FACEPLANT!

in Breakfast, Fitness, Snacks

I made the mistake this morning of checking to see how cold it was outside while still wearing my pajama shorts. This was just seconds after stumbling out of the warm cocoon that is my bed. Not the most effective way to boost your motivation, that’s for sure.

It was going to be an oddly warm day though and I knew it would probably be my very last run outside until the Spring. I know I said I wanted to run outside through the winter but I don’t think that’s going to happen. At least not regularly. From now on it will likely be the treadmill or nothing.

I finished 4 miles in 40:41. I was a little bit slower today because I took quite a tumble.

IMG_4870.JPG

Notice that hole in my glove?

My run was going fairly well. I had a bit of pain in my shin and achilles (even after 7 days off from running and 3 days off from exercise completely). BUT all that pain was forgotten about midway through my run. While crossing an intersection, I tripped on the street (I know, I KNOW) and…

BAM!!!!

Faceplant.

My right knee, left hip, elbow and BOOB broke my fall. Owwwwww!

Did I mention it was in the middle of major intersection? Good thing I wasn’t jay-running so I had time to pick myself up and continue along.

I got a little scrape on my elbow and a bunch of bruises on my body. The most painful part? My boob!

IMG_4875.JPG

…and then 20 min. later, I found $12!! Yep, all is well.

I can buy myself a new pair of gloves with that.

IMG_4874.JPG

Afterwards, I did about 20 min. of exercises with 8 lb. dumbbells and ab work while watching the Duke Bball game.

***

Our food supply is still a bit sad (i.e. no Greek yogurt and no bananas) so I made…

Pumpkin Carob Swirl Eggy Oatmeal

  • 1/2 cup oats
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin
  • 1/4 cup egg whites
  • cinnamon & honey
  • unsweetened carob chips

IMG_4889.jpg

Swirled up!

IMG_4892.jpg IMG_4896.jpg

Doesn’t this bowl look like Princess Leia’s hairdo?

IMG_4894.jpg

A little bit? I swear I didn’t bump my head today!

Screen shot 2010-12-11 at 3.08.49 PM.png

Still hungry, I snacked on a slice of whole wheat bread, an apple (microwaved) and a Pumpkin Spice Caramel Chocolate.

IMG_4899.jpg

Last night, we went Christmas tree decoration shopping and I spotted this at Target…

Milk & Pumpkin Spice Caramel Chocolate Squares!

IMG_4886.jpg

They’re so good. They are nice and pumpkiny. They are quite sweet though so one goes a long way.

***

Off to go ice my hip because it’s in a LOT of pain! Not sure what’s on the agenda for tonight. Perhaps some Christmas shopping? Hopefully some grocery shopping too.

Tell me: Ever take a tumble while biking, walking or running outside?

Ouch! Glad you are okay and yes, that bowl looks exactly like her hair :)

I’ve taken my cardio indoors for the season as well. Lung can’t handle anything below 50 degrees apparently!

Oh no! I hope you’re okay. I’ve definitely wiped out a few times. Once, I fell so hard that my glasses flew off my face and landed in the street :(

Oh man, sounds painful! Poor you! But on the upside, finding $12 is pretty darn good! :)
I’ve never actually fallen when running YET (touchwood!), but have had quite a spectacular over-the-handlebars bike accident!

Aw I’m glad you’re ok after your tumble! That chocolate sounds like perfection. Ooh and I love the “Star Wars” bowl!!

Oh my gosh! I’m glad your okay… I’ve never fallen while running, but I don’t exactly fall gracefully so I am very thankful. I tend to go into shock and lay there for awhile, so me in a busy intersection falling down would not be okay.

Hah

Ouch!
Was it on the white cross walk strips? Those are really slick!
Either way – that sucks, hope you feel better (pre and post fall injuries) and get yourself some new gloves!

I have taken quite a few falls in my day! The worst part is when people see you…

I slipped on the sidewalk while walking once and fell. I ended up hitting my head into a stone doorstep. It hurt like nothing I had ever felt before. I just stayed on the ground for a few minutes….and PEOPLE WALKED OVER ME without asking if I was even okay. Thanks a lot, San Francisco.

I ended up being okay….but I had a HUGE lump on my head (you can still kind of see the scar 6 years later…), AWFUL headaches for a few days and TWO black eyes that popped up the next day. So on top of the pain of the injuries, I had the humiliation of having to tell people that I didn’t get into a fight, nor am I suffering domestic abuse….I simply can’t walk down a sidewalk.

Oh yeah. I worked with the public. Two weeks of, “I hope the other guy looks worse!”

:(

ha, the bowl totally does look like Pricness Lea! Random story–I went as Princess Lea for Halloween when I was little, but had a hissy fit and refused to wear the wig. Basically I was wearing a white sheet as a costume then. And I would get SO mad when people didn’t know who I was. Guess I should have kept the wig on. haha

This summer, I was about 17 miles into a run, cruising right along and the next thing I knew I was flying through the air. For a split second, the only thing I cared about was whether I had damaged my Garmin as I landed right on it! The Garmin was fine, but I was a bloddy mess and still about 3 miles from my car. I literally laughed the entire last three miles and felt like a total bada$$ whenever I passed another runner:)

Yes, that bowl does look like Leia ; )

Dang, I’m sorry you had such a painful fall! And you still went to the gym do weights and ab work after that lol. Ouch!

Those oats look yummy! Do the egg whites ruin the taste a little bit, or are the oats still very yummy?

I’ve been wanting to try those pumpkin chocolate squares, but haven’t gotten my hands on one. Those type of squares though, like you said, are usually very sweet so I don’t think I would like them much.

Wow girlie! U really did a number on yourself! Poor boob! :(

Sadly, most of my spills occur during everyday activities and my sheer clumsiness. Haven’t taken a spill yet while exercising (find some wood and knock on it for me).
My last spill was 3 months ago while clearing out my storage unit. Result? An ankle sprain that is STILL giving me problems!

That bowl really does look like Princess Leia’s! Awesome!

Oh man! Sorry about your fall. Ive never experienced something like that *knock on wood*. And yes–thank god you weren’t jay running. oh boy!
PS: Those mini-chocolates look delicious. I usually buy that same brand but the 72% dark chocolate ones. But Im sure the ones you got taste a whole lot better. :)

OUCH! I hope your boob is ok. ;)

Well, I have an overabundance amount of clumsy moments to choose from, but the worst one I can conjure up is falling down a set of stairs in my high school (the main ones) when it was heavily trafficked AND while I was holding my boyfriend’s hand. The cherry on top you may ask? I was wear a short skirt. Yep, fun stuff.

That bowl does look like her hair so you’re not crazy. :)

I took a MAJOR fall during my Thanksgiving Turkey Trot trail run. I was having a rough/slow run already and I hit a huge root, going down hill, slammed my quad against the second part of the root and had a major contusion. I had to be picked up but an old man and a woman running by…not my finest moment. So sorry about your fall; I know the feeling! At least the $12 makes up for the glove casualty :) Oh and I love your oat recipe, one of my favorites!

My friend tripped not too long ago but unfortunately, nothing broke her fall so she landed for her face.
But now, she’s almost all healed =)

I’ve fallen twice in the same run! Oops!

I’ve also wrecked my bike twice, once really close to traffic, so that was a little scary.

Hope your body gets to feeling better. You might be pretty sore tomorrow, so play it by ear.

I fall while running ALL the time. 3 times last winter actually. I remember them all vividly.

1. Running with friends, turned around to look at someone, and BAM, on the ground – I actually skidded.
2. Running with friends, got to an icy part, slipped, grabbed my friend’s pants and took her down with me.
3. Running by myself, hit some ice and went down FAST.

Maybe I shouldn’t run when there’s ice?

I’ve kicked myself in the legs MANY times while on the elliptical. Always so embarassing when I yelp in pain!

How exactly do you mix in egg whites in your oats–add it at the beginning or end?

I faceplanted during my first two weeks of high school cross country…I actually almost quit afterwards! (Not only due to the face plant…) Glad I stuck with it, but it certainly hurt!

The money was definitely a redeeming factor!

AHAHA i thought the $12 part was a joke! thats what i always say when I’m telling a story and no one is reacting the way the intended! I have never taken a tumble while running, but one time a bird pooped right on my arm right as I was running by….

I’m sorry, I LOL-ed when I saw some comments saying, “I hope your boob is okay.” So mature, I know.

I’m the world’s clumsiest klutz, so yeah, I’ve taken a tumble…or two. Okay, a LOT of tumbles. And I’ve got the scars to prove it. But if I could find $12 later on, I’d take the tumble and the scar! Money-crazy Asian alert!

My parents told me it is like 17 degrees at night there! Brrr! Stay warm, dear Allie!

I’ve been training for a 10k (it’s in a few hours!) and I was going for my last run before the race on Friday. I was a block away from my house and all of a sudden I’m flying through the air after slipping on black ice!! Oddly enough my pinky finger broke the fall, so that’s all that’s really suffering, thank goodness. I may have to stick to the indoors after that one. Hope you’re feeling ok!!

Guys think they have it bad when they get hit between the legs, but it’s actually super painful to hit or fall on our boobs too! :P

I’m always falling all over the place, especially now that the sidewalks are icy! I think I’ve formed bruises now that just never fade haha!

At least you had that chocolate to make it better. ;)

37 Jenn December 12, 2010 at 11:50 am

I feel your pain! I’m so clumsy, that I stumble and fall while walking. But my most embarrassing fall: I was running next to a super cute guy and I fell on my face. Like a gentleman, he helped me up and we laughed about it. Although, I’ve never found money while on a run!

Yowza! The last tumble I took was actually from my bike, but I landed on sand so it wasn’t bad.

Did you just microwave the whole apple?

Reply

40 Allie December 12, 2010 at 12:44 pm

Mimi–
No, I cut it into chunks first and sprinkled cinnamon. I only microwave it because I’m allergic to raw apples.

Reply

41 Natalia - a side of simple December 12, 2010 at 1:06 pm

I just read your comment above about microwaving apples vs. raw. That truly works and you don’t get an allergic reaction? How did you ever find that out? That’s so neat! (well, not the part about you being allergic, but where you can eat them if they’re not raw). Sorry about the faceplant. I did one last year a la black ice. Not fun. Sadly, I didn’t find money to make me feel better. :(

I did a face plant last weekend..although it was due to fainting and not tripping. While I’m fine now I’m pretty sure I broke my nose and my lip was in a LOT of pain all week. Be glad you still were conscious so that you didn’t go plow your face straight into the ground. It’s definitely something to avoid. And be happy your body knows what to do to heal!

Reply

46 Marg December 13, 2010 at 12:10 pm

That’s pretty funny, it won’t be long before I do. I haven’t fell running, but I did go off my bike once. Scuffed my chin, wrists, and knees.

But I’m used to another kind of faceplanting, while wakeboarding. Came up with a bloody nose before from the force of smacking my face in the water!

Reply

47 retro sweets December 13, 2010 at 12:47 pm

Ouchhh???? But Yay for the$12! I would love to have a faceplant and stumble upon a great haul from time to time. But I’m really hoping it won’t involve any booby pains.
I’m curious too on how did you found out you’re allergic to raw apples? This is my first time to hear about a fruit allergy. I’ll go research on it.
