Since I spent the entire day yesterday baking (and consuming) biscotti, when nighttime came along, I had to find something else to do…

It was 10PM and The Sing Off just ended (an a capella singing competition on TV that is totally awesome!).
Side note: Peter is in love with The Sing Off. He can’t even sit down to watch the show. He stands and stares at the TV while the groups perform one by one. Then during the commercial breaks, he analyzes the groups performances and professes his newfound love for a capella music.
This is coming from a guy who doesn’t enjoy watching reality TV all that much. Action shows with guns and blood, yes. Reality shows, no. Just two nights ago he was talking about how The Biggest Loser hurt his head.

Peter got so excited about calling in to vote that he had a pen and paper ready well before the numbers to vote were announced. Then he frantically scribbled them down and called in seconds after the lines opened up. Peter has never ever in his entire life called in to vote for anything. It’s a miracle that he even knows the names of the groups.
Photographic evidence:

Back to my Tweet. I had a random urge to make a lightbox last night. I meant to make one over the summer but never go around to it. Well, I skipped out on my workout (to bake) so I had extra energy come 10PM.
I sort of just slapped it together since it was late and the only boxes we had weren’t really fit for the job. I didn’t really look at the directions clearly and botched it up pretty bad. Whoops!

Regardless, I wanted to test it out.

(oh my oh my that is the crappiest light box known to man. I need to remake it tonight!)

Here are the comparison shots. Ready?
1. This was in the light box under daylight bulbs as seen above

2. Daylight bulbs only (no light box)
See how the light is a lot more harsh since it’s shining directly on the biscotti? There is less of an angelic glow.

I moved the light so it would shine from the top (rather than the left), which helped with the shadows a bit. The lighting is still pretty harsh.

3. This was taken under regular (yellowish) bulbs. There’s more of a glow to it since the light is coming from 4 feet above but there is a yellow tint.

What do you think? I think the lightbox photo wins hands down.

This morning, I woke up to a natural light box!!
It’s SNOWING pretty hard right now. Small flakes but lots of them everywhere! It’s accumulating too since it’s so cold outside.

More biscotti and coffee as my pre-workout snack.

The gym is open despite the snow and if I don’t go soon, I will surely turn into a piece of biscotti.
Is it silly that I can’t wait for the sun to set so I can try out my lightbox again? Okay, the biscotti overload is messing with my head.
Hopefully I’ll be back with the biscotti recipe. I have to sort through the 80 million photos I took first so it could take awhile. You know me.

Love lightboxes! It is on my to-do and wish list!
Ha ha… your dad is hilarious! I stopped voting in for shows after AI Season 2.
The pictures look great!
I really love biscotti.
Just thought you should know.
Wow, the lightbox makes SUCH a difference!
That biscotti looks delicious! Can’t wait for the recipe!
I def. see the difference with the lighting. PS: Anxiously waiting for the biscotti recipe
I like the one with the light box
Very cool!
… I wish my mom was crazy into reality TV like that. Haha!
The first picture is definitely the best. I am going to make a lightbox (maybe the week between Christmas and New Year’s when I don’t have work). I have a feeling it might change my life, since I take most of my food pictures at night.
I really really really want to make a light box! Haha, I love your shifty one. And your dad is so dang cute with his voting.
I am so excited to read more about your lightbox! I’ve been dreaming of making one! This post (and any new ones about photography!) is getting shoved under my hubby’s nose so he can help me put something together =)
Thanks x100 for the inspiration/help/good reads!

I want to make a lightbox too.
Allie! I have missed you! Those biscottis look so good! I need to make them. Such a good idea!
I’m back to blogging after an insane 8-9 ish months. I even bought my own domain – it sort of makes you feel like a grownup, doesn’t it??! xoxoxo!
Ahaha, your dad is too funny!
The light box photo is amazing!! I need to make a lightbox now!
I’m in love with Peter.
Your dad is AWESOME
Neat– wish I had the creativeness and time to make one!
I want to make a light box so bad.. there should be a blogger light box constructing get together! I think it would be a success.
Hahaha your dad cracks me up! Isn’t it funny how dads can get SO excited about something you wouldn’t expect? Mine is obsessed with watching the birds in our backyard. He’s started keeping a pair of binoculars by the back window.
The light box photo looks the best by far!
Wow Allie! That picture with the light box looks awesome!! So, a few years ago, Joe gave his little sister a real light box as she was making and selling jewelry and putting up pics on facebook. I don’t think she’s ever used it. How rude would it be for me to ask her for it? hahaha
Photo #1 is the winnerrrr!! So pretty + love that plate! I need to plug in that 2nd light for my box! haha laziness
DEFINITELY the light box picture!
Wowee! I want to make a lightbox now! I have never heard of them until you wrote this post. Thanks!!
I can’t believe it is (was?) snowing there. I always think that whatever you get, we’ll get it in NYC a few hours later. But we didn’t get any snow! I think I’m happy about this!
