Crank Up Da Heat

All 3 of my roommates are sleeping in a tent tonight so I have the apartment to myself!!! CRANK UP DA HEAT!!  (If you’re new to the blog…my roommates constantly have the AC running and set at 50 degrees even when it’s frigid outside).

I’m gonna watch the Olympics and hopefully get some work done. I usually end up twirling and dancing around whenever I watch figure skating and/or gymnastics so we’ll see how much work I actually get done :) .

Breakfast:

IMG_3088.JPG

Pumpkin egg white oatmeal (1/4 cup rolled oats + 1/4 cup oat bran + 1/4 cup pumpkin + 1 egg white).

IMG_3103.JPG

Topped with bananas, pecans, and coconut.

IMG_3099.JPG

Cup o’ joe to kick-off my exam cramming. I’ve gone back to adding cinnamon to my coffee again and it’s splendid!

IMG_3094.JPG

Anyone else like eating with baby-sized utensils?

IMG_3090.JPG

Munchies while studying:

I had 3 of these babies. These dried apricots weren’t kept in an air-tight container so they shrunk and got tough!

Cinna-raisin Ezekiel English Muffin w/ almond butter and banana slices:

I spent most of the morning studying but quickly got bored. I did a little walking while studying but it was wiiiiindy and chilly here so I only walked ~1 mile before heading inside.

The exam was alright. Nothing too crazy.

Afterwards, I completed an experiment at the Business School for $10–it took less 10 minutes! THEN I went to the gym sporting mah new sneax!!

I bought these over winter break because they were on sale but I haven’t taken them outta the box until now. My other shoes are still okay to run in but they are wearing down. I figured I could double fist (double foot) for a few months.

IMG_3130.JPG

At the gym, I ran 2 miles in my white ‘n’ shiny sneax and then ellipticalled for 15 min. I was tiiiiired and dragging. I’m declaring tomorrow a rest day!

I actually prepped dinner this afternoon when I got sick of studying, so there’s still daylight in these photos.

Veggie Tofu Stir Fry using Trader Joe’s Gyoza Dipping Sauce

With a serving of Quick Pearled Barley:

IMG_3117.JPG

I mentioned awhile ago that I’m not a white rice fan, I prefer brown rice. Heather suggested that I use pearled barley so I got this box to try. I don’t know why I didn’t think of using pearled barley earlier because I LOVE barley soups!

IMG_3126.JPG

It was a great way to add a whole grain to my stir fry. I wanna add it to my oats tomorrow! Check out the protein and fiber!

IMG_3128.JPG

The most interesting side salad in the world.

IMG_3119.JPG

IMG_3121.JPG

For dessert, I’m gonna have some fruit (didn’t have much of that today) and perhaps some protein hot chocolate. I might go hunting for some real chocolate too!

Did I mention, I’ve got the apartment to myself tonight?!?

I am a big fan of figure skating as well.. I have been watching it every night.

Your meal looks really good… I love barley. My husband like the house at a nice cold temp of 65 and I like it at a nice temp 75+.

I am continuously amazed at how healthy you eat for a college student. When I was in college, cooking meant pita bread with marinara sauce and mozerella in the toaster oven. No veggies saw the inside of our fridge! Awful when I think back! Love all your creativity too!

yum, that barley rice looks really interesting. I just got that same A initial mug. I got the small fancy tea kind, but exchaged it for a bigger cup for more tea. :) I am so confused on why your roommates would turn on the AC when it’s snowing outside. maybe to mess with you? I’m clueless…

Oh ay, big up the pearl barley, I love that stuff! Equally love baby sized spoons :P it makes me eat slower and enjoy my food more!
I feel your annoyance with the heating thing – my family is like that, so I sneak the heating on in secret and bask in the warmth til someone notices :P

I dont use baby utensils but have a slight obsession with teaspoons :D I always add cinnamon to my coffee…soooooo good. Yum. I love barley too- I always associate it with soups and never really thought of it as a grain in itself. Can’t wait to see what you use it for :)

Enjoy your apartment freedom!
