Food Baby to Food Coma

Oof. I write to you tonight with a big ol’ food baby. The sex has been confirmed…it’s gonna be a healthy baby carrot cake! We had a feast tonight at Peter’s Kitchen–read on for the deets!

This afternoon we headed to Costco to fill up on samples stock up on some grub.

Picture 12.png

I didn’t have time to eat a large breakfast so by the time we arrived, I was pretty hungry. As a result, I sampled my heart out.

Samples offered today:

  • falafel w/ Sabra hummus
  • edamame dip w/ pita chips
  • apple strudel
  • sweet bread w/ butter
  • 1/2 an ice cream bar (so generous!)
  • cherries
  • too much to remember!

I practically ate the equivalent of a whole meal there!

***

We stocked up on:

Pecans, fresh apricots, blueberries, Greek yogurt…

IMG_4086.JPG

DATES!!!! and a pineapple

IMG_4087.JPG

Spring mix and mini pepz!

IMG_4088.JPG

I had a bowl of blueberries after we got back home–they’re monstrous.

IMG_4092.JPG

As well as some a lot of dates with almond butter.

IMG_4094.JPG

Mmmmm! I guess date rehab is over. I didn’t last long, huh?

IMG_4096.JPG

When we got back, I kept debating whether or not I wanted to workout. I knew that if I went I would feel more energized and hungry for dinner (since I had spoiled my appetite with dates). BUT after an hour of debating I decided to just let it go.

Plus, I conned my mom into walking to TJ’s with me in the 95* heat instead. You’ll see why…

Dinner was a cookout/BBQ/feast at Peter’s Kitchen.

I prepared a salad for everyone to share. Toppings included avocado, hearts of palm, goat cheese, and mini peppers.

Also on the menu….

Chicken Breast

IMG_4131.JPG

Filet mignon and chicken sausages

IMG_4132.JPG

Peter also made a side of potatoes.

IMG_4125.JPG

IMG_4134.JPG

Post dinner we broke out the magical froyo machine!

IMG_4137.JPG

TJ’s fiiiiiiinally had European Style yogurt back in stock. <–provides the tartness

IMG_4135.JPG

Homemade tart frozen yogurt and Butter Pecan Ice Cream for ALL! I had about 1/2 cup of each topped with sliced strawberries.

IMG_4140.JPG

More dessert?? My brother brought over a carrot cake from Wegman’s.

IMG_4144.JPG

This was surprisingly good and that’s saying something because I have high carrot cake standards!

I’m very picky about my carrot cake. I don’t like the fluffy/cakey kind. I like dense, thick, and moist carrot cake. I must admit, this was pretty darn good coming from a grocery store.

IMG_4145.JPG

…I would know. I had about 1/3 of the entire cake! It wasn’t exactly a full-sized cake, but my piece was still BIG (yes, bigger than what’s shown above).

I definitely overdid it a little in the dessert/sweets department tonight but hey, I haven’t had carrot cake in forever and it was good! You gotta live a little sometimes right? I might have a slight tummy ache though :( .

Nothing a food coma can’t fix!

Gosh, don’t you LOVE Costco!!! I buy almost all of my produce there :-) I think they have some of the best and most affordable produce around! And I thought I was one of the only ones addicted to dates with Almond Butter!!! Glad I have a partner in crime :-)

I think I have a food baby as well – of brown sugar wafer rolls, peanut butter, and cocoa puffs. I hate binging.

I had a food baby last night too – a spaghetti one! Maybe our babies could be friends!?
Sometimes, it’s worth having a food baby for such yummy food :)

Woohoo for Costco! I love buying massive bags of dried fruit and almonds from there and knowing they’ll last forever. Or at least for a week or two. ;)

That carrot cake looks scrumptious! It’s been way too long since I’ve had carrot cake too!

Carrot cake is my favorite too…it’s actually a tie between carrot cake and white chocolate cake (YUM!!!)…and thanks for reminding me that I DO have a Costco card and I SHOULD use it. I haven’t been in soooo long!

I’m not surprised a Wegmans carrot cake didn’t disappoint. What a great place that is!

I love how your Costco purchases are pretty much replicas of mine. (How excited was I to find out they are selling Total Fage?)

I’m also pretty sure I made that exact same salad with the mini-peppers and hearts of palm (from Costco, of course) the other day.

Your blog is like a mirror….except of what I WISH my food and pictures looked like all the time. :)

And there was no carrot cake in my life, unfortunately.

Oh goodness i don’t know how you only ate 1/3 of the cake…i would of kept coming back until i ate the whole thing!! -> i ate almost my entire 21st bday cake…Forget the booze, hit me up with some sugah! :)

I think I could eat an entire carrot cake on my own — and I’m not picky about them either, I have never not liked a piece of carrot cake yet!

Samples at Costco or Sam’s are the best and it is almost a full meal! Those little peppers are too cute!

I used to eat “lunch” at Costco, all the time, and by lunch, I would befriend the food sample people and have them slip me entire portions of samples. xD

All that food looks wonderful! That salad is so pretty.

Mmm, I went into a carrot cake induced food coma not too long ago, and it was probably the best sleep I had in a long while. ;) Carrot cake is definitely one of my favorites, too, and I agree: it must be dense, not dry, and slathered delicious frosting.

Hey Allie,

I know how much you love Carrot Cake! So here is a recipe I thought that you might like to try. ;) For breakfast on Friday Whit and I made Carrot Cake Pancakes! They were awesome. I do not know if I have ever seen you make pancakes on your blog, but this might be a cool recipe for you to try!

I’m obsessed with Costco. The huge containers of Sabra and falafel balls? Makes me so happy.

Um, let’s not talk about overdoing dessert. Last night I’m pretty sure I sent myself into a sugar coma. Good dessert is always worth it, though, especially in carrot cake form :)

Hope you’ve had a great weekend!
