Hello hello. Long time no talk. I had a busy weekend. By the time I settled down in front of my computer last night, all I wanted to do was mindlessly scroll through Pinterest. Speaking of which, my mom has had a Pinterest account for a couple months, but I finally taught her how to use it yesterday and she’s been pinning away!

She’s definitely an early adopter compared to others in her generation. She got a Facebook my freshman year of college when it first opened up to the public and my dorm mates thought it was hilarious. I bet their grandparents are on Facebook now.

Anyways, here are the fitness and food highlights from my weekend…ish.

Thursday

9 miles sub-9:00 min/mi on the 9th of February. Numbers people? You know who you are. This was just two days after my 10 miler. I have no idea how this happened. My legs felt great though.

The more you run, the easier it gets. For realz.

IMG_0617.jpg

Did I mention? My iPod died after 6 miles. Um, surprise!

It’s good practice to run without music, right? That’s what I tried telling myself. I was pretty zoned out by then, so I was able to keep running and maintain my sub-9:00 min/mi average pace. Well, I had to sing to myself while running the uphill portions of my loop :) .

These gloves were on clearance (60 cents for 2 pairs!) at Target. I love them. They don’t keep my hands super duper warm when it’s below 45* F outside, but they’re light and allow my fingers to move around (assuming they’re not numb!).

IMG_0611.jpg

I stocked up because…

a) I wipe my sweat and blow my nose with my gloves (Ewwww. I use different hands, but still gross, I know. You runners understand.).

b) I have a penchant for faceplanting, thus creating holes in my gloves.

Glove hoarding much? $2.40 for all this! Hoard away.

It was lightly snowing all Saturday morning, so I planned to run on the treadmill while watching the Duke vs. Maryland game on TV.

All of a sudden, the snow stopped and the sun came out to play. It completely lured me to run outside instead, so I bundled up and went.

No burglar mask…BIG mistake (foreshadowing!). That is the face of someone who has no idea what is to come…

Mother Nature had other plans for me. She played a cruel CRUEL joke on me.

1.5 miles into my run, it started BLIZZARDING out of nowhere. There were tornado winds so strong I thought trees were going to blow over. This meant the icy snow was shooting horizontally right into my face/body from all directions. I couldn’t see more than 5 feet in front of me.

Like this…but worse.

Not cool, Mother Nature, not cool.

I was 1.5 miles from home and stuck in a blizzard totally underdressed. I wanted to cry…I tried to cry actually. Except it was SO cold no tears could come out of my frozen eye sockets (!!!!).

I was covered in icy snow and had to walk backwards into the wind to go home. Longest 30 minutes of my life. By the time I got home, the snow storm stopped. REALLLY?!? It was still windy though, so I decided to wait for the game to go to the gym. The 1.5 miles I ran in the sun felt great and I was ready to tackle some more miles.

6 miles on the treadmill for a total of 7.5 miles. It was an exciting game that made the miles fly by.

Finally done. I spent the whole day eating to run, waiting to run, and running. At least I got some work done and took care of some stinky laundry in between.

I pretty much carboloaded the entire day. Bread, granola bars, bananas, almonds, Oatmeal Butterscotch Cookie Dough Bites.

carboloading.jpg

It was awesome but all I wanted post-run was vegetables and protein! Salty stuff.

Savory crepes using my recipe for 3 Ingredients Oat Crepes. Just don’t add sweetener and cinnamon.

IMG_8038.jpg

Why has it been so long since I last made these crepes?!?! The batter takes less than 60 seconds to whip together. I should be will be eating these every day this week…err month.

IMG_8030.jpg

Stuffed with avocado and turkey.

IMG_8032.jpg

Topped with an over easy egg. Brown spicy mustard for dipping.

IMG_8053.jpg

On the side, I made a quick salad with tri-colored peppers.

IMG_8047.jpg

I went back for seconds thirds of the turkey and avocado—one of my favorite combos of ALL time.

IMG_8055.jpg IMG_8040.jpg

By the way, the CW-X Stabilyx tights I wear on every single run (and to bed sometimes!) are on sale for $69.95 (cheaper/more expensive in some sizes/colors) on Amazon right now! I don’t know why, but this is a great deal since they’re normally $100+.

These are the only pair of running tights you need! Seriously, life changing. I am tempted to get another pair. They are that awesome.

And then I made another crepe and stuffed it with chocolate almond butter and bananas to enjoy while watching The Grammy’s. I LOVED the performances, especially Adele and the country ones.

A busy but very good weekend indeed.

*Last chance to enter the Camera Strap Giveaway. I’ll be picking a winner next post.

Tell me: What was the highlight of your weekend? Did you watch The Grammy’s? Favorite dress? Favorite performance?

Look at you go! You’re a running machine! My running has been super lazy this past week because I needed a break from a regimented running schedule from my half marathon last week. My “highlight” was cleaning my room and putting away all things California-esque from my trip…I might have cried a little while putting away my bikini while it was 10 degrees outside.

I also did the same thing – I bought 4 sets of those gloves at target for running – I figure if I lose one or they rip – who cares!

I usually wash them after each run as well – for reasons you mentioned.

I got the peach striped ones – but I love the turquoise ones – they didn’t have those!

I know with each mile and the more you run it gets easier, but lately the fear is taking over and i’ve avoided running. When I take the plunge again I’m going to hate myself. That’s a fact.

Another fact is that I WILL be making those crepes. Yum! :)

You might have to change the name of your blog to RUN, laugh, eat!!! You are becoming quite the runner!! Nice sub 9 pace…that is definitely an accomplishment! Especially in the cold winter weather!!

So weird – I had crepes yesterday too! Having it with eggs and avocado sounds so good! I’ve gotta try it.

And I love all the gloves – I definitely know what you mean about using them as kleenex while running :-)

OMGAH! Crazy running in horizontal snow haha! Makes me not miss the Northeast :)

Also those coral striped gloves are super cute. Just another reason why I absolutely love Target.

Just checked out the tights in my size and they’re still full price…so sad :’(. Haha. I can see how it would be tempting to buy another pair!

I’m not very familiar with “snow”, but one time I ran in hard packed snow when I visited my best friend in college at W&L. It wasn’t snowing at the time, it was old snow. I actually wore shorts, and only 2 layers on top. It was pleasantly peaceful. I never run (outdoors) with music, my earbuds never cooperate. I love using that time to space out and just think about things. Sounds crazy, but that’s how I’ve always done it, and I rarely run less than 8 miles at a time. I do a LOT of thinking! Yesterday was the first time it’s been below like 45° all winter, and I was out in full force…blowing my nose in my sleeves…yes, we runners can relate! Better in the sleeve/glove then in your face.

I love the cheap target gloves! I lose mine constantly, so the price tag is perfect. Crepes looked great too!

Gosh, that snow looks brutal! We just bought all of those brightly colored peppers this weekend at Costco. They are so gorgeous. They’re able to make every meal prettier.

You are a running machine lately! Do you just go out and run, without a plan? I always have a route planned out and that is all I do, but I usually want to run more. Do you plan out your runs, or do you just go out and turn around when you feel like it?

Reply

29 Allie February 14, 2012 at 10:41 am

Yeah, I just go out and run based on how my legs and body are feeling. I like being able to decide how far/fast I go based on my energy levels/soreness rather than stick to prescribed numbers. That would change if and when I register for a race.

There’s a 2.2 mile loop around my neighborhood + town that I run. I like it because it’s long enough not to be boring, but I can stop and go home at any point in time if I’m not feeling it.

OMG!!!!! Must make those oat crepes!!!! They look soooo good!!!

What size did you get for the pants? Obviously I have no idea how we compare in sizes…but I always struggle deciding if I should get a small or extra small when I’m buying online. I think I would probably go toward the small, because I’m rarely an x-small on bottom. But then there are the random brands that run big!

Reply

32 Anna Crouch February 14, 2012 at 11:54 am

Oh wait…..I just noticed on Amazon they have a size chart by height and weight! While it’s probably not SUPER accurate, because it doesn’t take muscle mass into account….it gives me a better idea!

Reply

33 Allie February 16, 2012 at 1:26 am

I got a size small. If I get another pair, I will probably get an xsmall. The small fits and still compresses, but I would like them to be even tighter. I was in between the two sizes according to the chart.

Hey Allie, I am wondering, is the compression pants you are using now are comparable with the Zaggora’s pants? Just wondering, might need a thought on them before purchasing :)

I’ve never heard of Zaggora’s so I can’t say.
