Nut Butter Hangover

I got a little too excited about my new nut butters yesterday. I should have put them away after Round 1. Instead, I sat next to them at the kitchen table as I blogged. Danger danger. My pesky little finger/spoon (okay, fork) went back for more and more mindless scoops.

IMG_6971.JPG

I had absolutely no desire for anything else sweet for the rest of the night….or anything at all for that matter (isn’t it crazy how filling nut butter is?). I rarely burn out my sweet teeth but they were awfully exhausted by the end of last night’s nut butter-fest.

I didn’t eat any nut butter for an entire week because we ran out. I suppose my body/mind/soul missed it dearly…?

(How I lived the first 20 years of my life without nutz/nut butter is completely beyond all comprehension)

Picture 11.png

I actually started eating Justin’s almond butter over 2 years ago. Fact: I brought 20 squeeze packs with me to London (study abroad) and savored every morsel.

Imagine if I had started my blog back in August 2008 (!!). I desperately wanted to start a food + fitness blog since I had been reading them for several months by that point but I just never got around to it. I did start a silly little blog that focused on my travels in London. It was mostly just to show friends and family my adventures…and photos of the massive London Whole Foods!

Guess what my blog was called? :)

***

This morning I had 1/2 of a Chocolate Chip Brownie Larabar and 1/2 an AllieBar as my pre-workout snack.

IMG_6946.JPG

I loved the real chocolate chips inside. Check out the massive nutz!

IMG_6943.JPGIMG_6941.JPG

I got in a sweaty betty workout to cure my nut butter hangover:

  • 26 min. run
  • 22 min. incline walk
  • 20 min. elliptical
  • 10 min. arm weights

My post workout meal had to be FAST because I was rushing out the door to go to the dreaded DMV.

I quickly made an egg white veggie wrap with Laughing Cow cheese spring mix and tomatoes + a side of Chobani Pineapple 2%.

IMG_6950.JPG IMG_6954.jpg

Microwaving egg whites from a carton is a lot less scary than egg whites from eggs. Carton whites don’t *pop*!!

IMG_6948.JPGIMG_6958.JPG

Mmmmmmm!

IMG_6961.JPG IMG_6965.JPG

I needed this table to be larger, so I used my firm placemat and then put the flimsy one I wanted to use on top.

Magic.

IMG_6963.JPG

Actually this was the real magic…

The Chobani Fairy saw that I bought some Plain Chobani last month and asked if I wanted a free sample (FTC disclaimer!) of their other flavors.

IMG_6928.JPG

Do I want free Greek yogurt?

Is the sky blue?

Does Paula Deen use butter?

IMG_6929.JPG

I am not one to refuse Greek yogurt.

Dairy sensitivity or not.

IMG_6931.JPG

‘Twas like Christmas morning!

IMG_6934.JPG

I love when shipments come with these reusable ice packs! Perfect for my shins and hip.

IMG_6932.JPG

I usually don’t buy flavored yogurt because of the higher sugar content so I’ve only ever tried the plain, pineapple and pomegranate flavors. Instead of syrup/fruit on the bottom, I like to customize plain yogurt with fresh fruit and honey/agave/stevia. My body most definitely needed sugar (and protein) post workout today so this was perfect. The pineapple flavor was as good as I remembered it! Greek yogurt is creamilicious ‘n’ delicious, especially 2%.

I am eager to try the other flavors!!

IMG_6935.JPG

***

I had to dash off to the DMV with my dad so I brought along the other half of the Larabar.

IMG_6940.JPG

Enter: 3 1/2 hours of sitting and waiting.

***

Upon walking in the door, I made a gigantic smoothie with 1/2 AllieBar crumbles.

IMG_6973.JPG

.
Most of it sunk to the bottom…

.
IMG_6976.JPG
(whey protein, wheatgrass, strawberries, bananas, spinach)

.
I also had a piece of toast with my new nut butters and banana slices.

.
IMG_6982.JPG IMG_6978.JPG

.
I just ate some veggies and shrimp from Peter’s Kitchen.

.
IMG_6986.JPG

.
…and dug into 1/2 a carrot cake Larabar and a scoop of Barney Butter. I’m storing them in my closet though so I have to walk at least 7 seconds to reach my stash :) .

IMG_6985.JPG

.
Plus some cantaloupe.

.
IMG_6994.JPG

.
Alright, this Clutter Queen has some packing to do!

Tell me: What’s your favorite flavor yogurt?

.
I grew up loving strawberry banana and vanilla.

I love your slice of toast with both kinds of nut butter — I would have had 2 pieces of toast, one nut butter on each slice. Did I mention I have no self control when it comes to nut butter? :)

The DMVs in MN must be way different than other states, I have never had to wait more than 1/2 hour, and that only happened because I was getting my passport — any DL related stuff goes so quick here. ?

Hey Allie!
I loved Chobani as well, but it was a bit too much sugar for me :-) I was also a strawberry banana girl, but one weird flavor that I absolutely loved was coffee flavored yogurt by Dannon! Amazing!

Chobani is so kind to provide you with a great sampling! I love Chobani and adore the Pineapple but I think Vanilla will always be my favorite. It’s just sweet enough to make it feel like yogurt and not sour cream but not too sweet to feel like it’s more of a dessert.

Enjoy your night! :)

I just tried Justin’s hazelnut butter today for the firs time and girl… i totally understand! I only had 1 small squeeze pack of it though :( Sadness.

SO JEALOUS of the yogurt! The pineapple chobani is definately my favorite flavored but I love plain 2% Fage.. so creamy!

Oh goodness. That Justin’s Chocolate Hazelnut Butter is absolutely dangerous. I won 12 packets of it from a blog giveaway a few weeks ago and I TORE through that supply. No joke!

I’ve never really liked yogurts in China, but I love plain Greek yogurt. I love putting a little jam or honey on top… and I confess that I eat nut butters with a fork, too. You’re among friends here ;)

Hey Allie!

I’ve been reading your blog for a while now but never commented. I studied abroad in London too and was obsessed with that whole foods! Mmm I’m getting hungry just thinking about it. Also saw the pic of the Florance market. Which market is that? I’m going to Italy next week (ahh so excited to eat everything in sight). Any recomendations?

Good luck with your packing!!

Fav yogurt is banana, but only if it is the safeway store brand. I fell for it when I lived in cali and now that I’m back in the south…no safeway, no yogurt! The yoplait banana cream pie its the only nana flav yogurt I can find here and that hfcs junk is not cool with me! So instead I’ve been snacking on cottage cheese. Of course still eating lots of plain yogurt too!

Your leaf plate looks awesome on your woven placemat!!

I had a nut butter hangover the other day too. So dang worth it, even if it did totally kill my appetite for the next 24 hours.

I don’t eat yogurt now, but growing up my favorite flavor was strawberry banana- and I hated raspberry!!

Hope you have a great hump day!!

Ahh you must be in Greek yogurt heaven! I wish Chobani would send ME some yogurt (hear that, Chobani people?)! ;)

Call me boring but my favourite yogurt flavour is vanilla. It pairs with almost everything and has the perfect bit of sweetness.

Lucky girl! That’s alot of chobani! I’ve only had the blueberry and the strawberry banana (I think?) so far. I preferred the blueberry for sure.

Awesome Chobani freebies! I’ve had pomegranate, strawberry, blueberry, peach, and I think that’s it. I think in the end I liked the blueberry the most, but I’ve decided that their too sweet for me, so I prefer to use their plain and add my own amount of jam or fresh fruit.

Was it called “London Calling!” hehe, all I can think about is that episode of Friends where Joey stands in the map.

My favorite yogurt has to be vanilla greek yogurt. I grew up eating greek yogurt so I’m not a huge fan of regular yogurt it’s to sweet.

I tried the choc chip brownie Larabar for the first time last night, too! It was good, but tasted strongly of dates (no wonder) to me, and not very brownie-ish. I did like the chips and nuts in it though, and of course I appreciate the 1/2 serving of fruit and all natural and fair trade ingredients! Yum. :)

I just noticed Justin’s peanut butter packs at the store the other day! I was curious if they really were that good. I’m not one to spend a lot on fancy nut butters. I usually just get it fresh ground from the machines they have at Fred Meyer. Mmm, fresh ground nut butters are the best.

I’m definitely a vanilla girl myself, I also love love loveee Stoneyfield strawberry. It almost tastes like Flintstones fruity pebbles. I love that you studied abroad in London, one of my friends just left to study medicine there and I’ve studied in Mexico (like you!) and Peru.
