Let’s Open Up a Froyo Shop

My Saturday started off with a bang! I went on a run outside and covered 5 hilly miles. It wasn’t easy. I took a couple walking breaks. But I did it. Afterwards, I felt like I had more to give so I went to the condo gym for 20 min. on the elliptical and 20 min. of full body strength training. I was a ball of energy! Three cheers for carborrific graham crackers and pretzel slims! Okay, my rest day probably contributed a little to that too :) .

Berry Banana Wheatgrass Protein Smoothie

With cinnamon graham cracker crumbs on top. The crumbs melted in the smoothie and tasted like pie crust! Sounds backwards since smoothies are cold, but it made sense in my head.

My mom and I wanted to go out and take advantage of the beautiful weather. We thought about going into DC but my mom had her heart set on frozen yogurt. Surprise surprise, huh?

While there are 2 froyo joints within crawling distance of our condo, we ventured all the way to the mall for self-serve. You can say we were doing ‘research’ because my mom seriously wants to open up a shop. She even emailed Starfruit to get information on starting a franchise over here. I think we should open a froyo/bakery/coffee shop so we still have people coming in when it’s freezing outside.

Alright anybody want to invest? You can get AllieBars for life :) .

I got taro, honey dew, chocolate and lychee with a lone granola cluster.

We then window-furniture-shopped for a bit. So much for being outdoors…ha!

IMG_7216.JPG

You know you’re growing up when furniture shopping ain’t so miserable.

I remember my brother and I used to get SO antsy pantsy when we were dragged along to go furniture/home shopping. Now, I’d much rather shop for home stuff than anything else.

…especially when dishes and big mirrors are involved.

Lovely leaf plates.

I wanted this little dish!

A fruit stand in the middle of the mall.

IMG_7229.JPG

Don’t they look real? They’re actually bars of soap. Really expensive soap.

Look at that peach pit!

Dinner was a healthy spin on McDonald’s McGriddles.

IMG_7280.JPG

The original version consists of sausage, egg and American cheese served on a small pancake injected with pancake syrup.

My Mak-Griddle was more like a waffle-wich.

Wholegrain waffles with an Amy’s V-Burg, egg whites, Laughing Cow Cheese, and ketchup. I wish I had drizzled some maple syrup on top for the full effect.

Once again, Mickey D’s ain’t got nothin’ on me :)

Dessert was outta this world. However, it deserves it’s own post. I’ll be back with the deets!

That was soap!? Oh crikey, I thought it was real fruit!!
I used to hate furniture shopping too – I LOVE it now! Especially if it involves plates or bowls….:p

The soap really does look like fruit! Love the frozen yogurt. :)

Best of luck to your mom! You should totally make a healthy bakery fro-yo combo if there’s a niche that needs to be filled in your neighborhood.

I really hated jogging as a kid, but I like it now. On the other hand, I loved riding my bike around in elementary school, but now I can’t because all I think about are the dangers of traffic. Sometimes adulthood takes the magic away.

I love your take on a McGriddle! I used to think McGriddles were just perverse and boycotted them for a long time…that was, until I tried one….holy yum. I am definitely going to have to try your version!!!

Haha Allie you finished all the hazelnut butter? It’s okay I eat nutella every morning here in Germany! I’m really craving a smoothie or graham cracker now though…

I never thought about furniture shopping like that! I was the same way- *hated* furniture shopping with a passion..now I go out of my way to browse through stores. Especially Williams-Sonoma where everything’s fabulous but wayyy out of budget. :P

I always hated grocery shopping when I was a kid — it seemed we would be there for hours and bagging groceries was the worst. Now I look forward to it and I love bagging my own groceries :)

Those fruit soaps are too cute!

What a delicious spin on Mcdonalds! Waffles taste great with savory toppings.

I totally get you on the correlation between growing up and enjoying furniture shopping. You know you’re an “adult” when you browse crate and barrel online.

i loved everything about this post!!! i too used to hateeee furniture shopping with my mom, but now i love it… i think it’s because i know soon i will have a place of my own and it’s a nice feeling having ownership of a place and really being able to settle down into it and making it MY home… as such, i want to choose all the furnishings and table decor and such =) and of course pretty tableware is my weakness!!! anthropologie dishes, hollaaa! (can’t afford, but love to look)

pretty soaps!! but i wouldn’t shell out the money..prob because i think after using that soap a few times, it wouldn’t be as pretty anymore!!! sad how pretty + utility can be hard to come by in that sense…

love how you healthified the mcgriddle sandwich – i think yours looks even better! and prob tastes better too!!

ps open up that froyo shop!!!!! =)

Those fruity soaps look so real!
I used to hate shoe shopping as a kid, mostly because my feet grew so fast I never knew what size I’d be….obviously that has changed:)
PS Just went to TJ’s and got some of those WG graham crax!

Ok a smoothie in a nut butter jar sounds epic. Especially when it is a chocolate hazelnut butter jar ;)

Uhh.. walking and jogging were definitely activities that I avoided at all costs as a kid :P Now I pretty much make excuses to do both :P

I LOVE the McGriddle makeover… except moreso because I love the combination of sausage and maple syrup rather than loving McDonalds. I actually have never eaten anything at McD’s other than chicken nuggets.. which I didn’t like.
However, maple syrup + ketchup? Gross. I’m glad you didn’t do it :P

I love shopping for furniture and housewares now too. Especially when it involves William Sonoma and Ikea. :D Also I hated running when I was younger but now I love it!

That is so cool that your mom wants to open a fro yo shop! Keep us posted on what happens with that!

I used to hate grocery shopping, I thought it was so boring but now I adore it. Maybe even more then clothes shopping , I get so excited when I find a new foodie item. :)

I definitely disliked exercise as a child, but that’s slowly changing now! I’m making it a habit first (do it without fail for.. 30? 60? 90 days? Something like that) and then I’ll probably start liking it. I’m already liking it ;) Man, I really think that if your mom supports you opening a fro-yo shop then she’d support the Alliebar biz. Have you talked about it with her? I say GO FOR IT! And maybe you could even mysteriously come up with an Alliebar-flavoured fro-yo based on what you put into Alliebars! ;)

Haha, I’ll bet those soaps are more expensive than a whole box of Dove. I’d rather spend my money on the real stuff, don’t you agree? :) If your mom opens a froyo shop, you might have found your calling. I’m envisioning a whole line of AllieBar toppings….

Hope you’ve had a great weekend!

im trying to get over the first pics lol. OMG! thank god for the big sized justins butter jars huh!! <3

the leaf print on the plate looks real…i mean, is it real, or is it painted. that would be too cool if it was actually embedded in the ceramic!!

That leaf plate is gorgeous! It looks like it’s an actual leaf just laying there on it.

I don’t really have the *funds* to invest in your froyo shop but I would certainly *patronize* it. We are neighbors, after all!
I love love love your twist on a McGriddle. There is something grossly irresistable about that sweet/salty mix. And yours won’t give me heart disease, yesss.

Great run! I love when I have a little extra extra at the end of a wrokout for just a wee bit more. So satisfying.

A froyo shop? Wouldn’t that be the best ever???

The fruit soaps are too cute to ever use…

that waffle-which is POSSIBLY the best invention I’ve seen…ever. I NEED to try that.

..sans the egg whites & laughing cow since i’m a vegan.

….plus lots & lots of agave for fun (:
