Fooled By The Sun

This morning I was completely fooled by the sun. It was shining so brightly and all I could think about was how amazing it would feel to run underneath it’s beautiful rays. So I head out for my run in a t-shirt, long sleeve t-shirt, and spandex shorts. Oh and don’t forget my shin sleeves, which by the way have been working wonders!!! My shin pain has decreased significantly. In the past, even light runs left my shins throbbing. However, since wear the shin sleeves, they haven’t been hurting much at all. (Knock on wood it stays that way!!)

Anyways, I didn’t wear gloves because the sun looked super warm and I was imagining 60 degree weather, and not 40 (what it actually was). By the end, my whole body was NUMB!!! I could barely turn my iPod off and it took me a good 10 seconds to turn the door knob!!! I’m a total pansy, I know.

I ran/walk 6 miles. Ran 3, walked 3 for a total of 6. Galloway method. I ran to the WaDuke Trail, then ran the 5K loop and then ran back to my apartment.

***

After coming back and thawing out. I made Poppa Bear + Baby Bear bowls.

I was finally cold enough to crave oat bran. I even made it tropical themed so it would keep me that much warmer :)

Oat bran, Bananas, Mango, Coconut.

IMG_1913.JPG

I couldn’t bear not having any kefir+ Greek yogurt so I had a baby bear bowl with strawberries and mango.

IMG_1916.JPG

Plus half a Rosie’s Granola Bar.

IMG_1920.JPG

IMG_1921.JPG

I also had another Rosie’s treat that I grabbed the night before from the dining hall. Since I love the granola bar SO much I thought, ‘why not?’

Coconut Macaroons (there were 3 in the bag)

IMG_1922.JPG

Sugar, eggs and coconut. Pure and simple.

IMG_1929.JPG

They were outta this world! Soft and fluffy on the inside (but still dense), and crispy on the outside.

IMG_1934.JPG

Then I had to dash off to the last night of recruitment. I did sneak back home to make a quick dinner though when my tummy started calling.

Smoked Salmon Salad w/ avocado, cucumbers, tomatoes and peppers.

IMG_1936.JPG

Topped with Olive Oil+ Herb Dressing

IMG_1942.JPG

I also had a Sobe Lifewater (love!!). My favorite flavor is Fuji apple pear but I wanted to try out this crazay thang…..cheri-what!?

IMG_1943.JPG

An hour or so after, I had a Triple Dairy Threat!

1) TJ’s Frozen Yogurt

2) Kefir

3) Greek Yogurt

Topped with Kashi Go Lean cereal, strawberries and orange slices.

IMG_1947.JPG

AND another macaroon and some supah dahhhk chocolate!

running outside is fun and cold…. my hand was freezing yesterday when I went out for a run (third time in my life)…. but I kind of enjoyed it because I dunno… it’s weird.. but running outdoor feels so different than running inside. I might be able to meet up with you for a run next time you come back home! ;)

I hate when I get so cold my hands stop working! I love those Sobe waters too!

I have totally done that before and my hands got so cold I thought they were going to fall off. I sometimes even run with glove indoors on the treadmill depending on how cold the gym is. WHen my hands are cold, my entire body is cold.

Great job on the run! And those macaroons look smashing! Yum! :)

Awww– I used to eat at the Mellow Mushroom in Charleston all the time! Memories!

Those macaroons look delicious– one of my favorite types of cookie, for sure.

It was super sunny but FREEZING here yesterday, too. Pretty to look at but no fun to be outside! Loving the tropical oats…such a good idea to use up the extra coconut I have!

I don’t think I’ve ever had a macaroon! I didn’t know you were part of a sorority, that’s awesome! :-)

I love eating smaller dinners like salads, that way I can always have room for dessert. ;)

haha sorry you got cold! i always overdress for running outdoors in the winter–i’m majorly terrified of getting too cold!

Yay for finishing with recruitment! honestly, i’m so impressed you’ve been able to blog so much, while balancing school and recruitment counselor duties. At our school, recruitment week is so intense, there’s barely time for sleep. Glad I never have to do it again! ;)

I can not do running outside in the cold, it has been all treadmill for me I am so ready for warmer weather to get running back outside!

Those coconut macaroons looks delicious, I have never tried one yet but always see them in the blog world. I have to go to Whole Foods today maybe I will pick some up.

I used to be “hardcore” and run until the temperatures dropped below freezing (glittens are a must!)… and now, I don’t do anything. :( I need spring and summer to come!

That coconut macaroon looks so good. 8O I’ve never had one before; actually, I didn’t even know what a macaroon was until I started reading food blogs!

Wow, I’m impressed that you were able to run (even though you got numb) in that attire! I would have walked out the door realized it was below 60 and walked right back in, took off my running clothes, and say, “Hey, I tried…” hahah… good for you, girl! :)

And I love the triple dairy threat!

I need to buy Kefir ASAP!! You make it look SO good!!! Also, your egg class from your previous post looks awesome. I wish I got to do that in my classes. hahaha

I went on my first run in the cold yesterday! It was 17 degrees when I left luckily I was suited up and ready to go!

I keep seeing Kefir at the grocery store and it makes me think of you. I almost bought some yesterday but decided against it. I might give in at some point :)

Happy Sunday!

Hoping I don’t get fooled by the sun today, too. I think it’s colder out than it seems. Freezing hands = the worst. I have somehow developed shin splints over the past 2 weeks, too. I blame crappy treadmills at my school gym and wearing cute flats all over the hospital (hehhe, so I guess it’s my fault).

Hope you have a great night!

Hi Allie!

I’m enjoying your blog and I’m glad you decided to turn to blogging as an outlet. You’re a great writer and photographer. And I totally can relate to mistaking the sun to mean “warm weather” – when it’s sunny here in NY, even if it’s 40 degrees outside, people drive around in convertibles!

Freezing cold hands are not cool.

I love how much kefir you eat! I still have some in the fridge I need to use. Maybe I’ll pour some my oats in the morning…
