Super-sized Kale Smoothie

IMG_3937.JPG

….this should be on the Mickey D’s menu!

I was going to go with raw kale this morning but I chickened out when I realized there was no way my Magic Bullet could handle these leaves.

IMG_3933.JPG

So, I popped ‘em in the microwave for about 45 seconds, just to get them slightly steamed.

IMG_3934.JPG

The Super-Sized Ingredients:

  • 4 strawberies
  • 1/2 frozen banana
  • 1 scoop wheatgrass
  • 1 cup kale
  • 1/2 cup plain 1% yogurt
  • 1/2 cup almond milk
  • xanthan + guar gum
  • stevia and ice

IMG_3939.JPG

IMG_3941.JPG

I topped it with some AllieBar crumbles, duh.

IMG_3940.JPG

IMG_3945.JPG

Nice work, Magic B.!

“The power of a glance has been so much abused in love stories, that it has come to be disbelieved in. Few people dare now to say that two beings have fallen in love because they have looked at each other. Yet it is in this way that love begins, and in this way only.”

“Maybe it’s more like you said before, all of us being cracked open, like, each of us starts out as a watertight vessel, and these things happen, these people leave us, or don’t love us, or don’t get us, or we don’t get them, and we lose and fail and hurt one another. And the vessel starts to crack open in places, and I mean, yeah, once the vessel cracks open, the end becomes inevitable, once it starts to rain inside the Osprey, it will never be remodeled, but there is all this time between when the cracks start to open up and when we finally fall apart, and it’s only in that time that we can see one another, because we see out of ourselves through our cracks, and into others through theirs. When did we see each other face to face? Not until you saw into my cracks, and I saw into yours. Before that, we were just looking at ideas of each other, like looking at your window shade, but never seeing inside. But once the vessel cracks, the light can get in. The light can get out.”

My favorite quote is “Do or do not, there is no try” Yes it is a quote from Yoda, but it is so true. Why “try” something when you could actually give you best and succeed. “Trying” to me is accepting failure as a possible result.

I just wanted to say that yours is the most soothing blog I’ve ever lurked (though I guess I’m no longer lurking… hooray!). I’ve only recently developed a healthy relationship with food, and I’m still working on being honest about my fears and issues with myself and my family, and this place really helps remind me to stop trying to do it alone. Something about the overall aesthetic and your photography… I don’t know, every time I start feeling neurotic and restrictive, I look at your grub and think “oh yeah, food is yummy… and preeetttty…” It helps more than I’m able to express right now, believe you me.

Anyway, I don’t eat steak, but I’ve always loved this quote:

“Cloquet hated reality but realized it was still the only place to get a good steak.”

Take the days, just one at a time.
Count your blessings, not your troubles.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. it is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. Corinthians

One of my favorite quotes:

“When you’re experiencing peace, it’s coming from within you, you’re ‘doing’ peace. And this is true of anything else you might be looking for. Love, happiness, contentment, well-being come from within. Nothing external needs to change for you to have what you want…..If you want to be happier – be happier. If you want to be more relaxed – relax. If you want more friends – be friendly. Sounds simple. It is.”

happiness is a journey, not a destination. for a long time it seemed to me that life was about to begin – real life. but there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, a debt to be paid. at last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life. this perspective has helped me to see there is no way to happiness. happiness is the way. so treasure every moment you have and remember that time waits for no one.

“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, the education, the money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company… a church… a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past… we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you… we are in charge of our Attitudes.”
