Auntie Allie’s

I had a dream.

I had a dream two nights ago that I made soft pretzels using pizza dough.

Yes, I have weird dreams. Yes, I dream about food.

IMG_2870.JPG

I fulfilled my dream today by making soft pretzels using TJ’s whole wheat pizza dough. Oh yeah, you can call me Auntie Allie’s!

Pizza Dough Soft Pretzels

Ingredients:

  • pizza dough (whole wheat or regular)
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • cinnamon
  • sugar

Directions:

First, I rolled the dough into long snakes and curled them into pretzels.

IMG_2843.JPG

Next, I lightly brushed the pretzels with egg wash and sprinkled a generous amount of cinnamon sugar on top.

IMG_2848.JPG \

I baked them in the toaster oven for about 10 min. at 350* F.

IMG_2850.JPG

Voila!

IMG_2855.JPG

I made an almond butter sauce to use as a dip as well. I microwaved equal parts almond butter and almond milk and then whisked the combination with a fork.

IMG_2853.JPG

The pretzels tasted very whole wheaty. They weren’t quite as buttery and soft as traditional soft pretzels but I think you can guess why :) .

IMG_2862.JPG

IMG_2886.JPG

***

I also used the TJ’s whole wheat pizza dough to make a mini personal sized pizza.

IMG_2838.JPG

I got the idea to use Tomato & Basil hummus on my pizza when Janetha commented that it tasted like pizza sauce to her. As I mentioned before, the first ingredient is tomatoes, making this hummus very saucy. It only made sense that it would work well as a pizza sauce, among it’s many other functions.

First I rolled out a serving of the pizza dough using my Guinness glass.

IMG_2820.JPG

I baked the dough at 400* F for about 5 min. before topping it with hummus, tomatoes, broccoli, and cheese. I put it back in the toaster oven for another 7 min. or so.

IMG_2821.JPG

IMG_2823.JPG

IMG_2825.JPG

I made a side salad using the hummus as a dressing.

IMG_2832.JPG

2 new uses for this Tomato & Basil Hummus! I’m on a roll.

IMG_2837.JPG

***

Rewind to this morning. I made a wine glass parfait with 2% Greek yogurt, 1/2 a Carrot Ginger Oat Bran Muffin, and frozen banana slices.

IMG_2801.JPG

IMG_2792.JPG

IMG_2789.JPG

With some 72% decaf coffee.

IMG_2799.JPG

IMG_2800.JPG

I had the rest of the muffin a little later with a blob of almond butter.

IMG_2810.JPG

Workout: 58 min. elliptical; 2 min. jumping jacks; 10 min. arm weights

Afterwards I had a Berry Wheatgrass Smoothie

IMG_2815.JPG

IMG_2816.JPG

Then I laid out by the pool for about an hour to catch some rays, relax, enjoy the weather, and read my book.

IMG_2819.JPG

Sun now, Pay later?

I actually haven’t spent much time under the sun this summer because I’m terrified of getting wrinkly, saggy skin! I tanned quite a bit in high school (often without sunscreen!!!) and I’m afraid it’s gonna come back to haunt me when I’m older! Eeps!!

Tell me: Do you live for the sun or avoid the sun? What are your favorite pizza toppings?

Anyways, I hope you’ve enjoyed my [pizza] doughy Friday.

Love,

Auntie Allie

PS Have a great 4th of July Weekend my fellow Americans :)

Auntie Allie’s! Love it! What if you used pretzel dough to make pizza? I heard pretzel rolls make bomb sandwiches!

Haha, who doesn’t dream about food?!?! :) LoL

I’ve always wanted to make my own soft pretzels but the idea of using yeast scares me. Don’t most pretzel recipes call for yeast?

oh that pretzel idea is genius!

I try pretty hard to wear a high SPF a lot – I’ve been learning more about serious it is not to take care of your skin and that the long-term effects aren’t worth a week of a good tan!

I love sweet pretzels, too, over savory ones. :D

Now you just need a way to sneak your hummus into your breakfasts! However, I’m not all too convinced that hummus + yogurt + bananas in a sweet brekkie would work as well?

I avoid the sun at all costs. I’m so fair-skinned that I burn to a crisp right away. Plus, I got a *slight* sunburn two weeks ago and I’m just now starting to recover from it. Ouch.

Great ideas with the Tj’s pizza dough. I love that dough and hadn’t thought of other ways to use it.

Those pretzels look yummy! I have super fair, freckly Irish skin so I’m pretty paranoid about bathing in SPF 70, but I looove the beach & lay out as much as possible :)

Genius, woman! Did you use TJ’s dough, by chance?
I avoid the sun, because I am a pasty princess (in case you haven’t noticed).
Favorite pizza toppings=tofu, broccoli, and pineapple.

I love the sun, but I ALWAYS wear sunscreen. I am very fair, and I’ll burn if I don’t wear it. I also don’t want wrinkles any sooner than is necessary….lol. I try to good care of my skin now in the hopes that it’ll pay off later! :)

Beautiful looking hummus pizza and Auntie Allie’s pretzels, btw. Yummmm….

I don’t tan intentionally but I don’t avoid the sun, either. I think I should start using my sunscreen… I don’t want to be saggy and sun-damaged when I’m older, either!

Your soft pretzels look sooooo good. And only a 10 minute bake? It actually sounds like quite a yummy breakfast option ;)

Love the pretzel idea. Funny enough, Ashley (Edible Perspective) just made some too. Your parfait is beautiful & 72% decaf, hah – love it.

I did not grow up in a sunny climate, so I don’t think I crave it as much as people who do. I am afraid of making my skin uglier than it is from sun damage and do NOT want skin cancer. However, tanning by the pool is addicting once ya start…

I’m a total shade person! I used to go out in the sun when I was 13-14 years old and I would get a nice tan. When I was 15 I got my first summer job and I just never really went outside! Now I find that the sun makes me too warm so I tend to stick to the shade. :)

My favourite pizza toppings are bbq sauce (instead of tomato sauce), honey ham, pineapple, green pepper, mushrooms, and cheddar cheese! It is my go-to combination for pizza toppings. :)

I am so freakishly pale so I avoid the sun..but then I don’t tan…it’s a vicious circle!! And it’s super annoying – I’m outside loads, but I’m always covered in riding clothes, so the sun never touches my legs! Tres frustrating :/
I don’t like pizza….:p The pretzels look SO lovely though!

That was an awesome idea to make those pretzels! I wish I got food inspiration from my dreams like that!

I used to love lying out in the sun and tanning! Nowadays I don’t avoid the sun but I don’t intentionally tan either. And I always I wear SPF 30 if I’m going to be outside. I want to keep my skin looking young for as long as possible. :D

Hah, cool idea with the pretzels! I should invest in a toaster oven. It looks cool.

I live for the sun. Ridiculously… I’m so sun-oriented! I spend at least 2-3 hours everyday outside basking in it. I physically feel like I cannot get enough sun! It just makes me so happy. I remember the first really sunny day of spring back in March (when it was still sooooo cold!), I laid down on the railing of our deck (as close to the sun as I could physically get without bothering to climb on the roof) and just basked for 7 HOURS! It felt so good. I think that was the day my long stretch of cloudy/cold winter depression ended. :]

Those pretzels look yummy! I remember the first time making homemade pretzels back when I was realllly young..I know this probably wasn’t your first time making them, but it brought back that memory :) As for the sun, I only sit out and tan to correct the horrible tan lines I get from sports outdoors. So I guess you can say I tan a lot? but not on purpose most of the time lol

Love the pool, I wish we had one too. It’s so HOT in here at the moment :) but I’m not complaining, I can afford to because this country is very very very cold for the majority of the year.

Your minipizza is very cute :)

I love the sun but am pretty religious about sunscreen. Except that lately I haven’t had time to spend by the pool and since I would like to have a healthy glow for my wedding, I haven’t been as strict as usual with the sunscreen the couple of times I’ve been outside, except for my face.

For pizza toppings I love tons and tons of sauce with mozzarella, another good cheese like goat or feta, and tons and tons of veggies.

P.S. I have those same yellow and white place mats! :)

Those pizzas look delicious! Love that you got creataive with the pretzels too.
I still will go to the beach once in a while and tan, often without sunscreen. I know it’s not really smart, but I just can’t be bothered.

Maybe you’ll make those pretzels and the dipping sauce in your future bakery with the Allie bars?! Oh the sun. I love it, but yes, I already have wrinkles on my forehead! :( And I’m 23! I am much, much better about not laying out like I used to, and since last summer I started using 2 dif. brands of natural sunscreen which work great. Just ignore the fact that 2 weeks ago I was laying out by my friends pool to get rid of my tan lines for the wedding I was in and said tan lines turned bright red. Oops. Never again…

Went to TJ’s today and got some of that whole wheat pizza dough, and made pretzels! Thanks for the inspiration! It was really hard for me to get the dough to form long snakes (very very elastic) so the best I could do was circles…which turned into lumps…Oh well, I’m not taking photos of them! They were FABULOUS. I didn’t have any almond butter for dipping (that would have been ideal!!), but had some honey cinnamon butter from the local farmer’s market, and that was an awesome topping, too. Oh pretzels, I <3 you.
