Newbie Gals & Newbie Snax

Boy (or should I say girl), it’s been a long day for this little lady (me). I popped up at 8:30 AM and was unable to fall back asleep. This happens once every 2-3 years. I can always fall back asleep…even after waking up to 12+ snooze alarms! I actually cherish the rare times when I can’t back asleep because I’m up early and can get a head start on my day.

I didn’t photograph breakfast because I was running late (of course, on the day that I wake up early!) and didn’t think I was going to post today. For the record, I had oat bran, yogurt, kefir, mangos, strawberries and coffee. I also packed a snack of sesame honey almonds. Nothin’ you haven’t seen.

Then I met up with my recruitment gals to give out their bids! EVERY GIRL IN OUR GROUP GOT THEIR FIRST CHOICE!!!! (That’s a BIG deal). I like to think it was because I was such a great recruitment counselor :)

They were so happy and I was so happy!!

We finally revealed which sororities we’re in (we had to keep it hidden so that we could give unbiased advice throughout the process). Which means I can FINALLY wear my sorority t-shirts again. Some of these shirts are American Apparel shirts, which I LOVE. I haven’t been allowed to wear them since November!

We got the coolest pledge class EVAH!!!

(this was cake that we ate later)

IMG_1993.JPG

All of us together again. Finally. The girls who studied abroad are back and we’re a full chapter again with 4 pledge classes! Wahoo!

IMG_1959.JPG

Because I know you wanna see my shining face :)

IMG_1964_2.JPG

We celebrated at Mellow Mushroom in Downtown Durham, a delicious pizzeria that I’ve never been to! All the pizzas were hand made and probably some of the best I’ve ever had!!

IMG_1989.JPG

I did it!! I took a DARING photo of my plate. None of my sorority sisters know about my blog besides my roommate and our sorority advisor (Hi Lollie!!!). It would be awkward times 3 trillion if I told them so I felt very very very brave and risky taking this photo :) .

I had a slice of the Mega Veggie pizza and 1/2 of the Gourmet White pizza. Out of this world, I tell ya!!!

Oh and underneath the pizza is a huge plate of lettuce, tomatoes, mushrooms, and cucumbers. I went back for seconds on the salad too…so fresh!

IMG_1990.JPG

Here’s a blurry photo of our partay (to protect their privacy).

IMG_1995.JPG

I went to Target to pick up my prescription and get a $10 gift card for transferring my prescription! Of course I had to put it to good use….

IMG_1997.JPG

Sooooo many dishes and place mats were on clearance!! I decided I was sick of photographing my food on the stove and the cement so I got some place mats to brighten up my place setting. I also got some cute dishes (see the clearance stickers!?).

The Gaiam aluminum bottles were a 2 for 1 pack. $12.99 for TWO! What a steal! I’ve been desperately wanting an aluminum bottle both for my health (BPA free) and the environment. I’ll show you a closer shot of them later.

***

NEWBIE SNAX!

I saw this at Target and the gotta-try-everything in me grabbed them off the shelf and put them in my basket :)

IMG_1999.JPG

I mean, dark chocolate mocha hazelnut!? How could I not give it a whirl??

I ate 1 before hitting up the gym for 30 min. on the elliptical, 30 min. on the quasi elliptical, and 30 min. of full body strength training. I wasn’t sure if I was going to workout tonight but once I got there I just kept goin’. I needed the ‘alone time’ after many hours of socializing…ya know?

Anyways, the bar was sort of small :( It tasted lovely though, especially with the toppings (the bottom was like a chewy granola bar).

IMG_2002.JPG

I wasn’t hungry when I got back so I just whipped together something fast.

IMG_2006.JPG

Sweet potato discs grilled in the panini maker.

IMG_2010.JPG

A microwaved pear (to which I later added Greek yogurt).

IMG_2012.JPG

Sesame Honey Almonds.

IMG_2011.JPG

I didn’t get these freeze dried fruit SNAX from Target. They were from an on campus store. I ate the TROPICAL BLEND but didn’t photograph it, sorry! I’ll snap a photo of the orchard blend when I eat it, I promise.

IMG_2003.JPG

Here’s what was inside.

IMG_2005.JPG

I have a super cool food event tomorrow night!! I can’t wait. I hope I have the courage to take photos in front of 250 of my classmates :) . Until then I have readings up the wazoo and work work work!!

yum that pizza looks SO GOOD! that bar also looks delicious – like this brownie they sell at my campus dining hall that has caramel and chocolate swirl on top with almond slivers. only yours has 500 less calories ;) great job with recruitment!! i’m sure you had a lot to do with the success of all the girls yay

Darling, you look gorgeous. ;) Taking a photo without being awkward * 1 trillion takes skill! I don’t know if I would be able to weave my way through that, haha. I’d probably say something lame like, “I like taking pictures of my food,” since I can’t use the “I just got this camera, so I’m testing it out” excuse anymore. Hah…

I love aluminum bottles, especially ones with pretty patterns. TJ-Maxx is the place for that. :)

Yes! Have courage! I can’t wait to read about it. :)

Hey, Allie!
Congrats on the recrutation!
And on your “braveness” – I mean, taking that picture must have been hard! I only take pics with my phone, so nobody around me knows about my blog. Oopsie :S
But that pizza looked amazing ;)
Oh, and by the way, I love you blog! Just saying.
:)

I think photography of food is a lot more common nowadays! Last year when we had my Grammy’s memorial service a few aunts and other family members made all of the desserts and everybody was taking pics of the pies and cheesecakes and pastries. Also, somebody I semi-stalk their pics on FB had her son’s bday party over the weekend and she kept posting wall pics of the food she was cooking, then in the album itself was a bunch of pics of the spread and her plate! hehe But I’m still proud of you for being brave b/c sometimes I get semi-self conscious if somebody doesn’t know about the blog. I don’t want that whole “did you just take a picture of your PIZZA?” stare. :P

Yay I looove Target’s bright orange clearance stickers. Honestly like the last 10 items I’ve bought at Target (don’t go TOO often) have had those on them. Way to shop wisely! :D I love the square plates and the little orange side dish. Also the placemats are a supercute idea to jazz up the photos!

Okay, I just read your about me, and I cannot tell you how much we have in common! Most noteably, though, ZTA!! Congrats on your new PC, we do ours at the beginning of the fall, but it sounds like you had a successful recruitment! Also, that deep dish veggie pizza looks TDF! :D

Good idea with the sweet potato discs grilled in the panini maker. I will have to try that one day. Good job on being brave and taking that food pic. i know how you feel, and I don’t even have a food blog – i just take pics w/my iphone as a photo journal for my eyes only.

love the “and nothing else” ingredient!
oh and I found this book “will write for food” in the library. you might like it. it’s all about food writers, interviews with them, options for work, examples of good food writing, etc. basically your class in a book. because i’m super jealous of your foodie class!!

I have a little bag of those freeze dried fruities in my pantry (the tropical variety); I better put them to good use! I am thinking maybe as a smoothie topping… :)

What a great soroity pic! I think you are the cutest out of the bunch! So glad you had a good experience at the pizza place. Taking pics of food is never a comfortable affair, but a food bloggers gotta do, what a food bloggers gotta do. ;)

I just saw those Quaker squares…..hmmm, they look good. Any weird ingredients though? Sometimes, those snacks have questionable ingredients so I try to be careful.

Hope you have a perfect day today Allie!

My blog is mostly a secret too! Only my friend Ally knows I do it (she has a food blog too), so I never photograph my lunches unless I do it the night before or in the morning, or my dinners because my dad lives with me. My former roommate is a ZTA @ Iowa, she looooves it. Pizza looks awesome!

31 Karin January 25, 2010 at 11:58 am

First of all, I LOVE Mellow Mushroom and their incredible avocado sandwich. I’m now craving it like crazy.

Secondly, I have a couple of those dishes from Target (super cute) but didn’t get them on clearance :( A little bit jealous.

As for the banana tins, they have them at Crate & Barrel for like $2 a piece? Maybe it came in a set of four for a bit more… Can’t quite remember but TOTALLY worth it.

I should definitely try roasting sweet potatoes in a George Foreman when I don’t have time to roast for 40 minutes.
