Cram and Crack

Cram cram cram cram. That was the story of last night and this morning as I prepared for my exam earlier today. Half of me still cares about getting good grades this semester while the other half of me realizes that no bakery owner will ever look that closely at the tiny number on my resume. Tiny in font size not value, thank you VERY much :) .

Don’t worry, I kicked it into high gear last night and studied as much as I possibly could. I didn’t do so hot on the previous exam so that was motivation enough.

However, now I’m completely behind on emails, other work, and life. I have a big presentation tomorrow for another class so I’m gonna leave today’s eats up to your imagination (minus one snack below). Not only am I a slow poke blogger, but I’m a slow poke photographer too and for once, school work has to come first.

Before we get to the featured snack, I want to wish my roomie Christina a HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! You are the reason why I am still sane!! Note: she got 4 cakes today! Remember how many I got? hint: 0.

I know it’s officially pot day, but I indulged in some crack today instead to fuel my studying…

Crack Cookies

These digestive cookies were another UK snack brought back by my brother. When I was studying abroad in London, my flatmates and I referred to these gems as ‘Crack Cookies’ because we could polish off a sleeve of these in one night, easy.

These cookies are seriously laced with something (okay, probably butter and not crack). My favorite was the Cadbury Oats ‘n’ Chocolate (anybody!?). My second favorite were these two: Digestives Dark Chocolate and Caremels.

Contrary to what the name suggests, they have nothing to do with digestion. I even looked it up on Wikipedia once.

Crack Cookies are a sweetmeal butter biscuit with a layer of chocolate on one side.

My flatmates and I sometimes ate them with Nutella too. Oh yes. We did. You better believe it.

Happy Pot Crack Day! Be back soon.

Aaah digestives…I used to love them! When I was little, it was always an extra treat if my mum bought digestives instead of Rich Tea biscuits <- they are SO dull!!
Good luck with all your work :)

I LOVE “digestive” cookies… I think they’re called “digestives” because of the way they sort of melt to mush in your mouth if you chew for too long…

Also, my mom used to mush them in a little bit of warm milk when I was sick (the plain, non-chocolate ones)… Tastes SOOO good, sort of like a softer, digestive-flavoured version of oatmeal :D

Still loving the blog, Allie! Good luck on all your studying ;)

I read all of the Sopie Kinsella books and she mentions digestive crackers. Now I know what she is talking about. I could never figure it out before.

Allie, really, when you are eating English digestives you should call them biscuits he he… yes, I can sympathise with your exam mode- see how lame my joke was from too much studying? I have 29 hours worth of exams in an 10 day period in a months time… oh my dizzy aunt. Did you ever try hobnobs? Chocolate hobnobs beat digestive biscuits hands down in my opinion (its the oat-y bottom bit). Its a shame I can’t ‘bewitch’ myself and magic some to you. Btw, digestives are so named precisely for their ‘digestive’ properties- I think when they were first concocted- in Victorian times, very little manufactured foods had any wholegrain in them- so fibre= urm, you know, ‘encouragement’ for the bowels. There was a huge nationwide survey to find the Britain’s favourite biscuit to dunk in their afternoon cup of tea- and chocolate digestives won! Most of the British cheesecake bottoms are also made of crushed up digestives too (just FYI?!!)- I order them just to eat that part. Ok, far too much procrastination about biscuits. Back to the books. Good luck with your finals!

Oh yes, I’m still here… I remembered I’d stumbled across some basic recipes when I was trying to veganise Digestive biscuits a few years ago- just in case you might want to try recreating and doing a bit of Allie-fying of them when you’re in the need of some baking therapy ;)

Why on earth would you name a cookie digestives if it had nothing to do with that? How confusing haha.

That nutella pic has me drooling! I miss that stuff, haha! I realize that they sell it here, but it disappears faaaaaar too quickly from my apartment :) When I lived in spain, my flatmates and I would put it on any cookies (or spoons!) we could get our hands on.

Wow, I am so sad right now. For a second I thought these were “healthy” cookies due to the name. Now I am sad. But the cookies and Nutella combo, that just can’t be beat. Can’t!

Aw hun the finish line is near!!! And really, I think a bakery owner will be way more impressed with your sweet skills, and probably even the fact that you went to Duke, and not so much on a few grades. Are those amazing looking cookies almost like Kit Kat tasting in cookie form?
