1. Never ever hold your keys/wallet in the same hand as your trash when dropping it into the trash chute of a 21-story building. You will not let go of the correct fingers.

…unless you have an awesome and talented father who will climb onto the trash compactor and fish it out for you with a broom, through a 2 inch slit.

2. A men’s Hanes undershirt makes for a great light bounce…after it has retired from running apparel duty.

IMG_7970a.jpg

3. An egg is meant to be eaten in it’s entirety. The yolk is where it’s at, folks.

IMG_8016.jpg

4. Avocado makes everything better.

5. If you must go to Target, leave those thin plastic cards at home and just bring a 20 with you. You’ll thank me later (or hate me…).

6. Don’t pay attention to the person sprinting uphill on the the treadmill next to you. They’re crazy.

7. The promise of good bread and trashy magazines is one way to get your friend to visit you.

IMG_8018.jpg

8. If you neglect to wear earrings for 3 months, be prepared to experience some pain the next time you do.

9. It’s totally worth the extra $3.50 to watch the very last Harry Potter in 3D.

10. Always have your camera ready. You never know when a rainbow will appear.

Wow, what a heroic dad you have!

And why yes, bread is a great motivator!

Hahaha, oh jeez, I lost an MP3 player once before learning lesson 1. Unfortunately it was really late at night and I wasn’t about to go dumpster diving for it … so your dad is awesome. I completely agree with lesson 3. Completely. :)

That is a pretty rainbow and why the egg yolk? Isn’t that the most high calorie and fat part?

It’s got most of the vitamins, minerals and fatty acids!

I am a pediatric nurse. I drew blood on a child, and when I threw the needle into the locked sharps box, I threw all of the unlabeled blood tubes in there, too. I then had to repeat the procedure. I will NEVER hold both in the same hand again.

Agree with em all, especially the avocado and the egg!
Lesson: Don’t drink a mocha freddo (or any espresso beverage) on an empty stomach- you will feel famished and jittery and spastic at the same time

A life lesson today is one I know but can’t seem to think of when needed…4 hour afternoon naps= not sleeping that night!

Wow! so many of these lessons were amazing. The yolk is fo sure where its at ( my favee part!) Harry Potter was bomb in 3D ( I saw it in IMAX 3D!!). My life lesson of today? olive oil and good bread should be eaten together…always! haha :)

I WISH we saw it in IMAX 3D!! Ahhhh the screen was way too small.

“1. Never ever hold your keys/wallet in the same hand as your trash when dropping it into the trash chute of a 21-story building. You will not let go of the correct fingers.” I did that with my cell phone. Whoops.

And I love #1 and am headed to Target shortly and think #5 is a good idea!

Don’t stress out about life so much because in the end, it will always work itself out (even if it takes a while…I just keep telling my newly-post graduate self that ;) )

PS – speaking of post-graduate [unemployment for me]…are you still planning on writing a post about post-grad weight gain tips?? I am currently struggling with my home food environment since the variety of foods here make it like a supermarket compared to my penny-pinching college house with my roomies ;) Haha! Hoping you plan on writing this soon because I’d love to hear your insight!

I’ll try to think about it more. I don’t have much to write about off the top of my head. I’ll write it down on my to-blog list.

Reply

21 Danielle August 2, 2011 at 10:10 am

Okay that’s no problem! The only reason I brought it up is because I feel like a while back, you had mentioned that you wanted to write a post on this topic(?) Of course, I could be confusing you with another blogger who may have said the same thing, so if that’s true, I apologize!

Ahhh…I still have to see the new HP movie in 3D! I’m waiting until the next Tuesday that I’m with my sister so that we can take advantage of the $8.50 summer deal. My life lesson today – as good as podcasts are, sometimes you need some upbeat music to keep you awake while driving!

I second you on paying the extra $3.50 to see Harry Potter-totally worth it! Today I learned even a small amount of chocolate will motivate you to do things you dread ;) Oh and coloring books-no matter how old you are they’re still amazing (and great destressers!)

What a great dad you have!! Hmm, I wonder if mine would do the same??
I couldn’t agree more about eggs and avocado. First, the yolk IS where it’s at (and I love it runny) and then when it comes to avocado, as I proved last night with my dinner, it definitely makes everything better. Who needs bacon when we have avocado?!?

Reply

39 Vicki August 2, 2011 at 7:07 am

Agree with the egg yolk! Egg whites are pretty much devoid of nutrition, apart from a few grams of protein. Yolks are where it’s at!

Haha love your tip about Target. I’ve only been there twice when I’ve visited the US, but I can go crazy with spending in that store!

My life lesson from yesterday: if you suck up to your boss all day, they’ll let you take home free corn, tomatoes, and berries from the farm.

You had me at trashy magazines lol… the bread is definitely a bonus though! I’m with you on the trips to Target. I go for clearance only items when I’m just in the mood to buy stuff I can barely justify =)

The promise of good bread and trashy magazines would definitely get to me to do or go pretty much anywhere! Life lesson of today so far .. hmm.. black coffee is fine, but let’s be honest, a splash of some sort of milk just makes it 50% better no matter what. :)

I clearly did not learn that lesson last night seeing as how I spent 3 hours watching The Bach.

This posting was by far the best ever, as I can relate to just about each and every “life lesson”. However, I have to add that after a crazy, busy, hectic day, nothing is better than crawling up on the sofa with a movie and a nice jar of sunflower butter for dinner haha ;)

Reply

51 Tamara August 2, 2011 at 11:39 am

LOLs…I held my car keys in one hand and a bag of plastic bottles in the other at the recycling center once, and guess which one ended up in the compactor? :p Fortunately, the guys who work there are very handy with a rake and could get a hold of the key-ring before I was trapped in Hazardous Waste Management all day.

And I agree 100% about the yolks. I can’t understand people who throw them away on the pretense of “health” or saving a whole whopping 40 calories–there’s all those nutrients in there! And it’s a myth that they raise your cholesterol.

Aaah, thank you for the whole egg remark! So so true, I HATE when I see people eating just egg whites. It’s like, you realize that’s almost the equivalent of eating refined grains. Clearly not the exact same, but it all has to do with whole foods (not the store), foods are meant to be eaten whole, not stripped of certain components.

Totally agree about the avocado. I’ve been wanting to try it in a chocolate mousse recipe or a cake. I’m curious how it would be in a dessert!

1. My roomate thought she threw her room keys down the trash chute and her dad actually sorted through the trash bags only to find out that our hallmate had her keys the WHOLE time. They turned our room upside down looking for those keys!!

2. I really want to learn how you make these light boxes…I’m pretty sure you had an older post about it?

3. Did you get Harry Potter 3D glasses? Like, were they in the shape of his glasses? My theater gave them out and I was soooo happy!
