Snacky McSnackerson

in Breakfast, Dessert, Dinner, Fitness, Groceries, Snacks

…is my new name. I am most definitely the reigning queen of SNAX.

I didn’t have class today….YAY! I did have a paper to write though…NAY! Twitter, Bobby Flay <3 and a plethora of snax helped me through it. No worries.

***

Breakfast, in one word, was drinkable! I guess I was thirsty this morning or just too lazy to chew :)

Kefir Green Tea Melon Monster

IMG_2799.JPG

  • 1 cup frozen spinach
  • 1/2 cup of watermelon and honey dew
  • 1/2 Amazing Grass Packet
  • 1/2 cup Almond Milk

The Lock Ness Monster was just waiting to creep outta that foam!

IMG_2797.JPG

Green Tea Latte!

I used to make these a lot last winter. I simply microwave a cup o’ almond milk, stevia and either instant green tea or a green tea bag.

IMG_2803.JPG

So creamy.

IMG_2800.JPG

I continued my hydration fest with cafetiere coffee. See my paper being written? :)

IMG_2809.JPG

IMG_2811.JPG IMG_2812.JPG

Then I proceeded to snack my face off. Snacking is definitely a symptom of paper writing for me. I also didn’t have anywhere to go so I knew I could graze at my disposal :) .

Ezekiel English Muffin w/ almond butter and banana slices

IMG_2818.JPG

Pretzels.

IMG_2820.JPG

Finally at around 4pm I had a quasi dinner:

Leftover salad w/ a hard boiled egg and avocado

IMG_2824.JPG

IMG_2830.JPG

Side of panini-pressed sweet taters and ketchup.

IMG_2832.JPG

Close-up on the char marks.

IMG_2836.JPG

IMG_2825.JPG

Graham cracker, dried apricot, almond butter….still snackin’.

IMG_2837.JPG

Groceries from Kroger:

  • Silk Pure Almond (1/2 gallon for $2.44!!!!!). That can normally only get you 1/4 gallon.
  • THE ONLY CAN OF PUMPKIN IN THE WHOLE STORE. I refuse to pay $3 at WFs for pumpkin.
  • Whey protein powder….$1 each. Kinda sketch…

IMG_2839.JPG

Then I had ~1 cup of Country Spice Pumpkin Granola from the bulk section at Whole Foods.

IMG_2841.JPG

I’m 100% sure this is Trader Joe’s Granola….there is absolutely no doubt about it. Weird that it was in the bulk section at WFs, huh?

***

I worked out while watching the Duke vs. UNC basketball game. We WON!!!!!! I was confident we would win but it got annoyingly close in the middle.

Chocolate Berry Recovery Shake:

  • ~1 cup almond milk
  • 3 strawberries
  • 1/2 packet chocolate protein powder
  • ice

IMG_2849.JPG

It tasted like a milk shake!! I like the Silk Almond Milk (50x better than Almond Dream…blegh). It is sweetened though so it has a higher sugar content (7g of sugar) than unsweetened Almond Breeze.

It has a lovely almond flavor and is very creamy!

IMG_2844.JPG

I also made another decaf Green Tea Latte, this time using a tea bag!

IMG_2846.JPG

Mmmmmmmmmm.

IMG_2848.JPG

What’s with me and liquids today!?!?

Alright gots to go!! I have to wake up early so I can pee because our water is being shut off from 10-4 tomorrow!! Guff.

Tell me, what’s your favorite snack!?

2% greek yogurt with agave nectar and grape nuts all the way! LOVE THAT! And hot chocolate :)
I also love charred food – not as a snack, but you did a close up of the charr, and it’s gooood :D
Poor you with no water, that sucks!! I hopeyou cope :s

Glad you liked the Silk almondmilk! I would have felt silly if you hated it :P I don’t mind so much that it’s sweetened since it’s not artifically so, and it’s still pretty low in sugar.
I’ll have to try a green tea latte with it! I’ve been trying to find a way to enjoy green tea, lol.

Ooh! I’ve never thought about making my own green tea latte! I tried the Starbucks one, and it was WAY too sweet for my taste.

OMG I need to find that almond milk ASAP. Looks soo yummy. A green tea latte is the only way I’m going to make it through today! Do you find that you can really taste the green tea when you use a tea bag and milk?? Sometimes mie comes out super weak :(

Hope you have a wonderful day lady!!

I am also super snacky when I have things to do – it’s totally a procrastination thing for me!

I didn’t know Silk made almond milk – thought they only did soy. I can 1/2 gallons of Almond Breeze at Walmart for cheap, but that is usually dependent on if I feel like giving Walmart money.

I want to try protein powders – do you recommend whey?

Creating delicious treats to enjoy is always more interesting than paper writing, you did a great job making the day go by! :) I like your teddy bear serving the pretzels.

So the Kroger pumpkin is acceptable? For some reason I have only ever bought Libby’s, but wondered if Kroger brand was okay. I think it’s more mental than anything, I buy Kroger brand everything else!

Does ice cream count as a snack? :) Something I actually have as a snack- Greek yogurt with fruits and granolas. Yum!

Reply

13 Karla February 11, 2010 at 10:21 am

I’m definitely a snacker while paper writing (it was my down fall when I wrote my senior honors thesis…). I’ve found that I snack less when I’m in the computer lab working on it. Probably because food isn’t allowed in there :)
Toast with almond or peanut butter is definitely my fav! Slice a banana on there and it’s pretty much heaven on a plate!

Or coconut milk yogurt/kefir with blueberries and hemp seeds (maybe some raw honey too!) Yummmm <3

When I was in college and had to stay up late studying or writing papers, coffee and lots of snacks were the only things that saved me! At least you are eating healthy snacks, unlike what I used to do. :)
I tried that new almond breeze and thought it was delicious too. Although I love Almond Breeze, I’m so glad to have more options in the almond milk department.

The green tea latte sounds really ice. I’ll have to try it.
Funny about the granola! Maybe they just use a really similar recipe?

Hmm…wonder why you are in a pumpkin shortage? My small town grocery store has TONS of it for cheap.

Oh…and I tried your potatoes on the panini press. Loved them!

I love Greek yogurt mixed with blueberries, cinnamon, stevia and almonds. Lately (since I finally found it) I’ll snack on roasted Kabocha. Don’t even bother warming it up!

20 Ildie February 11, 2010 at 11:35 am

My favorites are either a Greek yogurt mess or my new obsession.

Mix pumpkin puree with sugar free vanilla pudding mix, cinnamon and pumpkin pie spice. I top it with fat free whip cream and I swear it tastes like pumpkin pie. SO GOOD!

I had to giggle when you asked if we could see your paper being written because it was on the laptop. Made me feel old!! LOL! I remember actually *writing* out essay’s and the such by hand, in blue ink double spaced on lined paper. Then I got lucky (or so I thought then)cuz Mom bought me an electric typewriter. I was in heaven with that thing because it was so much FASTER than long hand. ROFL! HAHA! I’m a dinosaur! My kids look at that type writer now and ask what the heck it is. Oh, boy…

I think the granola is originally from WF- I know a lot of their products are jus relabelled but made elsewhere (ie, their enchiladas are made by Amy’s). Or so I’ve heard :D

Fave snack…currently muesli + H20 microwaved and stirred into Fage :D

My new fav snack: dried apricots + dark chocolate almonds = YUMMY!

My favorite snack is pretzels & hummus, veggies & hummus, or an apple w/ AB. Potato chips are up there on the list as well, but I try not to eat too many of them :)

31 Kelly February 11, 2010 at 2:59 pm

It seems like your water is shut off every second day! What’s with that?!

To make your green tea latte, do you make regular tea and mix it with the almond milk or just put the tea bag right in the milk? I want to try to make some homemade tea lattes because they are so delicious!

I am a snacking machine when I work on papers so I know where you are coming from! At least yours have been healthy :)

Enjoy your day, hun ;)

Ahhh it’s weird that the WF over there charges $3 for pumpkin! I always get my pumpkin from there cuz it’s $2 here in Chicago, whereas the cans always cost more at Trader Joe’s because TJ’s only sells organic pumpkin I believe!

My favorite snack = cereal! hahaah I can’t start eating it or I can’t stop. :(

Holy cow, you snacked tons! hehe I love days like that. My favorite snacks are plaintain chips, stuff w/ peanut, almond, or sunflower seed butter smeared on, pickles, anything w/ cheese, fruits, nuts, etc.

I’ve been buying so many of those Silk almond milks (one at time) that I should just stock up! As long as you don’t open them, the expiration date is pretty late. My favorite snacks are dried cranberries (I was just eating them), cottage cheese with apple sauce, or almond milk with kashi heart to heart cinnamon. Those are my current faves, as they tend to change, except the cranberries-I’ve been eating those foooreeevvveer. :)

Here ‘guff’ means that somethings bad, or when someone’s talking rubbish or non-sense. My Dad uses the word all the time. If the football is not going his way he’ll start screaming at the ref through the telly, “Oi that’s just guff” etc! I did just look up urbandictionary though and they have hundreds of meanings! http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=guff
