love how you arrange all your food so nicely on the plate.
I usually get about 7hrs a night. Anything less for more than a few night’s in a row and I get sick. Boo!
I don’t get enough sleep. No way… Weekdays is 3-5, weekends 6-8. My body clock is just so messed up now. :/ I take “power naps” though (1.5-2 hours)… or else I WOULD be a zombie 24/7.
With things the way they are, I doubt you and oatmeal will be breaking up anytime soon. Am I right?
I still haven’t tried pineapple Chobani…
Good luck studying!
What a cute picture, that is a big hunk of bread. I got maybe 2 hours of sleep last night
stupid me decided to have the starbucks that you crave last night! boo
I can’t believe they don’t have her quarantined from you!!
I usually get 7ish hours of sleep a night otherwise I can’t really function. It’s funny b/c I used to be like you too – just tiny spurts of sleep whenever I got myself to bed and popped right back up (well, dragged, I’ve never been a morning person) and managed just fine. Now I need a nap if I get less than 6.
Your bowl of oatmeal look so yummy.
I get at least 7 hours of sleep during week nights. I guess it’s not enough cause this week I’m so tired, I sleep in the bus morning and after work, and after lunch I often sleep 20-30 minutes. And on weekends, I try to get at least 8 hours of sleep.
I definitely need my sleep. I used to be able to run on 4 hours, but as I get older, I need more. Plus it helps to eliminate dark circles! Love your choco oats and the christmas peppers!
I MUST have 8 hours of sleep a night. I’ve never been one who can function well on just a few hours. I’m completely useless and such a b-i-t-c-h.
Need the sleep. I think getting enough sleep is a super important aspect of a healthy lifestyle!
Good luck on Finals. I only have 3 all next Thurs! UUUUGH! And just last year I was sleeping only a few hours a night and surviving and now if I get under 9 I sleep all day! WTH It’s a bitch getting old
Oh wait I’m 19! LOL I think it’s because I don’t do caffeine anymore, but as I hit my senior year that may change.
Stay healthy! And you are so lucky to be getting a good amount of sleep nowadays. I am lacking in that area.
I can’t be fully rested and ready to go without at least 8 or 9 hours and I am getting about 6 or less. Pooey.
I used to only get about 5 or 6 hours in high school (I am a bad study-er and even worse crammer!). In college, I got about 4 a night – insane! Now, I can function OK with 5 hours, but it’s not good and I definitely can’t do it for 2 nights in a row. How are you even blogging right now? I would be fast asleep on that bed of lettuce! And, you even worked out? NUTS! Those choco-oats with the walnuts and banana looked too good to be true! I want a bowl NOW! OK, go to bed!
I know how you feel.If I get less then 6 hours, I’m a zombie.Even 6 hours, if they happen few days in a row. Uni just tires me out, and sleeping too little is making me not able to function properly
Soooo with you on the yogurt! I randomly had Stonyfield Low Fat strawberry instead of Fat free the other day–and it tasted like custard compared to FF yogurt. I usually eat FF greek yogurt because they rarely have the 2 percent Fage at my grocery store–but when it’s there, I stock up. SOOO much better!
girly you need more sleep!!! i definatlt srtive for 7-8 hours.. otherwise, im a complete zombie. bleh
if i ate dairy yogurt, i would order chobani.. (we dont have it in canada!)
but i do like thicker soygurts
your oats sound (and look) yummay!! apples + walnuts = a good pair too!!
Aww, Allie…I LOVED this post – you’re so clever! You remind me a lot of one of my good friends – she never slept during our high school years.
Question: How do you make choco-oatmeal?
Statment: Bananas + Walnuts = 1 great combo!
Get some zzz’s, girlie!
Ohhh yes I think I used to live on 5-6 hours of sleep in high school and I totally rocked it. I can’t do that anymore!! But I was sooooo busy in high school that I just did it! I think now if I had that much stuff to do, I could pull it off, but I can’t willingly get five hours of sleep. I usually get around 7-8. I could get like 10 every day if I wanted…but I like to feel a little productive!!
Good luck with finals! Almost there.
can i please discuss the cute polka dot bowl in the 1st pic?
i want one, NOW!
Plus maybe the extra fat in the yogurt keeps you full longer and might balance out in the end!
I don’t see how ANYONE runs on less than 6 hours of sleep. I’d be a zombie, too!
sleep is sooo important but i often neglect it haha, i like to get at least 7! that wrap looks amaaaziinggg
Sleeping is important, I often try to get 8 hours at least and I like it!;)
Your eats look so jummy, I didn’t exected something else!
xxx Julia (Taste of Living)
wow, i’m the exact opposite of you!! highschool=at least 8 hrs sometimes 10, thanks to my mother always insisting. in college, 6 hours=golden. i got a lot to do!!
You have the prettiest pictures. The table you post for your breakfast looks like a sand-rock. Your oatmeal dishes look wonderful. Have a restful weekend. I hope you get to sleep
I was the exact same way in high school. I used to get 5 or 6 hours of sleep. Now that I am old and wise (at 23!), I know better. I can barely function if I get less than 7. My goal is always 7 to 8 hours a night.
i cannot function with less tan 5 hours, I just cant! I get at least 7 hours each night if not 8 (or more!) even when I have my 415 wake up call for work at 5am, I am in bed by 855 or 9. I was the same way in HS, some of my friends were night owls and I just couldnt do it!
that may be the most beautiful bowl of oats I have seen in a LONG time!
Those walnuts in your breakfast are making my mouth water–I can’t get enough of them! Ugh the last 2 nights I have gotten about 5 hours and I’ve been SO tired…I seriously don’t know how we used to do it! lol
I get 6 hours of sleep sometimes and I feel like a zombie. Im an 8-9 hr kinda gal now!
Oh those oats and that wrap both look amazing! I try and it 8 hours a night!
I’m with ya girl!! I try to get about 7-8 hours of sleep a night but I usually get around 6 instead!
Just wanna say–loooooove the looks of that “carrot cake”!
I’m still dying to try the pineapple-flavored chobani. I’m sure i’ll love it!
Okay, so i TOTALLY thought you meant that your yogurt concoction was carrot cake-esque!! The pineapple/creamy yogurt/walnuts combo could totally work!! hahahahha, my bad! Loving the sounds of actual carrot cake andd the yog version
