Pumpkin Pie Protein Smoothie

Are you a protein smoothie/shake drinker? I am. Every single day. Even with the arrival of cold weather, I’m still guzzling protein smoothies post-workout. My goosebumps hate me.

You see, my appetite is virtually nonexistent after I run and my desire to chew anything goes out the window. I know I need to get fuel in my body to help with muscle recovery though, so protein smoothies are the perfect solution.

Except for the fact that it’s freezing cold in the house, my body is freezing cold and smoothies are freezing cold. Because drinking smoothies when it’s 30*F is kinda nutty, I’ve been making Pumpkin Pie Protein Smoothies lately to make it feel more appropriate. I chug them and then jump in the shower to warm back up.

It works.

I make sure to include protein in my smoothies since I drink them post-workout. While I could buy protein shakes (in a bottle), I always make my own. There are a few reasons for this: 1) I like icy smoothies 2) I can throw in a variety of fruits and veggies 3) It’s much cheaper and 4) I can add my own protein.

I typically use protein powder, soymilk, and/or Greek yogurt. Lately, I’ve been making my smoothies with Silk Pumpkin Spice soymilk and boy is it deliciously creamy!

Pumpkin Pie Protein Smoothie

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Silk Pumpkin Spice soymilk
  • 1/2 cup canned pumpkin
  • 1 banana (peeled or frozen)
  • 1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice
  • Water and ice

Directions

Blend!

*If your blender is old like mine, start by blending the first 4 ingredients. Then add ice and blend again.

**If using original soymilk, add sweetener of choice and more pumpkin pie spice.

The key to getting pumpkin smoothies to taste good is adding banana. If you’re feeling adventurous, you could even add silken tofu to the mix to add more protein. I’ve tried it before and it’s quite good.

I love that your Smoothie didn’t involve protein powder! Sounds yummy but you need to top it with some Graham crackers :)

My must-have smoothie ingredient is definitely a frozen banana. I’ve tried them without, and it’s just not the same!

Another great way to add sweetness to a pumpkin pie smoothie is to replace 1/2 the milk with apple juice. I know it sounds weird, but it’s actually really yummy! I realize that this would take away a few grams of protein, but I usually drink my smoothie in the company of other food, so generally it doesn’t matter :)

I’m not much of a smoothie drinker, especially not in the winter, but I like them every so often in the summers. I agree that bananas are a must!

I don’t drink smoothies too often, but I have Greek yogurt every single day…no matter how cold it is! :)

I loooove a pumpkin pie smoothie- but I often put peanut flour in mine as the protein source! And, the key for me is using frozen pumpkin (however, this requires thinking ahead to actually freeze a portion of it!!)
