Lightning Fast

When you have something delicious in your possession that you love and adore, do you savor it and eat it slowly? Or do you eat it up lightning fast because it is constantly calling out to you from the kitchen?

For me, it is the latter. I tend to eat up my favorite foods until they are finished for no other reason than that I want it and there ain’t no sense in saving it for later.

I mean, what if the world comes to an end or a burglar breaks into our house and steals my muffin off the kitchen counter? The horror.

***

It probably comes at no surprise that the Carrot Ginger Muffins went lightning fast. Next victim? Berry Mango Bran Muffin (also from Trader Joe’s).

IMG_2995.JPG

I’ve gotten these once in the past. I love these muffins because they have a bran-y, flax-y texture. They are soft yet hearty, super moist, and their ingredient list is unbeatable.

(Oh and what’s with people hating the word ‘moist?’ Am I missing something?)

IMG_2987.JPG

I’ve been eating these straight outta the box…

IMG_2990.JPG

…in parfait form….

(layered with 2% Greek yogurt and blueberries)

….and warmed up in the microwave with a drizzle of Sunflower Seed Butter.

Speaking of which…

IMG_3008.JPG

It’s been several weeks since I’ve had this jar of salty goodness in my possession–probably because I can polish it off lightning fast.

I say this as I am spooning it into my mouth, literally, right now.

I think this might be my favorite nut/seed butter of all time. I can eat this by the spoonful….like it’s ice cream or sumthin.’

***

I’ve been dipping all sorts of goodies into the jar:

Frozen bananas…

Dates….

Oh and drizzled over homemade tart froyo.

Reunited and it feels oh so so good.

***

Yesterday, at the new house I snacked on some raw okra and broccoli with Tomato & Basil Hummus.

IMG_3066.JPG

My Momma is head over heels about this homemade tart froyo. She can polish off her bowl lightning fast, that’s for sure! Guess which one is her’s? :)

Workout: 60 min. elliptical and arm weights

I made Protein Ice Cream/Faux Frosty for the first time last night after seeing it on a few blogs. I used Janetha’s recipe for my inspiration.

IMG_3074.JPG

  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 scoop Alive! Shake (protein powder/greens/fruit)
  • 1 tsp xanthan gum (too much!! It was a lil’ on the goopy side!)
  • 1 T cocoa powder
  • cinnamon
  • stevia
  • 1/2 cup decaf coffee, chilled
  • ice

Because I was using my Magic Bullet, I blended everything together first, then added crushed ice, then blended again.

IMG_3076.JPG

It was a tad goopy because I used a pinch too much xanthan gum. It sure was refreshing though and it made for a perfect protein-packed post-workout treat.

This went lightning fast.

What gets devoured lightning fast in your kitchen?

Almond milk! I use a french press in the morning to brew my own espresso and it’s perfect with almond milk!

Right now, I eat watermelon like its my JOB.

I LOVE that faux frosty!!
‘Moist’ reminds me of dirty sponges and gross things…I can see why it’s hated :P
As for favourite foods, I tend to savour them and make them last :)

Veggies and fruit gets eaten super fast in our house… we can never get enough! I love your almost-collage about the sunflower seed butter – it sounds sooooo good! And those muffins – ahhh, TJ’s! I wish I could get some :(

I like how the muffin serving is for “1/2 muffin” – who eats only half a muffin? I know I don’t ;)

Chocolate and any kind of baked goods go super fast in my house!

bahahahah “moist!” I was watching a VH1 show about 100 things men do that make them ‘undatable,’ and one of those things was saying the word “moist.” I think they said the only time it was appropriate was to describe a cake or muffin, so you’re good! I SO wish we had a TJs here because I’ve seen those muffins on your blog before and they look amazing! Hope all is well, Allie!

I couldn’t agree more with your love of TJ’s sunflower seed butter. It is the best thing EVER!! I love it on sweet potatoes. Sounds weird, but it is delicious.

Other things that go lighting fast in my house? DATES, I can do some serious damage with those things.

Lastly I never understood the ‘moist’ thing either, very weird to me.

I always end up making my shakes goopy because of the gums, ahaha woops! They’re still amazing though :) super cool for summaaa!

I love TJ’s muffins, I wish they’d make more gluten free ones :( I miss em! That parfait looks amazing – and the muffin perfectly paired with sunflower seed butter too. Trader Joe’s is prettymuch a miracle for foodies, right?

Enjoy the sunshine :)

Hahaha. I have a friend who HATES the word moist, so now whenever I hear it, I tend to cringe! :) Those berry mango muffins from TJ’s are delightful – love them!

i’ve been lurking a little bit, but now i’m de-lurking.
i love your blog!
:D

pretty much everythaaang goes fast in my kitchen. greek yogurt (when i get my hands on it), peanut butter puffins, snap peas and mini peppers are all hot commodities.
i don’t think anything makes it into my mouth as fast as oatmeal cookies though. i have this thing with cookies, specifically chewy toasty brown sugary ones.
hmmm. i’ve never really considered trying sun butter, but you’re making it sound pretty tasty.
it will happen.

Amen on that Sunbutter from TJs! I was truly distraught about not being able to get more after my move to Texas…but in some ways, perhaps this is a good thing? (I do, thankfully, have one unopened jar…which I am hesitant to open due to the eventual moment it ends…)

Berries!

I always buy a lot of fresh fruits and veggies but usually all berries don’t stand a chance, especially eaten while watching tv .. hehe!

Oh and Ice Cream, but that’s a whole other story ;)

Pepper turkey has about a .5 second lifespan in my house, along with Greek yogurt and wraps. And seltzer. We go through seltzer like no one should!

15 Kaz July 6, 2010 at 3:27 pm

Any time I make homemade nut butters, they don’t stand a chance. I made a huge batch of chocolate peanut butter a week or so ago, and there’s just scrapings on the bottom of the jar now. xD

Yeah, moist is just…dirty. Skeeves me out for some unidentifiable reason. -shudder- It’s just, I can only think of one thing that is good as moist: baked goods. Everything else is somehow just plain unsanitary. =P

16 Olivia R. July 6, 2010 at 3:54 pm

carrots. Yes, carrots.
Well other than that, I’d say peanut butter goes fast. Also bananas because I am constantly freezing them to make banana soft serve! But I actually hate bananas plain, unfrozen. Only in things and frozen.
Grapes go fast, and so does hummus.

Nut butters are devoured absurdly fast in my kitchen along with most fresh produce! I’m a produce queen.

Anything I bake usually goes pretty quickly :) (and I’m mostly responsible for that). What can I say? I love baking, and it’s all so delicious. Don’t wanna deny myself!

If I was a burglar, I’d definitely go straight for the kitchen and look for muffins. Or cookies, either one. ;) and it’s so cool you were able to make protein ice cream in the magic bullet!! All I’ve heard is that you need a strong processor so I havent tried in fears of killing my bullet. Thanks for the tips, though! Now I know :)

I’m the latter too haha. Speaking of gobbling things up I love, I think it’s time for another round of bars?! I LOVE sunflower butter. I have never bought it, but received it as a sample from a race and was like “omg, this is amazing”.

Peanut butter. But living in Mozambique when I get something cool I HOARD it because I am scared that it will disappear and I will never see it again. So now I have this stash of muffin mixes, pancake mix, dried fruit, nutella, nuts, hot chocolate and oatmeal packets, etc. that I have been saving because I didnt want the sadness of running out, but now that I only have a few months left I guess I should start eating them…

I love shopping at Trader Joe’s but I have not tried those muffins and I certainly did even think about all the possibilities with them! I will give it a try. Also, love and appreciate all your photography. I am new at it but I am really enjoying photography these days.

I’m getting better at making my jars of nut butters last but I still struggle with the cereal boxes… I think I’ll stop buying them all the time and just buy a small one when I have a craving for cold cereals.

The protein ice cream looks yummy! I need to put xanthan gum on my next grocery list! :)

Aren’t those muffins great? I haven’t had them in a while. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the carrot ginger ones. Sounds like the best flavor!

Lately I’ve been going through fruit like crazy! There’s so much delicious summer fruit in the fridge that I’m afraid it’s going to go bad, and end up eating huge bowls of it. And then it is gone.

I don’t tend to savour food nearly as often as I should. Raspberries disappear within minutes of purchase sometimes. Dark chocolate too. And most salty snacks which is why I try not to have them there at all!

The word moist only bothers me when annoying people use it, which is probably silly (don’t worry, you’re not one of them!). I really hate the word firm when it refers to anything but food, too…

Chocolate bars are gone within a day at my house. I have a raging addiction, and my parents always like to steal it from me too! Hope you’re having a great week so far!

Ok, so I just got all caught up!!! I seriously can’t wait to make the tart fro yo, especially since we don’t have any fro yo places within 30 minutes of here. So, the sunflower seed butter. I bought it. Thought I sorta kinda liked it. Decided I definitely did not. I don’t know what it is! Maybe because I look at it and expect it to taste like peanut butter, then it just freaks me out and tastes nothing like it. Because almond butter looks different, and I love that stuff. I ended up giving it to my inlaws, so I wonder what happened with it! I’m like you, though, I totally devour yummy snacks, especially new ones! I don’t think my TJ’s has the carrot muffins, but we do have the bran and berry. I’ll be looking again on my next trip there!

Erika–
I like the Alive! powder because it has pea protein (no whey, no soy) and a good amount of fruit and veggies too. I can taste it a little bit. Try getting a small packet just to try it, if you can find it.
