Holigoals Midterm Update

It’s Christmas Eve and I’m going to spare you all my breakfast and lunch today to update you (mostly ME) on the status of the holigoals I made when I got back from school for winter break. I’ll take plenty of photos of tonight’s dinner to make up for it, promise.

It’s been almost 2 weeks since I made my goals for the holidays and I’m afraid if I don’t at least look back on them, I’ll forget I even made them in the first place (which was the case for one of them already!). So anyone out there reading blogs on Christmas Eve. Here’s the update:

Allie’s 10 Holigoals (midterm update):

1. Actively search for a job, and apply to at least TWO. Nope. Didn’t happen. I’m more confused than ever regarding what I want to do. I’ve asked the Sunflower Vegetarian Restaurant and Trader Joe’s for jobs (on my blog, not in real life). But truthfully, I have no direction whatsoever. My career ideas used to change every week, now they are changing every day, every hour. Plus, no one is reading job applications right now since it’s the holidays…..so I tell myself.

2. Fix up my blog. Baby steps. Baby steps. Yes, I changed the layout of my blog completely but that wasn’t one of my original goals. I have been wanting to fix up my About Allie page for months now as well as other updates.

3. Workout at least 5 days a week. I’ve been pretty good about working out this holiday break. I’ve gotten a good routine going where I wake up and eat breakfast and then workout late afternoon/early night before dinner. I tried working out first thing after waking up but I found that I had low energy and I was super tired. Plus, I wanted to get in some blog reading while sipping coffee and munching :)

4. Strength train 2x per week. I’m proud to say that I’ve strength trained 3 times since I’ve gotten home 1.5 weeks ago. I’m on target!! I’m going to strength train today too. Go ME!

5. Read a book! One of the books I will be reading in one of my classes next semester is Omnivores Dilemma. How cool is this class going to be!? So I figured, I could get a head start by reading this book over break and hopefully reducing a little bit of the stress when work for my other classes pile up. Plus, I’ve wanted to read this book since reading In Defense of Food over the summer. I must admit I’ve only read about 1 chapter so far, but I’m thinking the long drive down to Florida will provide me with a lot of time to read and keep my brain sharp.

6. Go easy on the sugar. FAIL. I’ve eaten a lot of sugar this break in the form of cake, chocolate, cookies, samples, la la la. There is absolutely no guilt though. T’is the season. Why I made this goal, I have no idea. I’m going to bump this down to one of my New Year’s resolutions. The holidays are a time for sugar. Enough said.

7. Do something for someone else [in need of my help]. I’m still working on this one.

8. Try a new vegetable. I TOTALLY forgot about this one. Oops. I’m going to go find me veggie next week!

9. Update my iPod! I’ve been putting this off. We have personal TVs on the exercise machines in my condo so I haven’t used my iPod at all since coming home. I’m going to update it before we drive 16 hours down to Florida that’s for damn sure.

10. Put on real clothes and take a walk outside every single day…so I feel like a real person. YES!! I’ve done this every day!! Okay, maybe just jeans and a sweatshirt but being a girl that wears gym clothes everywhere, putting on a pair of jeans is a big deal. I’m proud to report that my jeans still fit despite my excessive sugar intake.

So there you have it. Half way through break. I think I’ve got a good start but I still have my work cut out for me.

Oh here are some peppermint and almond chocolate pretzel slims I made last night!!

love your goal #10! when I was in US, I was wearing Pjs and gym cloth everyday…. didn’t feel like taking care of myself. Now that I’m in Shanghai and go out everyday, I’ve been wearing real cloth and makeup and feel great!!!! and it’s sooo fun too! :D

You are too too cool girl. You did amazing with your goals. Some of us actually went from into life-dives and are about 10 notches below where we started in 2009!
Not completing or even attempting all the goals only PROVES that you are REAL.
By the way, what are you studying in school? What year are you in?
Have a wonderful Christmas with your family.

Overall, it sounds like you’ve been really good to yourself over this break. Ten goals is A LOT, especially when Christmas break is for resting and taking a break from school. So don’t be too hard on yourself, you’re doing awesome!

And I think I’m going to join you in both the “read a book goal” and “put on real clothes EVERDAY and walk outside”, because I’ve been putting off reading, and somedays I find myself enjoying the laziness a bit too much ;)

Hope you’ve had a great day!

I should adapt some of your goals (mainly the ones about cutting back on sugar and dressing like a real person lol) Merry Christmas :)

Catching up! Those pretzels looks divine…I love the sweet/salty combo. :) That’s so exciting that one of your classes is going to read the Omnivore’s Dilemma…I keep meaning to pick it up at the bookstore, but I always forget.

Ahhhh I hear you on the job search. No clue what I want to do, and I’m convinced no one is looking at applicants now anyway. What to do, what to do…

Eat more cookies, of course!!
