Scrubba Dub Dub

This morning was spent cleaning up my room, bathroom and kitchen floor because I have a guest coming today for a short visit (she’s been on the blog before….long ago!).

Two things I have to say about that:

1) There is no bigger motivation to clean than the arrival of a guest. I was scrubbing down my bathroom as if it had been neglected for months. Not that it had been….I said as IF it had been. Yeah.

2) How the heck do I still have hair on my head?! And a lot of hair too. I swear I shed more than any species on this Earth, Labrador Retrievers included.

IMG_6646.JPG

Beautimous, huh? Just don’t zoom in too closely :) .

**

Okay, I have one more thing to say about cleaning. Who would’ve thought, right?

I used these homemade glass + surface cleaners (Three Citrus + Lemon Lavender) that I got in my YumUniverse Launch Party goodie bag. It’s made with all natural and organic ingredients and made everything *sparkle.*

IMG_6651.JPG

Ingredients: Organic white vinegar, organic lemon rind, organic lavender, organic lemon an/or lavender oil.

You can make your own too. Here’s how:

Fill glass jar halfway, or almost full, with lemon rind. Add 2-3 Tbsp lavender. Fill jar with organic white vinegar. Seal and soak for 3 weeks. Strain. Use and be amazed. <–their words, not mine.

The scent of vinegar lingers for a bit but I’d much rather use vinegar than harmful chemicals!

***

I made a Strawberry Lemonade Protein Green Smoothie to get me energized to scrubba dub dub.

IMG_6629.JPG

(don’t be fooled by the angle of the shot…this glass is a biggie)

I used the same ingredients–protein powder and energizing green powder–as the first time. However, I left out the yogurt today.

IMG_6631.JPG

I used extra ice  this time to make it super voluminous and refreshing. This protein powder sure makes smoothies F-R-O-T-H-Y! I had to grab a 2nd Magic Bullet cup because the smoothie kept growing and growing!

Kinda like Jack’s Beanstalk, if you will.

IMG_6627.JPG

You can really see that beach chair I was referring to in my last post :) .

***

Of course, some Chunky Monkey Granola.

IMG_6635.JPG

Hmmm where did all the pecans, chocolate chips and banana chips go?

IMG_6641.JPG

…don’t look at me!!

I think we’re gonna have to consult the detectives working on The Case of the Missing Bread :) .

Workout: 50 min. elliptical + 15 min. incline walking +15 min. upper body strength training

Post workout: With dinner only an hour away, I kept my post workout snack on the light side…and high in protein to rebuild my muscles.

Arnold Sandwich Thin with scrambled egg whites, smoked salmon, and tomatoes on my new Relax plate.

Smoked salmon is not cheap, so I usually get the small TJ’s 3 oz. pack and use it for two different meals/snax. I’m still working on those bargain grape tomatoes. I’m amazed they’re still fresh.

IMG_6656.JPG

When I got out to my dining spot, I noticed it was directly in the sun. See?

IMG_6660.JPG

As I mentioned in my last post, it makes for very harsh lighting.

IMG_6659.JPG

Thus, I transfered my photography spot to a shadier section of the balcony.

IMG_6663.JPG

Ahhh much better. It even makes for a no-chair-needed Bird’s Eye View shot.

IMG_6668.JPG

Thanks for the reminder to relax, dear plate!

IMG_6669.JPG

I microwaved the egg whites in a bowl for 45 seconds and voila! an egg white patty. It doesn’t get any easier/simpler/faster that that, my friends.

IMG_6675.JPG IMG_6678.JPG

I was sent these Arnold Sandwich Thins as part of the Foodbuzz Tastemaker Program.

IMG_6649.JPG

My dad has been gobbling these up faster than you can say ‘sandwich thin.’ He likes them a lot and uses them to make peanut butter sandwiches almost every morning. Funny since he is all about hearty bread. I wonder if he knows they are 100 calories :) .

Note: I was also sent the multi-grain flavor but my dad ate them ALL before I could photograph them!

As for me, I think they are just okay. I like doughier bread so the thinness of it isn’t that appealing to me. The taste is pretty standard for whole wheat bread. If anything, it has a softer texture, which I like. In the end, it makes for a good round sandwich bread/bun.

2do 2nite:

At 8pm there is a Cold Matters Twitter Party to celebrate the launch of their new series. You can participate using the #ThermosCold hashtag. Sadly, I won’t be there [virtually] since we are going out to dinner.

Tell me: What kind of cleaners do you use in your house?

Okay, off to eat and play with my GUESTIE!!

Do you use a hood on your lens? It definitely helps cut back on that harsh glare the comes from direct sunlight.

Agh, I can totally relate to the large volume of hair on the bathroom floor. Tomorrow has been designated as a cleaning day, and I shudder to think how much I’ll find.
As we all know, I always pick out the goodies from granola too:)

Agreed- NOTHING motivates a good scrub down than guests coming. Except..no matter how spotless I make things, my mom still finds stuff to clean whenever she visits. Typical, huh? :P

I love smoked salmon..but yes, it’s so expensive! And for that reason it’s reserved for visits home. That sandwich looks absolutely delicious though!

Have fun with your guest :)

Sarah–
No, I don’t use a hood. I guess I could look into it! There’s so much gear to buy. Oh boy oh boy.

Ugh, I feel the same way when I clean the bathroom. I feel like my hair gets EVERYWHERE. It looks good, though!! Your friend will be impressed. haha

Yes, the hair thing is baffling to me. I’ve dug so much out of the shower drain I’m shocked I have any left on my head. Especially combined with what I pick up off the floor after I dry my hair…ah!

My mom uses vinegar to clean our counters, but it always makes them smell after! I like the idea of adding lemon and lavender so that the smell of the vinegar isn’t so harsh.

Ugh I shed like a dog too. I’m surprised I’m not bald yet! :P

I’ve been loving your posts recently!! I must say, I don’t really pay attention to what I use to clean my house. Lysol wipes are a Godsend though…I use them on EVERYTHING!!

I use vinegar/lemon juice/water for my cleaner too — I also use baking soda on my stove top and in the bathrooms. They work well!

I love your “relax” plate — so adorable.

I don’t like the Arnold Thins — I’m with your dad on liking “hearty” bread — I like the big crusty loaves and the Thins just taste odd to me.

I know! My wish list is longer than my gear list! But in all seriousness, the hood makes a huge differences – I shoot a lot of botanicals, and the hood has helped so much.

I actually bought a really inexpensive one – http://www.amazon.com/Zeikos-ZE-LH58-58mm-Soft-Rubber/dp/B0029Z9QIQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1279073897&sr=1-1 – when you zoom all the way out you can see the edge of the hood in your photographs, but I’m usually zoomed in when I would need it anyway.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Have fun with your guest. I hate food photography sometimes, it’s such a tricky business. Often no lighting in my house works at all for good pictures!!

Is the protein powder you used Whey protein? Whey protein expands a ton when you blend it!!

Allyson–
Yep! Whey. I love the expansion :)

Mackenzie–
Homegoods.

Erika–
Haha I know…I talk A LOT. I swear every post is like 3 wrapped up into 1. I’m trying to get better at being less wordy :)

Sarah–
Thanks! Do you know if you can still see the edge of the hood if you are using a non-zoomable lens (I know, so professional sounding)?

Thanks for the cleaning recipe! I have been searching for a lavender scented cleaner, since I’m obsessed with lavender. :)

I really want to try your cleaning product recipe. We use a lot of lysol products and I’m afraid we’re killing too much bacteria. I’ve read that if you kill everything, you might be getting rid of the good bacteria too.

I have the same issue with my hair. I need to sweep every time I dry it. I find clumps of my hair everywhere too…like in the washer and dryer from my clothes. Gross right? It’s like I have an endless supply of hair.
