Playing Catch Up

Whew! It’s only been one day and I am already feeling stressed and overwhelmed. How does that happen!? I’m someone that handles stress pretty well…I used to be at least!! At school, I am constantly playing catch up. The checklist is never completely crossed off. There is always work to do, books to read, blogs to comment on and emails to respond to. But such is life…right?

I just want to say thanks for all your support, thanks for reading, and thanks for the sweet haircut comments. You all brighten my day, every day. Like you have no idea.

***

After my first class yesterday, I quickly grabbed some food from the cafe at the library before heading off to my 2 1/2 hour class. Boy am I glad I did because that was one loooong class. We had to introduce ourselves with 1 interesting thing about ourselves and 1 creative talent we possess. I had NOTHING to say so I told the class about my blog. Ahhhh!! SO awkward.

I have two 2 1/2 hour classes this semester (and potentially a third) so I’m going to have to be a smart snacker.

Garbanzo Greek Salad with feta cheese, green peppers, tomatoes, lemon sauce.

IMG_1559.JPG

Fruit cup. I wish I had some Greek yogurt with these pineapple chunks!

IMG_1562.JPG

After class I went to the gym for 60 min. on the elliptical and 10 min. walking while watching the Duke basketball game on TV. I decided it would be better for my mental health to break a sweat than to try and preserve my salon blow-dried hair and be irked all night.

I had a meeting immediately after so I grabbed a Greek Salad on campus to eat AT the meeting.

IMG_1566.JPG

Underneath the mountain of feta cheese was artichoke hearts, black olives, and sundried tomatoes. It was really good! I had a salad at the same eatery Freshmen year and found spoiled lettuce so I never went back again. This salad was supah fresh though! I guess we all deserve a second chance…even salads!

IMG_1568.JPG

A Mini Toblerone. I also had LOTSA peppermint bark and 1/2 an apple after the meeting as well. Chocolate=immediate stress relief.

IMG_1572.JPG

I’m doing a great job eating on-campus food and chipping away at my sky high food points balance. I didn’t use them all up last semester so they rolled over to this semester. Meaning, I have even more food points to spend before graduation!!

***

This morning, my legs were feeling tight so I did a couple down dogs before making breakfast/lunch (yes, I’m still on this awkward sleep schedule).

I wasn’t feeling oatmeal so I just combined whatever I could find in the fridge/freezer/pantry. I had 1/2 an apple (microwaved) + almond milk topped with Pumpkin Coconut Pecan Granola.

IMG_1576.JPG

The warm apples warmed up the milk, which then warmed up the granola a bit. It was like a combination of hot and cold cereal. Mighty tasty!

IMG_1580.JPG

I also had a green Purple Green Tea Monster to wake me up!

  • 1 cup spinach
  • 1 cup frozen mixed berries
  • 1/3 banana
  • 1/2 cup almond milk
  • 1 T green tea powder

I’ve got another busy day with classes and recruitment meetings! So long winter break aka endless internet/blogging time!

School can be so busy and stressful…totally understand! Have a fun day. :) I would’ve chosen the working out over preserving the blow-dry too!

Your school’s food looks really good/healthy. Your GM sounds bomb. I want to get some of the green tea powder. Breathe, Allie, Breathe : )

Yay that you told your class about your blog! I bet everyone was impressed. Now I need to go look at your previous post so I can check out your haircut!

No shame in your amazing blog! :) Way to be bold! Just one thing at a time. I remember how overwhelming it was to see all that you had to get done for each class at the beginning of the semester, and sure enough, it would all get done, and time would go so quickly! Good luck, dear!

I wish I had that fruit cup right now!

I hope all settles down at school sooner rather than later!!

PS…you’re special delivery will be going out on Monday. Hope it brightens you day when you get it! ;)

Wow your campus food looks WAY better than any campus food I’ve seen! For undergrad, the campus food was REALLY bad with not too many healthy options. In grad school, there are more healthy options but I don’t see too many salads or fresh fruit (except apples) interestingly enough!

I’m a never-ending lister too! Half the time when I come home from the grocery store I IMMEDIATELY start a new list within the hour to get next time. My desk has a million little notepads and pieces of paper with to-do lists, errands, tasks, etc. I even make them for J once in awhile and leave them on his desk! haha It’s a disease!

All your foods look so bright and yummy. I’m glad you gave that place a second chance – that salad looks AWESOME!

LOVE that salad! Is that the one from Alpine Atrium? I just had it on Monday, in fact. Anyway, I used to get it at least twice a week during sophomore year…then I got burned out on the Greek goodness.

You sound like me, always having a full to do list. Here’s a quote I say daily that helps me calm down just a bit: “if you don’t have enough time to do everything YOU want to do during the day, then you are a Type A personality”..It’s our personality type that makes us so structured, and sometimes that’s great, but other times, we just need to acknowledge that everything won’t get done in one day :)

I tell some people about blogging and it’s SO awkward, which is weird, because it’s not like I am embarrassed to blog or anything, but talking about blogging with non-bloggers is SO strange!

Going to play at Trader Joe’s tomorrow – hopefully I find some stuff to make ya proud – let me know if you have any recommendations!

It’s okay, dear Allie! It’s the same for every student….it’s barely the first week of class and I’m swamped, too! But just don’t forget to take a deep breath, and try to take things one step at a time…while enjoying it!

Love that you told your whole class about the blog…I wonder if anyone will actively search you up? Guess you can’t badmouth anyone in your class now, tee hee.

Aw, I cuold totally see how you’d be stressed right away after a long break! Hang in there – and remember you don’t have to get every item checked off the to-do list every day. I heard somewhere that to-do lists should never be longer than 7 items, actually :)

Both those salads look amazzzing!

Have a great Friday!

Ahh thats crazy you told the class about your blog!! I appreciate that, it’s nice that you were honest with your class telling them about what you care about- I’m sure it was awkward though, like you said… And both those salads looked SO good- especially the one with the chickpeas!
And that green-tea monster smoothie looks really good- I’ll definitely have to try adding berries next time :)

Homegirl, you are totally awesome and you’ll get through this term, even if your face feels like it’s going to explode sometimes (seemed a little more intense than your head exploding?!). Do what you can, with what you have, and fo’get the rest! Speaking for myself, even if you NEVER commented on my blog again, I would still totally be here for you. And dudette, good for you for sharing the blog! I still get nervous sharing the blog with fam and friends! You are a brave girl :)
