…CHRISTMAS!!

I took these photos of Oxford St, London back in 2008. What beautiful holiday decorations.

Anyways, holiday lights in downtown London is not the topic of today’s post. I just wanted to set the mood.
Two weeks ago, I went Christmas tree shopping with my dad. We got a humongous tree from the mountains of North Carolina (via Costco). It is just a couple inches from hitting the ceiling!

For most Christmas celebrators, this is a yearly tradition. For me, it’s a treat! Growing up, we always went skiing around Christmastime so some years we got a Christmas tree and some years we didn’t, despite the fact that I begged and pleaded for days on end.
Yep, I was (and still am) that kind of child.
Puh-leeeeease
B-b-b-but where is Santa gonna leave the presents if we don’t have a tree?
***
The last time we got a Christmas tree was 2006, my freshman year of college. My parents surprised me by getting a tree and decorating it before I even got back from school for winter break.
I guess they really missed me that year.

(Don’t I look young in this photo? Actually, I kinda still look like that now.)
Every year since then we’ve had this miniature tree because I’ve either been in London or down at school. It’s difficult to beg and plead for a tree when you’re hundreds or thousands of miles away.

Cute, but not good enough.

This year since we’re all home for the holidays…it’s a tree year. Ho ho ho!
Except, we could only find 1 small box of decorations after moving twice. This box was full of junk too—broken lights and ornaments. None of me and my brother’s kindergarten craft projects and other significant ornaments could be found!

So we had to go out and get cheap ornaments and lights to decorate our tree.

We found some pretty ornaments that didn’t break the bank. We didn’t go all out though because we’re still hoping the old decorations are somewhere in the garage.

We also found our stockings from way back when. These are ancient!

One problem, how is Santa going to get in to deliver presents?
Peter sealed up the fireplace to block cold air from entering our house (saves energy…yadda yadda). That’s gonna have to go on Christmas Eve….’cuz Santa Clause is coming to town!
With or without an arm.

Hahaha. So few words in this post, but so many laughs.
Boy did you get a tree – so beautiful!
Wow that is such a beautiful tree!!
Well we don’t even have a fireplace, but Santa always manages to find his way in…!
I miss the smell of real trees! We have a fake one
Love all the decor!
Great tree! We always get real ones from our church!
You look so adorable in that photo! I too am blessed with such eternal youth
People always think I am way younger than I actually am!
Beautiful tree!! I always thought the same thing about Santa not knowing where to put the presents if there wasn’t a tree. Or if we happened to be traveling over Christmas, I was worried he wouldn’t know where we were. I had to write a special letter letting him know.
Your tree looks absolutely gorgeous! I can’t imagine having a single Christmas without a real, full size tree. It’s a tradition in my family that we go and pick one out the day that I come home from college!
Hope you find your ornaments!! Our tree is all homemade ornaments or something significant and it’s always fun to pull them out every year and remember the story that goes with each one
I’m loving the London pics… I’m dying to visit England!
oh my goshh I thought you in London now for a sec!! got me excited there.! but YES tis true the xmas lights all over the city cannot be beaten!
Aww, I love your Christmas tree! So pretty, I never would have thought those ornaments were cheap ones! Looks great!
BEAUTIFUL tree! I’d be that kid too if I didn’t get one growing up-the tree being put up was like the official start of the holidays! That’s when you really get excited about the gifts that’ll soon be under it!
I ALWAYS love reading your post because they never fail to make me lol.
P.S. I hope you find your ornaments and decorations!
The tree and decorations are lovely! Great photos of London with all the Christmas lights!
You got me in a cheery holiday mood. : )
I will actually be home for the first time in 8 years during the holidays, and have actually contemplated putting up a tree. I have 2 cats though, that are extremely “mischievous,” and I have a feeling that the minute I put it up, I’m going to have a bit of a mess to clean up!
OMG! I have that same white stocking with the puppy dog on it! How cool!
My dad does the same to our windows. So crazy!
I love your London pics!
This made me so excited to go home and decorate my tree with my family:) It’s a tradition. And you do look young in that photo!
i want a huge tree, yours is awesome
You do look young!! Crazy how we think we look the same until we look at old pictures and suddenly…we don’t. Makes me want to look at some HS pics!
We still haven’t gotten our tree and it’s killing me!! Ahhhh I can’t wait!!
I hope you find your ornaments! It would be a shame to have lost so many memories!
This post makes me so excited to go home tomorrow and get our Christmas tree!
What a great xmas post! Makes me miss having a tree like a did when I was growing up..but hey, it’s ok
I look at photos of myself from years ago and think, “But I look the same now” all the time! I’m 22 now, so you’d think I’d look different than I did at 16. Not so much :p
This post made me smile. You’re adorable.
Wow, that IS a gorgeous tree!!
I wrote on my blog just yesterday that I dream of a London christmas – and those photos made it so much sadder i won’t be there.
Beautiful pictures though.
Great entry.
