This trip has been especially fun because Peter and I are both pretty laid back travelers. We have the same interests and like to shop for the same things. You know…food, cheap stuff, more food, house stuff, and did I mention food?
Like me, Peter enjoys lurking at grocery stores, fruit stands, bakeries and street markets. To be honest, a lot of our exploring is fueled by our cravings. Peter wants noodles? We find a noodle shop. Allie wants bread? We find a bakery.
My dad translates everything and I am our human GPS. It works out well. Even after 2 weeks without a workout and a kitchen, I feel sane.
It’s a miracle, really.

We leave tomorrow morning to return home. It’s time to say goodbye to Hong Kong…
Goodbye beautiful flowers (can you believe this photo is unedited?!).

Goodbye elaborately decorated shopping malls. My aunt gave me this green jacket from her closet…I love it. Thanks auntie!

Goodbye always-in-season tropical fruit (pommelo, jackfruit, starfruit, dragonfruit, papaya, waxed apple).

Goodbye ridiculously tasty and cheap guava

Goodbye bakeries on every block (and there are a lot of blocks in HK!).

Goodbye carb therapy.

Goodbye bread so outrageously soft you can’t help but give it a little tap with your fingers when you walk by.

Goodbye Starbucks with unique pastries/snacks and free reading material.

Goodbye dingy and non-dingy restaurants…and everything in between.

Peter refuses to say goodbye to won ton noodles.

Goodbye city walking that gave me a nice break from the gym.

Goodbye street markets.

Goodbye fresh fruit juice off the street (guava and papaya for my final juice!)

Goodbye random street food that Peter loves so much.

Goodbye crazy expensive grocery store/museum.

Somebody bought the $70 melon!!!! I didn’t see it happen but I did witness the evidence…

Goodbye super cloudy/foggy skies. That’s the same view from my aunt and uncle’s apartment. Remember all the buildings and lights?!
Not today.

Goodbye delicious candy…although I did buy a few bags to take back home with me. You know, to continue torturing my dentist.

Goodbye random dried smelly things on the side of the street that Peter loves because it’s cheaper here than in the U.S.
Like a kid in a candy store. That is the face of excitement.

Goodbye cheap fruit and veggie stands/markets.

A big goodbye to the 7 million people living in Hong Kong (that’s the line for the bus…).

Goodbye Peter’s fam (including the adorable grandparents!). See ya later.

What an experience this trip has been! The last time I visited Hong Kong, I was 9 years old and too young to appreciate the culture, the time spent with family and the food. Especially the food. I don’t remember a single thing we ate that week.
I’m glad I had my camera this time so I can remember this trip for as long as I live. 1,150 photos should be enough of a reminder
.
Alright, off to pack, scan some old photos from back in the day, and sleep! It’ll be a 24 hour journey home, a bit shorter than our flight here, thank goodness.

Have a safe flight home! Will see you in a few days.
A 7o dollar piece of fruit?!
My most memorable trip is when my family and I went to Spain. It was so different from other trips we went on and I absolutely loved it. I loved all the different tapas and the long walks we took through the cities after meals. And all the history, too. Spain was one of those places that I visited and know that I will go back. Probably not now (don’t think my college budget would work, lol) but I know that one day I will be back there
Your trip looks awesome, and I love all the pics – especially all the beautiful, looking fruit. I wanna eat them all!
My favorite trip was either snowboarding in Colorado last month or a service trip to Miami in high school with some of my best friends!
Aww sad that you’re leaving, but I guess it’ll be good to be home
I would definitely miss that Candy Heaven!
And that queue for the bus is INSANE!!
Fly safe! Your grandparents are so cute.
my most memorable trip was probably to hawaii for a swim trip in 2006.
I’ve had so many fun trips with my family. Us girls in the family always went on a special trip for spring break and once in the summer. We’ve been to the mountains in Arkansas, North Carolina to see the mountains and waterfalls, Disney World, the beach, Mississippi Delta… all kinds of fun trips. I love them all.
Love the “kid in candy store” look in that one pic of your dad. I’m sure you’re at least a tiny bit glad to be going home. =)
Aweeee girl, you will be happy to be home even though you will miss Hong Kong! I wish we had fresh juice that you can get off the street, I would DIE.
Slash my most memorable trips have been to Nicaragua. I’ve been twice on mission, and they were the most powerful experiences I have ever had! I go back every January (except this past one, there was a family emergency, more on that on the bloggity blog), but the people there are so beautiful! You get rid of all of your “internal noise”, it is so peaceful and fun and free…not even words.
Aww, I’m always sad when I have to leave! It sounds like you had quite a trip! Can you believe that I haven’t tried any of the fruit in this post (except melon)?!
A trip I will never forget was a trip to Tunisia with two girl friends. It was so much fun (and it involved a guy, heh) and I’ll treasure these memories forever.
WHAT?! That has to change!!
I know, right?! The fact that I haven’t tried any of that tropical fruit is even more ridiculous considering I am a BIG fan of fruit and I eat ridiculous amounts of it! I need to get on that ASAP.
Aw you and your dad are too cute!! Safe travels! Its been great reading about all your adventures. My most memorable trip was with my family to Egypt 10 years ago.
wow!!! what an amazing trip. hong kong (and it’s food) look fabulous. i’m a total foodie – so i very much appreciate all the food picts : )
It looks like you had a really fun trip! My most memorable trip was the last time I went to Europe. I stayed with a friend in Rome after a cruise to Scandinavia. I would die to go back!
What an amazing trip!!! I cannot believe how beautiful everything was!
The best trip I have ever taken was to Germany when I was in college. I just loved being so far from home, in such a different place! I loved hearing German EVERYWHERE, seeing the language on signs, etc. It was so different from home that I couldn’t help but love it. Berlin was so almost futuristic, and then you go to the country and the little towns have cobblestone streets, it looked like you walked into Beauty and the Beast!
I hope to travel more soon — and definitely back in Europe for sure!
Sad you’re leaving, but it was fun keeping up with it while it lasted:)
That city is just incredible. Maybe you and your camera skills just makes it look so awesome. I want all those tropical fruits. My most memorable trip was to Florence Italy. I was sad for a month after I got back. I tried to buy stuff and eat stuff to remind me of the trip but eventually I just went back to my old ways. I am going back next year. I’m pretty excited.
So envious of your travels– even if they were kind of last minute and unexpected.
havea safe trip back
What an amazing trip you had!!! Im loving the photos of fruits and all those desserts. YUM! Have a safe trip back home
SUCH a wonderful trip!! You’re definitely lucky to have so many traveling adventures under your belt.
That jacket is adorable!
My most memorable trip was going to New Orleans for a concert back in 2002. I was 19…just a few months shy of 20. It was the first time I ever traveled alone. The first time I had ever spent a night alone. The first time I ever checked into a hotel alone. The first time I ever was completely on my own.
It was scary and awesome all at the same time.
Wow – that is a lot of pictures! I’m glad you’re on your way home. Even though it’s nice to get away, sometimes getting back into a routine is nice as well!
Love the fruit picture, because I’ve never bought any of those fruits before because I was scared of how they would look on the inside and taste! Now, I’ll be on the lookout to try them
Have a safe flight home!!
Your trips looks absolutley wonderful! Makes me want to visit China someday.
my most memorable trip would either be Vancouver Island, or 5 countries in Europe.
Oh my gosh. That bus line is ridiculous. But it looks like you had a wonderful trip with tons of new experiences!
My favorite trip would have to just be my time abroad in Dublin where I got to travel throughout Europe. Barcelona was one of my favorite cities!
Glad you had a wonderful time in Hong Kong. Have a safe flight back home!
Hong Kong is definitely going on my list of places to travel to when I’m older!
I can’t believe it has already been two weeks!
Have a safe trip home Allie!
Peters ‘Happy Candy Face’ is priceless! love it!
Wow I cant believe its back home already for you! I bet your mom misses you both like crazy or maybe she was having parties every night while you guys were gone ; )
Thanks for sharing your trip and amazing highlights everyday with us readers!
Have a safe flight home, you and Peter both! : )
Wishing you a safe trip home! It has been quite an experience.
Awesome recap, looks like an incredible experience
Glad to have shared it with you and Peter!
Have a safe flight! Hong Kong is kind of like New York in that way: lots of people, lots of walking, lots of awesomeness
I’ll need to catch up on the previous posts, didn’t know you were in Hong Kong.
I went in 2007, for my company’s holiday party and I loved it. Most of Hong Kong is clean and public transportation was so easy.
Your post has inspired me to do a flashback for the trip.
Have safe travels!
Aww you and your dad sound like the perfect travel buddies!
I can’t believe your trip is over already though. It looks like it’s been such an amazing experience! You’ve seen SO much!
Aha, the melon sold! It better be one hell of a delicious melon, that’s for sure!
I loved that you posted your experience in Hong Kong, Allie. Travelling is too expensive for me so to be able to experience other cultures through your experiences is really nice of you. I know it doesn’t compare to what your actual experience was, but it still opens my mind to what daily life is like on the other side of the Earth.
What a special father-daughter trip. Definitely a memory that will last forever
what an amazing trip, allie!!!!!!
and you have all 1150 pics to prove it
I have felt like i traveled right along with you…thank you for graciously sharing and posting while youve been gone! it’s been amazing to read and “travel” with you
I can’t believe your trip is over already! I have loved reading all of these posts. You and your dad really do seem like a great traveling pair, which is wonderful
My most memorable trip was probably my solo trip to London in 2009. I was supposed to see Michael Jackson in concert but ended up just taking a vacation because obviously, that concert didn’t happen.
Have a safe flight! It looks like you had a lot of fun in Hong Kong.
in all honesty, I’m really sad to see you go! It’s been such a pleasure living vicariously through you for the past week. Thank you so much for sharing your trip with us!!!! Safe travels home, girl!
Glad you had such a nice trip! Such a unique experience! papaya is one of my favorite fruits…whenever its available, I go nuts! And the candy looks like fun
Great post Allie! I love the little recap! I would LOVE to travel with you and Peter! We seem to have the same kind of exploring spirit!
We never really had many vacations when I was younger, so I think my most memorable trip so far was the one I took last summer to St. Augustine, FL. I took like 6,263 pics and got to experience so much of the culture, the food, and of course soaking up the sun on the beach! I can’t wait to go back!
you and your dad are too cute. I love jack fruit and all the fresh fruit you can get while traveling abroad. I went to Vietnam a few years ago and it was so nice to have all these little food markets/stands outside your door when you wake up. that first picture is definitely frame-worthy!
I’m in HK now for 3 months for work and I was googling HK blogs and so amazed to see you were just here!! (I already had you on my blogroll but just recently so didn’t read that far back
)
Your pics are amazing! I don’t have my DSLR with me, but I keep seeing amazing things I want to capture! I’m staying on HK island near Central – is that where you mainly stayed? Any tips on things to do/see and of course EAT (healthily – as much as I love Asian food I’ve already done too many dodgy dumplings
)
3 months?! For work?! JEALOUS!! We stayed in Sha Tin, because it was midway between my grandparents’ home and downtown.
So much food! Where do I even begin? I loved the street food/drinks the best. And of course the bakeries! ALL OF THEM
