Break The Fast

in Breakfast, Dessert, Dinner, Fitness, Snacks

This morning (or yesterday since it’s 2 AM!) I had a 20 min. dance party+ abs sesh in my room upon waking up. I needed to WAKE up my body. It’s hard for me to get my brain juices flowing if my bodily juices aren’t flowing as well. Juices=blood

Unless I work out, I usually try and eat breakfast within 1 hour of waking up, even if my appetite is not fired up. However, this morning I was determined to post before digging into anything. I was hoping I would blog faster if I knew there was FOOD at the end of the tunnel.

How long do you typically go before eating breakfast in the mornings? Do you typically wake up hungry or not hungry at all?

I used to never be hungry in the mornings and would always skip it simply out of convenience. It was one less thing I had to do in the morning. However, I started making breakfast a habit after reading about how important it was to fuel your brain and body. Now, I can barely go 20 min. without my tummy begging for fuel! It’s the most important meal of the day, right? Ya gotta break the fast early in the mornin’.

1/2 a pear. This d’anjou pear was ‘disco’ (I used to say ‘disco’ when I was little….short for disgusting). It was hard, dry and tasteless. I wish I had a pear tree in my backyard so I could eat juicy pears all day long.

So much GREEN in this photo.

  • M&Ms. My roommates have these lying around in a bowl and I keep munching on them. Mehhhh.
  • Sesame Honey Almonds
  • A pinch of cereal

My tummy kept rumbling during class. I blame my awkward eating/class schedule. Since Mon-Thurs I have class from 2:50-4:05, I eat breakfast/lunch between 10 and 12. Even with a snack, by the time 4pm rolls around I am HUNGRY!

I briskly walked home and got right to preparing dinner….

Odds ‘n’ Ends Veggie Stir Fry

I put a buncha leftover/unused odds ‘n’ ends into a pan with TJ’s Gyoza Dipping Sauce:

  • ‘Shrooms
  • Frozen Mixed Veggies (broc, cauli, carrots)
  • Red+Green Peppers
  • Tofu

After dinner I had some more of these guys (same as earlier).

I went to teach my little oboe-lings and then went to the gym to watch the Duke Basketball game vs. FSU. It ended up taking me 40 min. to get to the gym because Duke parking suckles up the wazoo. Frustration fuels physical activity though and I had a rockin’ workout. 60 min. on the elliptical and then more incline walking on the treadmill to continue watching the game.

Afterwards, I had a Caramel Nut Brownie Luna Bar which was weeeeeird. It had a funky aftertaste. I don’t think I’ll ever get it again. Chocolate Peppermint Stick flavor fo-evah.

IMG_2128.JPG

I also had 1/2 an Ezekiel English Muffin w/ almond butter and the other half of the ‘disco’ pear. My tummy does not discriminate when I am hungry post-workout. Anything is good enough when all I need/want is calories for fuel.

IMG_2153.JPG

This was consumed at midnight!!! I don’t like working out so late because I don’t like eating so late but I wanted to watch the basketball game at the gym. I’m pretty sure I’m going to wake up staaahhhhvin.’ At least I’ll be ready to break my fast when I wake up :) .

I eat breakfast within 1-2 hours after I wake up or just before I start to do something productive. I don’t usually get hungry. I used to eat a big breakfast because it’s supposed to be the most important meal of the day, but now I don’t do that anymore… I listen to my body… if I’m not so hungry, I’d have a small breakfast but nutritious. :)

I often wake up kinda peckish, but I workout first thing, so I have a piece of fruit and a sqaure of chocolate, workout, then have a later breakfast, sometimes not til 3hrs after I’ve woken up! Works for me though :)
I have to say, I keep forgetting to read your blog, but I’m actually going to properly bookmark it now, cos everytime I do, I LOVE your posts! Your personality really comes through and your food looks yummy :D
I’ll be commenting a lot more from now on :P
Have a great day! (or evening…it’s the morning in England!)

But anyways, good luck on your mission to live, laugh and eat – you seem to be doing so well and you’re very inspiring :)

I always wake up hungry. Always. :( It’s the worst when it’s the actual hunger that wakes me up! Bahhh. So, I usually eat right after I wake up, because I can’t concentrate on anything else when I’m hungry… obviously ;) Occasionally, if I’m not hungry, I still eat breakfast about an hour or so after waking up, out of habit.

Have a lovely, lovely day, Allie! :)

Looks like another day filled with good food – and yes, I wake up hungry and excited for breakfast :)

I HAVE to have breakfast every morning too. Even on the weekends my body wakes me up no later than 9 with my stomach grumbling for some grub. I do believe it is the most important meal of the day – and by far, my favorite meal of the day. :)

Oh my goodness, you eat your breakfast at 12pm??? LoL, it’s so funny to hear that because I am up at 4am every day so breakfast comes at 6:30am for me. I am sure some nights you probably aren’t even in bed by 4am! Haha, Oh I remember those days. :)

Hope you are enjoying your week darling Allie! Miss you!

I have to eat breakfast first thing when I wake up, no matter what. I’m always starving, even if I have a gigantic dinner!

You don’t like the Chocolate Caramel Brownie? It’s one of my faves lol…I agree, Chocolate Peppermint Stick and White Chocolate Macadamia take the cake, though.

Disco- hahahaha I love it!

I am always hungry when I get up, but I usually wait until I get to work to eat. Breakfast has always been my favorite meal of the day!

I’m with you on that flavor on Luna Bars, not good at all!

Your breakfast and dinner looked so good! In college my roommate constantly had candy and cookies around. Not just in the cabinet but on tables and in dishes, sometimes it just makes you go crazy!

I think it depends when I wake up to see if I am hungry RIGHT away! If I get up really early 6am or earlier, for work, then I don’t have to eat right away but if I wake up 730 or later, then I need that food!! i LOVE your tarjay plates and bowls and things, they have the cutest stuff and most of it always goes on clearence which is when I dart my way over!! never had that luna before, thanks for the lil review…i love the choco peppermint and white chocolate macademia!!

I used to not eat breakfast. Once I started, everything changed. I feel better and I almost always wake up hungry. I eat when I get to my office so that’s about 45 mins after I wake up. That dinner looks awesome!

i love all of your plates/bowls! they are so colorful :) as soon as i get out of bed every morning i eat (no exaggeration…i get out of bed and grab a piece of fruit and start making oatmeal lol) im always hungry when i wake up and i guess now its just automatic to me even if im not that hungry to wake up, grab a piece of fruit, and start on whatever i decide to make immediately lol. im so not a night workout person either i feel like it just makes me more awake! so weird. chocolate peppermint stick luna is the best :) and i also hate it when pears are bad, they are either REALLY good or just REALLY bad…no in between you know? hahaha but i agree all taste goes out the window when you need to “refuel” :) have a great day!

Hahah the first thing I do when I wake up is stumble to the kitchen and make breakfast! For some reason I can never wait more than 10 or 20 minutes after waking up to eat..

And all your meals look absolutely fantastic.. I love how colorful it all is!

With my crazy schedule this semester, I haven’t been able to break my fast as early as I’d like (I’m workin’ on it though). I try to get a piece of fruit in at least (and definitely some cafe!), because my brain needs those carbs!

I love your colorful eats today! They made me cheery!

I was wondering if it would be up last night before I went to bed… I ended up going to bed :P

I love working out while watching games when I’m at home, where my bike is in front of the TV or my gym has personal TVs on cardio machines…

I did not realize the importance of breakfast until after college, I could have been so more alert in my classes. Now I am starving if I don’t eat within an hour of waking up!

I am the same as you, ideally I like to have breakfast around an hour after waking up because it’s what works best for my metabolism. But sometimes with school and everything, schedules can get a litte funky, so I have different times for everything depending on what’s going on. It’s my absolute fave meal though, so I NEVER skip it anymore. :-) P.S. – that veggie stir fry looks YUM!

Unless I pig out right before bed (which occasionally happens) I ALWAYS wake up hungryy! Especially if i have not eaten since dinner, I usually will have atleast a snack before bed though.

I used to not eat much for breakfast but am the same way now, I must even if it is something small and I’m not very hungry.

Your food looks soo good! You’re so lucky you can eat like that while in college…my college’s food is discusting and mostly unhealthy. NOTHING like that at all. (like when they have fish which is rare its the cheap, gross, kind covered in thick oil – its so gross!)

Love the colourful snack plates! And thanks for the heads up on that Luna bar, although I’m betting it hasn’t made its way across the boarder!

I’m usually up for an hour before I eat breakfast. Wake up, shower, dress, face, hair, pack lunchs, EAT! ;)

PS…Hope you package gets there soon. I’m getting worried about it!! :(

Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. I wake up ready to eat 96% of the time; however, it I have plans to exercise (like go on a run with friends), I usually wait to eat afterwards =)

I do wake up hungry! And if I work out in the morning I try and make my workout as intensive as possible, because I need to have a mini breakfast before and another afterward. I usually don’t work out in the morning unless it’s a run, though.

I have never been a big breakfast eater!! It always hurts my stomach to eat, I usually wait hours or just eat lunch. Even when I was little I would skip breakfast and my mom would pack a little something in my book bag that I’d eat on the bus later. If I do eat it’s usually something reaaaally light.

Your salad looks so pretty!

I usually eat breakfast within an hour or two of waking up. Honestly, I try to hold on as long as possible. I don’t know if that’s bad, but take this morning: I woke up at 6:30am and was pretty hungry by 7:00am but I waited until about 7:30 to start making breakfast (finished by 8:00am) because I knew I had class at 10:00am and wanted to go to the gym right after. For some reason that extra half hour ish held off my hunger through class and the work out and I had lunch when I got back from the gym.

LOVELY SALAD :)

Haha I love the “disco”-too cute. Some days I wake up hungry, some days I wake up and am not hungry at all, and occasionally I’ll wake up early in the morning with the baaad tummy hunger where you feel kinda nosh. But then I fall back to sleep and it’s all good ;) Oh love the new plates! Yesterday I was at Target and walked by clearance dishware and didn’t see anything that I liked very much, but then Joe was like “hey here’s this plate for .98.” He realized I couldn’t even see it on the shelf because I’m such a shorty! haha It is really cute-orange and white flowers!

That’s strange about that Luna bar…I haven’t tried the “new” recipe ones but I used to really like that one! I haven’t seen near as many choices of Luna bars/clif bars up in Canada as you guys have so I can’t even try all the delicious ones I see you eat!

That salad/dinner combo looks amazing!
