Rezzies

First prezzies, now rezzies. Here’s my 10 for ‘10:

***

1) Reconnect with a friend, acquaintance, teacher, etc. once a week. I am an email-putter-offer. Believe it or not, I have a drafts box with several half-written emails (yeeps)! There are many people I have lost touch with somewhere along the way and it would be nice to reconnect with them. My accounting professor told me if I learned anything from the course, it was to reconnect with someone from my past because ‘you never know what might happen.’ My goal is to email someone once a week because these emails will probably be fairly lengthy as I like to talk/write/yap.

***

2) Leave Duke with no hard feelings. It would be nice not to have such negative associations with my school and not refer to it using the adjectives that I do. I’ll leave it at that. :)

I want to live up my last semester by making a bucket list and crossing it all off. Of course, that involves eating at all the wonderful cafes and restaurants to which I’ve never been. Let me tell you, the Durham, NC area has a lot of scrumptious places to eat!! I’m going to call on my fellow triangle bloggers to help me with this rezzie.

***

3) Smile. I may be happy and cheerful on the blog, but when I walk around school, more often than not, I have a scowl on my face. Chances are I’m stressing out about something but a scowl certainly doesn’t help the situation! Maybe if I start reading blogs on my new phone while I walk around campus, I’ll naturally smile more!

‘We shall never know the good that a simple smile can do’ ~Mother Theresa

***

4) Compliment someone every day–in person. Genuine compliments. It’s always nice to have someone tell you they like your shirt, hair, necklace, etc. I think it would be good to get into the habit of complimenting people out loud. It wouldn’t be forced compliments. I think vocalizing genuinely nice thoughts would put both the other person and even myself in a better mood.

***

5) Floss. I’m not going to give myself an ‘everyday’ requirement because I know I’ll eventually forget and then fall off the wagon due to my all-or-nothing personality. This was one of the things that lowered my RealAge. Although my RealAge was pretty ‘young’ at 14.7 years old, I still need to get into the habit of flossing. If only because I have the hugest sweet tooth in the whole wide world and poor dental genetics!  We can do it, Broc!

***

6) Find a job for post-graduation….or a few months after that :) Let’s not discuss this sensitive topic on such a celebratory day! Moooving on….

***

7) Run a 5K and a 10K. My PR distance wise is 8 miles but I have never run an official race. Can you believe it? Well, I can. My legs are so injury prone! I’m determined to run while treating my legs with tender loving care. I think I can do it this time. I think I can. I think I can. :)

***

8 ) Read the newspaper either online or in print. I want to get into the habit of at least scanning the front page so I have some idea of what’s going on in the world.

***

9) Buy an SLR and learn how to use it. Or just wait until graduation and beg for one. Since starting the blog, I’ve really started to enjoy taking photographs…a lot! Of course, I want to photograph more than just food but we all know what will dominate my memory card.

***

10) Make an effort to wear real clothes. 99% of the time, I wear gym clothes to class since I figure I’m going to workout anyways. Well, it’s made for quite a bummy attitude/outlook. I’m going to try to dress a little nicer this last semester. Maybe we’ll start with dressing nicely one day a week.

***

There are many other things I want to accomplish (blog, food, exercise, school) but these are just ten of them to get me focused and excited for the new year! Let’s make 2010 a wonderful year!

What are YOUR rezzies for 2010?!

Great goals. I especially love the reconnecting with a friend. There’s so many peopel I lost touch with during my ED and would love to reconnect with, just to see how they’re doing and let them know how I’m doing.
I have made some goals myself (which you can read about on my blog)

Great resolutions! I am going to take 1 wine/food/travel related course or event a month. If I don’t work in a dream field yet, I can at least be part of one!
I work in an office where we can wear jeans, which I often do, but I always have so much more energy when I get a little more dressed up. Fun resolution!

I’m with you on wearing nicer clothes + reading the newspaper. Right now my source of what’s going on in the world is E news…and that’s not okay ;)

Ahh, flossing is definitely on my list! I had a dentist appointment Monday, and I’m proud to say I’ve done it every day since! (We’ll see how long that lasts ;-) ) You should e-mail me sometime, I feel like our school stories might be pretty similar.

Great ‘rezzies. We have #3 and #6 in common…and I am about to steal your #8. Haha. I am so clueless about the world news – it’s embarrassing. I need to do something about this. Even if I just read a few headlines online – something! I hope you have a great last semester of college and finish on a positive note : )

I think those are some doable resolutions!

13 Christina (Dinner at Christina's) January 1, 2010 at 7:48 pm

hehe I love your real clothes one! I always have that problem. It’s almost 6pm and I am in PJs! Tip for the floss – get those little floss picks! We have them in the junk drawer in the kitchen so now I’m in the habit of grabbing one after dinner when we sit down to watch a show. Sure it’s not glamorous, but it beats yanking out a foot long stretch of floss and see-sawing back and forth in front of the mirror!

Great goals, Allie! I could definitely work on a few of these as well :-)

Instead of making all my resolutions now, I’m setting up one big challenge per month for myself. That way, I have a month to focus really specifically on one goal, instead of focusing on twenty for a couple of days and then dropping them (which is what I always do!!!).

Great “rezzies” girl, you sound really determined and ready to take on the new year with a lot of positivity! i’m just hoping to graduate as healthy and as happy as I am now, and to figure out my “grown up” life from here on out!

I really like how it’s a mix of fitness, healthy living, mindful activities, and holistic things that will enable you to have a great year. Gold star for you! Plus, watching you try all those triangle cafe/restaurants will be very fun for us.

haha, it’s so hard to imagine you being pissed or scowling about going to school, but I can picture it. You can do it!

My real age is 21. But I am actually 20, but I used to be 22 last year for my real age. So I lost a year, but I am still a year older. boo

Great resolutions! I would love to try to keep in better touch with people from college, etc. I also have a ton of drafts in my inbox, yikes!

So neat that you were a gymnast and musician, too! My music has taken a bit of a backseat since starting my dietetic internship, but I hope I can get back into it soon!

Your posts are so playful and down-to-earth. I get way too deep sometimes. I think its cause I typically write it at night…when the brain and mood are different…by morning I’m like, “i can’t post this…its just silly nonsense”…but by then i don’t wanna write anything else…oh well, its all a form of exploring the many styles of writing!
Great fun in this post , terrific -and i like the quote..great :)

I’m so surprised by how many of the same resolutions we have! I definitely should add flossing to my list. I like the dressing up for class idea too. It’s just so hard getting up and attempting to look cute when you know you’re just going to have to get changed to go to the gym! I also need to go shopping to get clothes that I WANT to put on… But alas, this is where the lack of money issue can get in the way.

Great rezzies, they’re like prezzies for yourself… In the long term at least!
I’m the same with procrastinating responding e-mails. I find the longer you put it off the more awkward it is when you actually do respond though, and it’s such a weight off your shoulders when you do! Definitely a reason to flash those pearly whites… Which will be even shinier due to all that flossing! ;) My mom carries floss around in her purse. Maybe that would help?

Good luck and happy new year!!

Oh girl, please do not put pressure on yourself to run a 10k–i always become super overwhelmed by HOW many bloggers have run races/are running races…but sometimes I gotta realize that not everyone has to do it! Of course, I have total faith in you and know you have the drive to rock it out…but feel no obligations, and maybe focus more on taking care of your legs and just working out as you do! Just a thought :)

Love the goals though. Smiling more + complimenting someone in person will surely lift one’s spirits! I wanna work on that too!! Oh, and what type of jobs are you looking for after college?! GOOD LUCK!! xoxoxo

Rezzies for 2010:
-Going out more, at least twice a month!
-Find a well paid job. Now it’s ok but I think that with my 5 years experience in the world of lubricants I deserve more. Be humble! I do!
-Improve significantly my English speaking. Ok, my other skills related to English are not good enough yet.
-Be lucky and meet someone to share things in a sweet way (is it sounds funny? hehe I don’t know so tell me!)
D’you know what? Lucky sometimes visits a fool but it never sits down with him/her
-Spend more time with my friends or maybe just taking care of them a bit more than I’m doing now. I always be in a hurry.
-I wish we had a great European Athletics Championship in Barcelona. I’m in charge of taking care that all the stuff related with races (hurdles, etc etc) so I have a lot of work in front of me planning all sessions with a group of 40 people give or take.
-I want to learn how to trust people more. It sometimes cause on me overheating in my head. I would appreciate some piece of advise respect that :)
-I should eat in a better way (healthy diet). I need to think really hard about that to figured out how to do it!
-My last desire/aim would be to run under 34 min in 10 Km. Now 34.39 but how I can go running and some other workout at least 5 days a week? It is hard to accomplish right now.

Thanks for inspiring me! :)

ALLIE! Happy New Year! I’ve missed you! I’m so sorry, I’m behind on my blog reading. Your post was hilarious! Prezzies and now rezzies? Cracked me up! But, your goals/rezzies were great. I really liked the ones about reconnecting with someone, giving someone a compliment every day in person and flossing. Actually, I’ve been flossing more for whatever reason, but I still need to make more of an effort. I’m so glad I had the chance to meet you in 2009 and I can’t wait to see what you have in store for us in 2010. I know this is going to be a BIG year for you!

Wear real clothes…yesss! I go from pajamas to running clothes to scrubs about five days per week. The good part is that it stops me from going shopping all the time (”I will NEVER wear this…literally!”), but at the same time I don’t look cute! haha. Maybe we should go on “What Not to Wear”…
