Big Beautiful Bowls

I’m sure you all know by now, just how amazing kefir is the extent of my love for kefir. Well, besides drinking kefir straight out of the bottle, adding it to smoothies, and combined with frozen yogurt, I absolutely love eating it with Greek yogurt.

I had this Big Beautiful Bowl post-workout (post-basketball watching) last night and despite being rather hungry, I stopped to snap some photos just for YOU.

Follow along.

1) Get out a BIG bowl and fill it up with Greek yogurt. I used about 3/4 cup of Fage 0%.

IMG_0149.JPG

2) Pour in an equal amount of kefir. You can certainly add more if you want :)

IMG_0152.JPG

3) Top it w/ cereal, fruit, dried fruit, nuts!

I used:

  • Kashi Puffs
  • Banana
  • Dried Cranberries
  • Pomegranate Arils
  • Pecans

IMG_0154.JPG

4) Enjoy!! And wish you had put in twice as much as you did :)

IMG_0160.JPG

*Note: The kefir does NOT dilute the Greek yogurt if you don’t stir it up. Instead, you get a spoonful of thick Greek yogurt coated in kefir and toppings.

*Note #2: I’m a lunatic.

IMG_0161.JPG

I usually add in chia seeds and ground flax after the photo shoot because they cover all the good-looking toppings.

IMG_0165.JPG

5) Use a spatula to get every last drop…or should I say to get every last drop that your tongue can’t reach :)

This morning I broke out a scale-tipping apple. 426 grams!!  Would this apple be too heavy for The Biggest Loser?!

I normally wouldn’t weigh my fruit but I wanted to show you GIFT #3! This one wasn’t entirely free. It was about 60% off though. I’ve wanted a food scale for years for baking purposes and I finally got one!

IMG_0186.JPG

I chopped the massive Fuji, mixed in some cinnamon, and microwaved it for 3 min. to kill whatever it is I’m allergic to!! It worked!!

IMG_0167.JPG

I made an apple wreath in my Big Beautiful Bowl.

See the resemblance?

This breakfast made me SO full.

I’m off to Target to find a FOAM ROLLER. My IT band is insanely tight and I think it’s one of the many factors affecting my running. Of the few times I’ve rolled out my IT band, I was in so. much. pain. I even teared up a couple times and tossed out some curse words. Yes, I’m going to go get something to inflict pain on myself.

Does anyone use a foam roller? Have you found it to be helpful for managing your injuries?

I have two foam rollers. A small one for my legs and a longer one for my back. I use them daily. I don’t know how I got by without them. Once you roll away the initial tightness, you won’t be in so much pain when you use it. Good luck!

Keifer is on my my grocery list for when I return from the holidays.

I also use a foam roller – that thing is magic after a run. I don’t get nearly as sore. Also my legs seem to get a lot less “jumpy” after a run. It does hurt a lot though!

Kefir! I saw that cranberry brulee kefir a couple days ago, but I was hesitant to buy it. ahhhh, I don’t know why. Anyway I love love your eats, it looks delicious.

I wasn’t sure if it take two people to foam roll one another or if I can do it myself. I got a free training session tomrrow and I’ll ask the trainer to foam roll me up! my legs need it.

Hope you find it at Target. Tell us how it goes :)

I’ve had issues in the past with my IT band and foam rolling definitely saved it!!! Usually i do 5-10 min warming up on a stationary bike, then roll out each IT band, do my workout, then foam roll again. Works WONDERS and a few days ago I neglected to do it and definitely saw/felt a difference. Foam rolling is amazing. Enough said. :) Love your blog! (first time commenter!)

I have such a LOVE/HATE relationsship with the foam roller, I sometimes tear as well, it is just so painful but such a goodpain that I keep coming back for more! that apple is beautifully massive! I find it so awesome that you can take a simple fruit like an apple and make it into this filling, beautiful breakfast creation with oats and eggwhites! :) looks perfect

the kefir/yog combo sounds great too!

You should weigh the apple after you cut out the core. It will be more accurate. I’m a slave to the scale so I should know. Haha.

Your nuked apple has inspired me to make some “baked cinnamon apples” for dessert tonight. And by “baked” I mean nuked :)

I need to try this Kefir with yogurt because I really like the Kefir but my one complaint was that it wasn’t thick enough to eat with a spoon but too thick to drink (especially with granola). This seems like the perfect solution! :)

I LOVE my foam roller. Best 20 bucks I ever spent. Good luck with your IT band. The foam roller should definitely help though.

Have a good night sweets.

All your eats just made me hungry! That apple looks delicious!

My boot camp instructor SWEARS by foam rollers. They’re a bit uncomfortable to use if you’re doing it right, but they do work really well…

I don’t use a foam roller, but I do use a little massage roller to roll out my legs after longer runs. I find it has a great effect on how sore my legs are the next day and I can tell if I skipped out and didn’t roll out my legs. It is so helpful! Hopefully your IT band will feel better soon!

Bakery scale…woohoo!!

I used a foam roller when my IT band hurt. It was sooooooooooo painful! Words cannot describe. Oh my goodness. I’m not sure whether it was the foam roller or stretching or rest that ultimately helped me, but you never know!

Those bowls look so good! Making me hungry (just after my breakfast, ha ha)!

And nice food scale, be sure to only use it for baking and stuff. Life is too short to measure all the food you’re eating:)

I finally found the time to read about kefir and now I’m anxious to try it! I would never think of combining it with yogurt but now I will have to do that too…

I’ve never tried foam rolling before though- I hope it helps you out!

“microwaved it for 3 min. to kill whatever it is I’m allergic to”

It’s enzymes! I took a nutrition and public health class and the professor talked about this. Apparently a lot of people have your problem with apples. It’s technically not an allergy, because allergies are the immune response to a protein- your body reacts to the enzymes, and the microwaving denatures them. You are self medicating! Nicely diagnosed!
