Call me crazy but I woke up extra early on a Friday morning (okay maybe just MY version of ‘extra early’) just to make breakfast—strawberries ‘n’ cream.

….in my oat bran! That’s Greek yogurt by the way. I kept it light knowing we would be eating in class.

Call my crazy but I opted to walk the mile to class instead of drive, despite it being a frigid 20-some degrees outside. Then one of my classmates picked me up midway because she felt bad for me
.
Anyone else just enjoy walking?!

Call me crazy but I whipped out my camera in my Culinary Cultures class. Not in front of the class….well sorta. I am now the designated camera girl (or photographer if you will) and I help take photos of the food that each student brings in. I also brought my own camera and snapped some shots.
Today we had 2 students bring in food.
1) Italian Creme Cake (no substitutions in this baby!)

I did tell Amanda, the baker of this cake, about my blog when I whipped out my camera. (Hello Amanda if you’re reading!)

2) Coffee Cake (again, no substitutions)

The crumbly topping was outta this world!

Call me crazy but I think it’s somewhat refreshing eating desserts made with the real stuff. It’s true–you really don’t need a big portion when it’s made with REAL butter, eggs, and sugar. A little goes a long way.
**We also enjoyed a creeeeamy tomato soup that our professor made. It looked like this…except in a plastic cup

Call me crazy but I was excited to get to the gym despite having an intense work out yesterday. I ellipticalled for 65 min. and then did a quick 20 min. full body strength training sesh.
I’ve been doing 1 set (sometimes 2) for each muscle group. I’m thinking it’s about time I take my strength training up a notch and increase it to 2 sets or 1 set of 2 different exercises per muscle group. I am certainly reaping the health benefits of strength training with what I am doing now, but I think my body is ready for more.
***
Call me CRAZY but I was craving a Kefir Green Monster despite my body being frozen.

- 1 cup frozen spinach
- 1/2 banana
- 1/3 cup kefir
- 1 TBSP Butternut Squash
- H20
- Stevia
.
Call me even crazier for photographing my food outside in a t-shirt and wet hair!
I also enjoyed a BANINI (I haven’t had one in ages).

Inside the Banini was almond butter, banana, and butternut squash puree. See it?

And an apple w/ almond butter (not pictured).

All together now.

Call me crazy for worrying about not having enough veggies in case we actually wake up with the predicted 6-10 inches of snow tomorrow morning. Most people stock up on bread, eggs, and milk….

Not this crazy chica! I scrambled around campus to get some veggies in case the whole world shuts down tomorrow (highly likely in NC).
I’ll probably have some version of this beautiful salad tonight for dinner. Perhaps some kabocha squash too?

Now I am snackin’ on a Rosie’s Granola Bar as I type this.

LOVE.

Call me crazy but I’m thinking the weathermen might be right this time….

100%.
***Winter Storm Warning for tonight. I guess I can’t go out later. Bummer, huh?
‘SNOW AND SLEET ACCUMULATIONS OF 5 TO 10 INCHES ARE EXPECTED IN THE TRIANGLE…. ACCUMULATIONS OF SNOW AND SLEET WILL SIGNIFICANTLY IMPACT TRAVEL ACROSS THE WARNING AREA. AFTER PRECIPITATION BEGINS LATE FRIDAY EVENING… TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED TO REMAIN NEAR OR BELOW FREEZING THROUGH MIDDAY MONDAY.’

Love your “Banini” too cute
Stay warm
Mmm the salad looks yummy! That sweet potato reminds me of the fries I baked up last night…soo delicious!!
Haha, I guess we’re both crazy–I walked to all my classes today instead of bussing it, and I am supah worried about not having food this weekend!
aRGH England grounds to a halt if we get so much as a frost, so 8-10 inches of snow..eek!!
it’s like me-time!!
Totally agree about the ‘real’ cake thing too – I find that proper 70%+ dark chocolate is SO much more satisfying than milk or white chocolate, and it tastes DIVINE!!
I always walk the mile and a bit to uni too, even if it’s skanky, purely for the walk
Oh, and that banini – omgosh I have to do that!!
We all have crazy chicks nesting deep inside (or outside, hehe). And hello, Ms. Food Photographer.
I’m lovin’ your banini and veggie-rific grocery haul. Those granola bars look so good! I’m not that excited for snow, if only because it’s Saturday…
“Banini” = best word ever, I love it! It’s FREEZING here too…spring can’t come fast enough!
I’m craving that Italian creme cake something fierce now…
Congrats on the snow! All my family in NC is so excited and posting on FB too. Mmm love the REAL desserts – I agree – just a few bites is so worthwhile!
So true what you say about using the real stuff in sweet treats. Best option if you ask me!
Stay warm & safe!
Hope you don’t get snowed in! At least you have all the required veggies
burr girl yeah i am so sick of this snow mess ahhhh not exciting.. esp. not exciting when i wore flats without socks today haha silly me
yummo food
i do the whole oh no veggies and fruit thing too.. haha love it must be a foodie thing
your crazy beautiful girl!!!!
Loving the eats!!
Wow all that stuff in class looked delish, love the cake!!!
Keep warm, Im freezing too!!!! I hope we dont get alot of snow : p
Those cakes look fab! I so just love to walk especially to work in the morning it clears my head ready for the day xx
Yes, I LOVE walking but NOT when I’m freezing while doing it!
Wow to that coffee cake! Looks delicious. You are definitely NOT crazy for waking up early to make breakfast – it’s a must in the day! And I too enjoy walking to school. If it didn’t bother my knee so much, I’d probably do it daily. I miss living close enough to walk!
I l.o.v.e. your themed posts! You may be a bit crazy, but that’s why we all love ya =) Have a COZY weekend. Don’t do anything too crazy now.
I totally agree – when it comes to certain foods, especially dessert, real ingredients are the way to go. Except when you eat way too much cookie batter (i.e. me yesterday). There is a reason you should only eat in moderation!!
You southerners are so cute and the 6-10 inches shutting down the state
haha you aren’t crazy- but i dont like walks hwen it is as cold as it is here..ah! that snow storm doesnt sound so fun but at least you are prepared. have a great weekend! teh cooking class sounds fun
xoxo
shelley
the banini looks delicious. please stay safe and warm this weekend.
Banini?!? YESSSSSSS!
Ah I hope the snow doesn’t come to Maryland! That coffee cake looks amaaazing.. and I totally agree with yoU! Sometimes you need a little bit of the real thing
Judging by those treats your Friday class is getting better and better!
Hope all the snow stays away. But you do have some great veggies there to get you through….
I’m with you, Allie – I stocked-up on lots of veg (and some fruit) when we were snowed-in here… cue deliciously warming soups and some good crunchy fruit. Bon appétit and belated Happy Birthday to your Mum. It’s great that you’re such a happy, close family. Keep warm!
uy i hope the weather doesnt get too bad! at least youre prepared
and i honestly have to 100% agree with you on the desserts thing…until recently i was constantly trying to healthify desserts but i was always never satisfied..same with frozen yogurt (no matter how delicious it is i ALWAYS need something after!) i had real ice cream for the first time in forever this winter break and i was COMPLETELY satisfied! its totally worth the “real stuff” in moderation
i also like the whole home-made dessert aspect…i feel like its more special when its made with butter, sugar and love
hahahhaha sounds so corny but thats just how i see it! for me personally its more satisfying. cant believe you were craving a green monster when you were so cold! all i want right now is tea and a bowl of oatmeal
i hope the snow doesnt get too out of control!
i love walking places! i even run places – my friend was like did you.run here for lunch? me: YES I DID!
Ah sheesh! I had some Italian cake last summer. It was to die for! I think that is one of those things that you just leave alone and enjoy for all it’s goodness
You are crazy. And your blog is crazy good. And you would be crazy if you did not eat that entire cake
I would sneak the entire cake home for myself
I live in S.C. and and we have the same weather forecast. It’s been snowing here since 3 this afternoon.. craziness!!! The world shuts down around here when it snows so much as a single snowflake. And girl, I had the same worry!!! I worry about running out of veggies, yogurt, and bananas (can’t make my oats without my bananas!)!
Your banani sounds AMAZING!!
I like your “crazy” theme:)
And I agree about stuff made with real ingredients! Totally worth a little bit!
The banini is too cute! Love it!! <3
Oh goodness! You better stay inside and keep cover, little missy! Good thing you stocked up on some goods.
Ps: I am so proud of you for telling a classmate about your blog. I was embarrassed, at first, to admit that I had one, but if it’s something that you love to do, why be ashamed?
Hehe… I walk through crazy weather too. As long as it isn’t icy, I don’t mind. I ended up buying these weird things (Yaktrax) this winter so that not even ice can stop me.
Your class sounds so cool, and it’s AWESOME that you are the photographer! Cakes both look amazing- real deal cakes beat fake stuff anyday!
Would send some sunshing your way, but the weather here is pretty “meh” (typical British drizzly and damp!)
two words: COFFEE CAKE.
I stocked up groceries yesterday too, just like today is going to be “end” of the world
I love walking too… no matter how cold! Yeah~~ I’m crazy like you.
I like walking, but it’s been too EXCRUCIATINGLY cold for me to like it the past couple of days
And I know what you mean about being the “designated camera person” — I am the photographer for my dietetics program! I was too shy to tell people about my website, so I just pretended I was taking pictures for myself. Hehe, oh well
And that banini … oh my goodness …
Love your post! And how good do those yummy cakes look?!?!
That banini is callin’ my name! We definitely have the negative temps going on over here.
But I must be crazy like you, because I still made my friends walk yesterday instead of taking the bus
Great minds think alike!
Well I’ll be crazy with you girl because veggies are a priority and “real” desserts make me happier than any diet version I’ve tried!
Mmm looks like a delicious, healthy day! That forecast though. . . boooooo. It is FFFFREEZING here in Boston!
I just discovered your blog and really enjoy it. You have great pictures of delicious-looking food and a fantastic outlook. I wish I had been so “together” while in college (it was only 18 months ago haha but a lot can change!
).
Wow! Those treats look really good! That must be such a fun class! You’re so right, when it’s made with the real stuff, it can definitely be more satisfying. When I make super healthy bread and stuff, I eat like the whole pan in two days! Hope you have fun with that weather and a great weekend!
And call me crazy…but these eats are sooooooo good-looking and I just love to check your blog!
xxx Julia (Taste of Living)
omg. I am diggin that banini! I love squash with almond butter (I eat it every night, ha!) and making it up panini style with bananas. What a rockin idea! Thanks! Wow that sounds ssoo cold! Cant wait for some spring weather. Anyways I hope you have a fabulous day!
Totally agree with you about decadent desserts being the “real” thing. It’s just not worth it if you don’t get the full experience.
And a suggestion on taking your strength training up a notch: try doing higher weights+lower reps if you can. I’ve gotten some of the best results doing that!
Ohh winter storms…didn’t stop anyone from going to the bar over here last night!
Okay I was totally with you until you mentioned being outside in a t-shirt with wet hair in crazy cold temps (from my perspective). The rest of it I’m with you on… but yeah, t-shirt + 20 degrees = NUTS!
Walking when it’s brisk outside though is so refreshing – it has a different smell, and then you walk inside and it feels all different.
And yes – banini is an awesome word.
