I’ve had the same exact DukeCard since the very first day of freshman orientation, August 21st 2006. I’m quite proud of this accomplishment as the ID card is used for everything campus related–to get into dorms, to buy food, to check out books and to get into the gym!
I’m someone that never loses stuff. Despite my messy room, I always know exactly where my stuff is. I used to hate cleaning my room when I was younger because I would complain that I wouldn’t know where anything was afterwards (Umm stuffed under your bed perhaps?!).
All year, the people at the gym have been nagging me about my photo being ‘faded.’ I avoided getting a new card because I wanted to last all 4 years with the SAME one! Plus, I didn’t want to take another photo. However, they have been buckling down and getting feisty about it lately. So in fear of not gaining admittance to the gym, I finally got a brand spankin’ new card.
I went after hours though so I didn’t have to take a new photo
. I swear I haven’t aged since 7th grade!

You can totally see my face in the old card!
The number to the left of the barcode indicates which card number it is. #1 baby!

I couldn’t get my cravings straight for breakfast. What to do? Eat small portions of everything. That way every taste bud is a happy camper.

Check out these tempting combos:
Oatbran w/ crumbled Carrot Ginger Muffin and almond butter

Kefir + Greek Yogurt + Kashi Puffs + Apple chunks

Apple slices

Before class I had s’more apple and a slice of almond cheese. Fab combo!

Workout: 60 min. elliptical + 30 min. full body strength training
Post workout Shake:
- Vanilla Protein Powder
- Spinach
- Almond Milk
- Banana

For dinner, I made a waldorf style salad using TJ’s broccoli slaw.

Broccoli Slaw, Walnuts, Apple Chunks, and Greek Yogurt

All mixed together:

I then used it as a topping for a salad.

On the side, I had a sandwich round w/ cottage cheese, banana slices, and cinnamon:

Dessert couldn’t come sooner!
- Pumpkin ice cream
- TJ’s Tart Frozen Yogurt
- Chocolate Chips
- Plantain Chips
- Chocolate Hazelnut Nutella Cookie

I went back for seconds of EVERYTHING! Strength training always makes me hungrier than normal….gotta feed the muscles!

The snacking continued as I watched the Olympics–love womens figure skating!! I may or may not have started tearing up when the skater whose mother died over the weekend completed her performance. Such a sad yet inspiring story.

+ a huge spoonful of almond butter.

I’m heading back to the bakery on Thursday to chat with the owner and the catering manager. I need some suggestions for questions to ask them….anything! I’ve got a list of questions but I feel like you all have great ideas that I may not have thought of. Let me hear ‘em!
A lot of you asked if I went back to the bakery to work or if I will be working there. I did not go back the next day. The baker was just sayin’ it casually and unfortunately, I don’t think she is the one who makes those decisions. However, I will meet those who do on Thursday, so we’ll see. I’m going ~1-2x per week for my project so I’ll be there observing at the very least. I’m trying not to overstep my boundaries though, ya know?
My professor suggested I bake my Pumpkin Coconut Pecan Granola for them as a thank you prezzie…and a potential topping for their gelato. That means I gotta get my oven warmed up tonight!

Seriously, you have a talent for slicing apples so neatly. Who trained you!? May I have their number!? It always looks like a massacre when I slice apples :’(
Hahaha, you´re photo on that card was lovely!
I´m just like that, too – I don´t usually loose stuff, but my room´s never 100% cleaned up…
Have a great day!
Brazilian XOXO´s,
Gabriela
Your salad looked AWESOME! just came back from lunch (and had a salad too) and got soooo jealous over yours! YUMMY! I’ve never seen broccoli slaw anywhere, interesting! I’m usually not a huge fan of broccoli and my bf hates it but that way I could sneak it into salads without him noticing…
I’ve been doing the same with baby spinach (which I love and he also hates, men!!!)
Have a sunny day!
Good luck at the bakery.
That pumpkin ice cream looks awesome!
I loved reading about your DukeCard because as an undergrad I had the exact same goal – to keep the same card for all four years!!! I ended up failing my senior year not b/c I lost it, but because it started tearing right where the scanning strip was.
OMG, I have so many of those ID cards. Mainly because I changed schools 4 different times. Haha, I still use them to get the student prices at the movies, so keep them forever!
Good luck at the bakery. Can’t wait to hear about it.
I think it is a great idea if you make the granola for them! I have so many IDs and still hang on to them even tho I graduated 4 years ago.
I love (Blair) Waldorf salad! Yours looks delicious!
I never lose stuff either, which is good…but that means that in the rare case that I DO lose something, I get SUPER frustrated.
Yummm I love dinner combos! One night I had pancakes and sweet potato fries! Haha, talk about a weird combination. =P
I know you love any excuse to bake – hope your granola turns out well
I’ve had the same ID card for 4 years too! And it’s gotta last 2 more (ugh I hate saying that!)
i adore the way you eat!! it is so pretty…..OH P.S. YOU ARE SO PRETTY! that card is BANGING! dizzam! #1 ………HOTTIE !
i love your little “tastes” breakfast, and that waldorf salad looks soooooooo good.
gosh you make me miss apples, broc slaw, and yog so much!!!
p.s. almond cheese?! what?! ive seen it, but is it good?! i gotta try!
I’m still on ID #1, too, and God forbid I lose it *knock on wood*! You always have the most amazing food combos. Seriously, where do you come up with this stuff? Mouthwatering. The broccoli slaw looks delicious, and I’m loving the pumpkin ice cream dessert bowl! Yours is definitely one of my favorite blogs for creative foodie inspiration! Enjoy the bakery and have a great hump day!
That waldorf salad looks so delicious
mmm love the waldorf salad. And your desserts always make me happy! Enjoy your day!
I love your “bit of everything” breakfast! I can see how it hit the spot….
i LOVE how pretty your food always looks, I wish I had your skills girl
Omg in college, I NEVER lost or misplaced myID! I couldnt believe it, given you couldn’t really see my face my senior year either, but everyone and their mom lost theirs or it cracked, and I kept mine i was quite proud LOL
You should totally make that granola for the bakery! that is such a good idea!!
Beautiful photo!
Yay Allie! It sounds like things are going so well for you right now
I would definitely ask them how they started in their business, because it sounds like something that really interests you as well. Challenges to running a business, especially a food/bakery in this economy. What their favorite part is, what their favorite item is to make. What advice they would give to someone starting out…if they can hire you
Seriously, you’re not overstepping your bounds if you just ask them to let you be an intern or to keep shadowing or to do some marketing work! Make it work for you and what your goals are – but also make sure they get something out of it if you do want to work with them. Free work for free cupcakes/blogging about them – sounds like a win/win!!
Haha I was the same way, I had my ID for all of college and you couldn’t even see acedace my the end!
Girl you are gorgggggggeous! I’m not looking forward to taking a pic for my new card next year. I always have bad luck wit dat.
And can I just say your “icing” from yesterday sounds bombtasticmarvy? Totes trying that if I ever decide to take the plunge and buy coconut butt!
Ummm I want your dessert now please?!?! Looks great girl.
I too still have my first ID. I don’t know how I haven’t lost it with all the traveling etc, but I’m crossing my fingers I’ll make it ’til the end!! Instead of fading, I have a nice purple glow around my head…my auora? ahaha who knowsss
haha i’ve gone through at least 2 a year LOL. mine this year just got a slit down the middle so i got a new one for free thank the lord. otherwise they charge us $25 yuck. love the dried fruit! dried pineapple is definitely my favorite too! i also like figs and cherries dried too
AH! Your dessert looks soooo good!! I want some now! lol. Btw, I’ve nominated you for an award!
Your granola is famous!! Great idea for a gift!
I had my undergrad ID card and used it for all the purposes you named above. Then ONE MONTH before graduation… I lost it!! I had to pay $25 to replace something I was only going to use for a month! I didn’t get the bus pass renewed because that was ridiculous expensive!
I LOVE womens figure skating as well, one of my favorite things to watch!
Mmmm that salad looks great and I seriously want to go buy an apple now! YUM!
i adore your froyo creation girl!!
Wow, I have maaad love for my Northwestern Wildcard too. I HAD to get a new one during my senior year because the magnetic swipe stopped working and I was piiiiisssed because like you, I wanted to keep it going for as long as possible! hahaha I still have my card 2 years after graduation, but I asked for a new picture because my freshman year photo was too dorky. muhahaha
I love that you’re interning at a bakery. I would want to ask the owner, where do they see the bakery in 10 years? 15? Will they change the things they bake (and why)? For example…maybe it’s based on consumer demand, or social/health-related trends, or won’t change what they bake/sticking to tradition?
Haha–this is too funny! Our list of similarities never seems to end:)
I’ve never tried that pumpkin ice cream, but now I want to go on the hunt for it!
I saw the story about the beautiful skater who lost her mom this weekend! It was a really sad story, makes you wonder why things like that could happen.
And I was relieved when I found out I didn’t have to take a new ID picture when I had to get a new one last year…I never look that fab on campus haha
Ohhh myyy..I haven’t had pumpkin icecream in sooo long…mmmm I love your breakfast. It’s like you made yourself a little buffet
That also reminds me to make more oatbran. I love 1/2 oats 1/2 oatbran combos. The brocc salad looks awesome too! Yummmmy day!
Matt had his Davidson Cat Card for like 10 years.
And then left it in his jeans and it went through the wash.
Bye bye Cat Card.
