My New Photo House

Happy Rainy Thursday! Is it raining cats and dogs over there too?

Today, I took a trip to Wegman’s with my Uncle for a late sushi lunch. My Uncle is in town for several weeks visiting (he’s retired…jealous). We’ve been talking about going to Wegman’s to eat at their humongous prepared foods section for awhile now.

What better what to brighten up a rainy day?

IMG_0910.jpg

Wegman’s has a wide selection of sushi and sashimi, including brown rice rolls—my favorite!

IMG_0895.jpg

We got a couple sushi rolls, sashimi, summer rolls and a slice of pizza for him.

IMG_0898.jpg

I got the Salmon Pacific Roll made with brown rice

IMG_0899.JPG

I also ate the tuna and salmon sashimi and 1 spicy shrimp summer roll.

IMG_0903.jpg

My uncle picked Spicy Tuna and assorted nigiri.

IMG_0907.jpg IMG_0905.jpg

Of course we grocery shopped afterwards and then hopped over to Target to pick something up (see below).

I came back and ate a Sunflower Seed Butter granola bar and a small slice of birthday carrot cake. I swear this cake gets better with each passing day.

At Target, I picked up a Photo House or a 2TB External Hard Drive. The photos I take with my DSLR camera take up a LOT of memory and I’ve been looking for a place to house them for months now.

I spotted a deal on this guy a couple weeks ago for $85 (originally $140!!!). They didn’t have any in stock then so I took a rain check.

A similar one at Costco was $100 last month with a $30 off coupon.

Side Story

When I went in the first time around, I had to ask the guy working in the electronics dept. at Target for a rain check.

Me: Can I get a rain check for the Western Digital…2 uhhh…Tee Bee….Tig…Tigabyte?

Target Guy: Um, what are you looking for? Ohh the hard drive?

Me: Yeah, that!

Target Guy: Let me look in the back to see if we have it. Oh and it’s TERABYTE my dear.

Me: Oh yeah, right, good to know….thanks [smiles awkwardly].

You learn something everyday. Save yourself the embarrassment folks…it’s TERABYTE :) .

***

I do have a 250GB portable hard drive but it’s formatted for my baby Macbook (Time Machine) and cannot be used drag ‘n’ drop style.

Baby Macbook should actually be called Ancient Macbook. It can’t handle large tasks and can’t hold large files. Poor thing is on it’s deathbed!

IMG_0926.jpg

Thus far, I’ve been saving my DSLR photos by burning them onto blank DVDs. Burning one DVD takes 10-20 minutes, which isn’t all that bad, but searching for a specific photo in my huge stack of DVDs is just a pain in the butt!

Basically what I’m saying is I can’t keep burning DVDs for as long as I live. It was simply a short term solution.

IMG_0925.jpg

This 2 TB hard drive can hold ~400,000 JPEG photos, which should last me about 5 years or so? :)

IMG_0923.JPG

Beets, broccoli, salmon, and tofu for dinner. Cats cookies and a granola bar for dessert.

I’m spending the rest of the night applying for a few jobs I found last night (joy), backing up my photos (double joy) and watching American Idol (non-sarcastic joy!).

Tell me: Do you back up your photos? What do you use to house them?

I. freaking. love. Wegmans. Some of the best sushi I’ve ever had, and that is saying a lot! Weggies is my homejoint.

Anywhos, I need an external hard drive BADLY. It ain’t easy to have all of my things for school and photographs on one comp!

Is that a drizzle of balsamic vinegar on that pizza?

I drizzled pomegranate balsamic on my pizza once and it was UH-MaZ_Ing! :D

No, not quite. They have a big healthy food section but it has a lot of *normal* stuff too.

Wegmans Market Cafe is the best! It was our favorite place to go to eat in high school! I’ve even spent entire afternoons tucked away in them. :)

That cake looks so good!!!

I don’t have enough photos to need any extra backup — I don’t think. Jason is smart enough to know when I would need that and it isn’t time yet!

I actually use the exact same hard drive to store my photos. And my desktop looks like that too. My work computer desktop is even worse!

Tell me about it. Looking and applying for jobs like a mad woman has become the bane of my existence. I just want to scream ANYBODY LOOKING FOR A LIMITED EXPERIENCE NUTRITIONIST???! My question is, when do you start applying to other field jobs that you didn’t major in being administrative assistants, clerical jobs, or do you not?

I bought a 1 TB external hard drive when I got my netbook last year. I actually don’t use it a lot, but I keep a backup of all photos on it in case my computer crashes!

I wish I backed up my pics. But I just delete them!

Tigabyte..I like that one!! I definitely need something to back up my photos in case some crash happens like it did with my older computer (although it was on accident as my dad spilled wine all over it! :P )

I KEEP telling myself i need to back up my photos, which I haven’t done in a while. Ahhh.

Mmm to that raw fish… it’s a big reason why I started eating fish again.

It was my first time trying it and I liked it! Tasted like WFs, which I also like. I guess I’m not too hard to please?

Thank you for the reminder that I NEED to back up my hard drive. I actually don’t save my pics, since I upload them to Picasa online before posting them. Not really a safe bet, but it helps with space because the only pics I save are the really special meals or pictures of people!

Good thing I have plans to go for sushi tonight because this post just gave me a major craving! :D

Haha oh man I can’t believe you’ve been backing up your pictures on blank CDs! That must be such a pain in the butt! :P I don’t back up my pictures at all though… I should start looking into that because they definitely eat up SO much space on my computer.

I remember when I had Sushi for the first time. :) It was really good, though a little too sweet for me. :)

Sounds like you had fun! :D

That is some really good looking store sushi! I wish we had a place like that where I live. Good idea backing up your photos, I should definitely do that.

I wish we had a Wegmans! Somehow grocery stores outside my area always look cooler, even though we have quite a variety here.

2TB = awesome! We just got a 4TB CPU tower that we’re using as a media server. That’s crazy huge! We had to get it because the husband has been downloading tv shows from iTunes…like the ENTIRE season of the Sopranos!

I upload the ones I want to keep to a server like picasa, photobucket or flickr. I also limit space by deleting angles I know I’ll never use. I only keep photos that have sentimental value on my actual computer.

That being said we have 2 external hard-drives to store the photos our after-school program kids take. They take A LOT of photos and we needed to store them somewhere easily accessible.

That sushi looks insanely delicious! Oh, the joys of backing things up : )

I always make mistakes like that “tillabyte? uh….” At those moments, I just remind myself that humility is good for the soul, smile, and awkwardly walk away… haha ;)

The first time I ever had sushi it was from Wegman’s. I love that place! I wish there was one in the city but at least I get to go when I visit my parents. And when I say go, I mean go *daily*, haha. Thanks for the heads up on terabytes. I wouldn’t have known either!

OK you win the laugh-of-the-day award with that TIGAbyte story, I even had to tell my office buddy her because she wanted to know why I was laughing so hard. Thanks! ;)

I have photos saved on my computer primarily, but then they’re backed up on an external hard drive. I’ve got about 100gb of photos at the moment, stretching back to 1999 when I got my first digital camera. Obviously with each better camera, the files keep getting BIGGER! haha

I have a 500 GB external hard drive that I use. I don’t take nearly as many photos as you, so it works great for me!
