Getting Jiggy With It

I was gettin’ jiggy with it in the kitchen yesterday, wouldn’t you say? Okay, so maybe YOU wouldn’t use those exact words, but Will Smith and I do. Anyways, I hope you’ve enjoyed the recipes!

Meanwhile, I was NOT getting jiggy with my schoolwork! I have been ignoring my books all week and it’s crunch time now. I need to get some work done this weekend so I am not drowning in a sea of work/stress when I get back to school. When I return on Sunday (sniffle sniffle), it’ll be the last stretch of the semester, which means exams and due dates galore.

I know what you’re going to say….it’s my break and I should take a break but I at least need to get some work done or I will be in serious t-r-o-u-b-l-e!

Okay gotta catch up now…

After my wonderful brunch of 3 Ingredient Oat Flour Crepes yesterday, I hit up the gym for a cardio and strength circuit workout.

IMG_4354.JPG

Specifically, elliptical and upper body weights.

I made a plan before heading down so I had something to ‘complete.’ 40 min. elliptical + 9 arm exercises:

It was actually beneficial for me to have a workout written out because I was having a hard time staying motivated. I was just going through the motions, EVEN though I was watching Bobby Flay make delicious sandwiches.

Well, good thing I had the motions written out :) .

Post workout, I had a quick snack before walking over to the bank, which is conveniently located next to Trader Joe’s.

Like Whole Foods, TJ’s is just a few steps away (as are Target, Barnes and Noble, Harris Teeter and plenty of other stores too!!).

I brought Garmy with me to see if TJ’s was closer than WF’s. Yep, round trip it was 1.27 miles compared to the 1.75 miles to WF’s.

IMG_4383.JPG

I didn’t buy much there (notice I went to the bank before going to TJ’s)…just some salad mix, pecans, sunflower seeds onions and a tomato.

IMG_4385.JPG

I needed ingredients to make my Green Pea Guacamole! Thanks for all of your compliments on my creation yesterday.

I had about 1/4 of this spread before dinner.

Dinner was more of my Poppa’s cooking:

Cod with greens and tomatoes:

IMG_4410.JPG

Celery and dried tofu:

IMG_4414.JPG

My plate: Portions of everything on a bed of lettuce and red bell peppers.

+ more chips and Green Pea Guacamole

And then I had even more of everything….and then some….

The past couple of days, I’ve been waiting for my mom to come home to eat dinner as a family. Well, she’s been coming home rather late (!!!) and I’ve been one hungry hippo. Not only has this caused me to nibble on random junk, but I’ve been ravenous at dinner AND I’ve been getting crazy sweet cravings post dinner that seem to never end.

I had a double dessert meal last night consisting of A LOT of chocolate, a chocolate chip cookie, dried fruit, biscotti + almond butter, and 1/2 an orange. Yikes.

Lesson learned: Don’t make your stomach hold out for dinner especially after a workout. A small snack will not last. It will only lead you to eat more and more and more later on. I’m thinking 2 smaller meals would work better…or just getting started on dinner early.

So true! If I don’t eat when I’m hungry, I end up eating waaaay too much.

I just get started on dinner early, even if it is 5:00! I am a grandma ;-)

Aww, sweet of you to wait so that you can eat with your mama :-) I need to start writing out my workouts– I always wing it, and especially with the weights, I feel like I just wander around doing random things.

I’ve learned the same exact thing recently! It’s always hard for me to eat right after a workout if I know that dinner is soon to come but I keep reading about how eating within one hour you workout is crucial in making sure you reap the full benefits of your workout! All of this food looks amazzzing. So jealous you get some home cookin’!

I totally agree. Whenever I try to “hold out” when I’m hungry, it leads to disaster!

That’s why I tend to have dinner early and a small snack sometime later before bed. Works for me :)

And how you went in TJ’s and came out with that amount of stuff… i’m blown away by your strength girlie ;)

Love the cod with greens and tomatoes! It looks divine! I agree with you about not waiting to eat when you’re starving. It just makes you need to eat more overall!

I have to have a plan before a workout too. And I love mixing up the cardio and the weights in the same workout. It makes it go by so much faster.

How nice to have TJs and Whole Foods a short walk away there!

Writing things down always helps me get them done, too! And I’m with you on the schoolwork denial over break. I’d rather just ignore it! Enjoy the rest of your time off!

I like to write down what I’m gonna do in the gym too if I’m not doing just cardio. Otherwise I feel like I’m just flitting around and not getting much done.

That cod looks SO tender and flakey. Drool…..

Whenever I’m home my ad gets home super late and its sooo hard for me to not just snack away til he gets home. Half the time I end up snacking too much trying to wait, and the other time I cave and just eat! If I know I have to wait awhile to eat a real meal after a workout, I have a decent sized snack so I dont start munching on my arm!

I know what you mean about waiting for people. In my case, I’m often waiting (and waiting) for those I live with to wake up so we can eat breakfast together. On days that I’m really hungry, this leads to me picking at all kind of things and semi-ruining my “appetite” for the ‘normal’ meal that I was *really* craving, like a big bowl of oatmeal. A light, reasonable snack may be a good compromise… but waiting is the worst!
