Run With The Wind

…or against it!

After a night of crazy dreams, I was in need of a run to clear up my noggin. Where is the paper plate/yarn dream catcher I made in 1st grade? I could use that right about now.

I downed a cup of coffee and a couple dates before hitting the pavement. It was sunny and 53* F, but it felt a lot colder running against the [80 mph hurricane] winds!

Garmy was completely out of juice, so I had to run without her. I ran about 4 out of the 5.5 miles (my usual loop) and walked the rest.

It was nice to run without my Garmin and just focus on the way my body felt. It was also nice NOT knowing my pace running against the wind!

Post run, I did some yoga poses and stretches. I made the mistake of doing squats and lunges last night so my leg muscles/glutes were super tiiiiight. In fact, I felt a pinch in each of my butt cheeks with every step I took this morning. Lovely image, huh?

***

I dreamt up an elaborate meal during my run but once it came time to eat, my appetite was nowhere to be found. Instead, I stuck with the basics…

Ezekiel + smoked salmon + egg whites.

…and a super sludgy Berry Spinach Smoothie

I was a little heavy handed with the frozen spinach today…

Then, literally 5 min. after eating, the hunger beast came back in FULL FORCE. I noshed on toast with almond butter + banana and an orange.

The hunger beast has been tamed…for now.

I’m going to a blogger meet up tonight, which should be tons o’ fun. Three cheers for socializing! I’m gonna try and get some work done beforehand.

Toodle loo!

Tell me: Do you stick with the same eats pre/post workout or do you switch it up?

Yay for the run!! Wind does make running 10 x harder though :/
I just have whatever I fancy – if I’m hot, I want something cold and frozen and blended, if I’m cold – it’s oats or pancakes :)

I am queen for eating the same things everyday!! I guess you could say I am boring, but I just love the same ole stuff!! I did just get some chocolate soy milk which I can’t wait to have after I run tomorrow!

Mmm I had smoked salmon this morning, too. Never thought about trying it with egg whites! Good idea =)

It’s best with a fried egg–over easy or sunny side up–but I didn’t feel like dirtying a pan.

Have a great time at your blogger meet up! Sounds like fun!

I usually run for a smoothie or a homemade granola bar or protein bar!

Nut butter and banana on toast is the perfect combo! Have you tired cashew butter? Heaven :)

Glad you got to run outside! I love that so much more than indoors. And I love smoothies post-workout but switch it up to whatever I have on hand!

I usually always have a smoothie, but I switch up what I eat with it. The wind is awful here this weekend too!

I… I don’t work out, so the idea of a “preworkout snack” just hasn’t hit me yet. But I do try to walk whenever I can (get off the bus a few stops early, go on a Sunday afternoon stroll, etc).

Smoked salmon is amazing! To me it is a summer treat because you don’t have to prep it at home (aka, turn on the oven or stove) so I get it when I buy my cold summer meals sometimes :)

Running against the wind is HORRIBLE!! I remember this one run last winter that was entirely against the wind, no matter what direction I went. My face hurt, I couldn’t breath, it was freezing..just horrible. I got so frustrated I even broke down in tears a few times. Not fun!

Yuck, I hate running against the wind! Especially when it hits you right in the face! Nice job on sticking it out for 4.4 miles though! :D

I almost always crave Greek yogurt and cereal after a workout! But sometimes if my belly doesn’t want solid food I’ll have a smoothie.

Where do you buy your smoked salmon? It’s so expensive here!

I always get hungrier after I eat! So weird. I usually don’t have much of an appetite after I work out, but I eat anyway… and then I’m ready to eat my kitchen!

I have a really hard time running in the wind — I hate how my nose just runs when it is like that outside! I like a nice warm breeze instead :)

I usually eat the same things before and after a workout — sometimes I switch it up — instead of a banana with PB I’ll have dates with PB before, and afterward I’ll have eggs/toast or a big smoothie. Not much variety, but I know those foods sit well with me.

I had smoked salmon on my salad for lunch – yummmm!

I went for my first run outside for the season (and I am so not an outside runner) – I was running into the wind and seriously struggling. I managed to run only like 1.5 miles, but I know the more I do, the better I’ll become (currently running 4-5 miles on the treadmill at a time maximum)

That’s so weird that you got super hungry after you ate! I don’t know if that’s ever happened to me before!

I tend to just eat what I crave, so it differs from day to day!

I eat half a banana before all of my runs and then I usually have oatmeal or a greek yogurt parfait for breakfast after.

22 Caitlin @ TPL April 3, 2011 at 10:10 pm

I stick with the same basics but mix it up a little. I have a snack before and then breakfast so it normally will be something to do with toast, oats, yogurt, cereal, eggs and fruit

I always have the same snacks – mainly because I’m too lazy or hungry to be more creative! :)

Breakfast looks delicious! I don’t have specific pre-workout food. I usually work out in the evening and I feel like I have to work out longer if I have pre-workout snack. I hate hate hate long workout :( I always have a serving of protein powder after workout though because I’m trying to gain some muscle.

Bloggers meet up sounds fun! Hope you have fun tonight :)

I don’t switch it up because I’ve found what works PERFECTLY! And seriously, those winds yesterday?! Even upstate new york was crazy windy…I felt like I was running through pudding!

I haven’t even found my perfect pre or post workout meal yet! I’m still seeing what what give me cramps, what and when to eat it, and what will refuel me afterwards without making me feel like I need a nap. In general, since I’ve started running my food intake has been cray cray !

I need to experiment some more. Right now I just know I can’t eat beforehand (for ~3-4 hours) but there’s gotta be something that will sit better.

Hi Allie – this may be a strange question, but is that a galss or plastic straw in your smoothie. I have been wanting one of those glass Dharma starws but wanted a recommendation on what size to buy for smoothies! Thanks

Reply

33 Allie April 6, 2011 at 11:19 am

It’s a Glass Dharma straw. I still need to do a review + giveaway. Size wise, it just depends on how much you want to drink at once and how tall your cup is.
