Watch Out

Whew! Another busy weekend, another disappearing act. Let’s see…

I spent some quality bonding time with Kat Lobes. Watched some basketball games (Duke vs. BC and NY Knicks vs. Dallas Mavericks), took care of the kiddos (but I get today off), and caught up on sleep. I’m a wild child.

So my mom is like 0.001 seconds away from adopting Jeremy Lin.

All of a sudden we religiously watch the NY Knicks play and now I know what I sound like while watching yelling at the TV during Duke games.

COME ON!!!! REBOUND!!! WHAAAT?! THAT WAS A FOUL! AHHHH! STUPID!!

If you haven’t heard about this kid, here’s his Wikipedia page. Obviously, I’m super jealous of him…of his insane basketball skills and my mother’s intense love for him.

Moving on to my weekend runs…

Whenever I need a kick in the pants, I turn to a) Twitter and b) Pinterest. I can’t tell you how motivating it is seeing pins in the ‘fitness’ category.

That is, if I don’t follow it up with browsing through the pins in the ‘Food and Drink’ category :) .

Bahaha!

I didn’t actually need any motivation on Friday because it was so warm and sunny outside. I couldn’t wait to get out of the door.

I ran 8 miles in 72 minutes. I’m loving the 8 mile distance these days. Long enough for the endorphins to kick in and long enough for me to think through everything. Yet short enough so I can do some leg weights afterwards. Also, short enough that my legs aren’t sore/achy.

Stretching, making a face and taking a photo all at the same time takes some major talent. Jeremy Lin better watch out.

IMG_8119.jpg

Sunday morning, however, was another story. It looked like freezing death outside. I almost flaked and then I got a headache from drinking too much coffee (I get caffeine headaches when I drink too much of it, as opposed to not enough…? Weird, I know.).

I knew the only way to get rid of said headache was to go running. I told myself ‘just 3 miles.’ you know how the story goes…

IMG_8169.jpg

I ran right through 3…5….7….8…9…10…to 11 miles! In 1 hr. 39 min. Exactly 30 seconds faster than the only other time I’ve run that far.

Watch out, Jeremy Lin.

My headache was 100% gone and I felt on top of the world. And later, my appetite kicked in and I felt on top of the pantry.

***

Guess what I found at Homegoods on Friday?! (Right after blogging about it)

GIN GINS!!! Only ONE box. My heart skipped a beat when I spotted it. Kaila tweeted me a photo of a box that she found at her local Marshalls, so I was crossing my fingers and holding my breath.

IMG_0652.jpg

I also got some decaf coffee and a bunch of new-to-me health food finds. It was like hitting the jackpot. They must have known I was coming and restocked the shelves that day.

IMG_0648.jpg

These Lucy’s Cookies are SO good—crispy and biscuity. I got chocolate chip.

IMG_0644.jpg

I also found these Laughing Giraffe Snackaroons. I chose the Goji Cacao & Maca flavor (it was a tough choice). They’re just alright. Not sweet enough for my sweet tooth.

I’m gonna try slathering some sunflower seed butter on them. That always makes everything better.

IMG_0641.jpg

Plus a box of carrot cake mix (my birthday is coming up!) and coconut oatmeal bliss cookie mix (omgahh).

IMG_0653.jpg

There were SO many other things I had to pass up on. Oh Homegoods, I wish I knew how to quit you. NOT.

Alrighty, time to seize the day! I’m making a huge purchase investing in my future today. Back with the deets if I actually follow through with it. Eeps.

Have a magnificent Monday!

Tell me…the highlight of your weekend.

Ohhh, exciting! Can’t wait to see what the investment is. Buying a Jeremy Lin jersey? Ha :)

You’re right, 7-8 miles is a great distance. Long enough to feel like you had a good, solid workout, yet short enough now to wipe you out the entire day (and next day).

Haha I actually typed ‘no, it’s not buying a Jeremy Lin jersey’ and then deleted it. Seriously, it scares me how similarly we think.

Wow you’re so near to the 13.1 mile mark! Highlight of my weekend was a muchneeded day off work today. Public holidays, how I heart thee!

I’m the same way! I get bad headaches from drinking TOO MUCH caffeine… and it doesn’t take long for one of those to kick in! So strange.

Quick question for you — did you go gluten free recently? I just noticed all of your goodies from HG were gluten-free. Just curious! :)

I love getting new food finds from Home Goods or Marshalls…sometimes I’ll find the same things at Wegmans, but it’s usually stuff that I’ve never seen before.

8 Allie February 22, 2012 at 1:48 am

Yeah, Wegmans is pretty good about carrying random health foods. Love that place.

How does the running and headache thing work? When I have a headache the last thing I want to do is run. or walk. I just crawl into bed.

Running is the last thing I want to do, but I KNOW if I don’t run my headache will never go away. Bed makes it so much worse for me.

Omg they have Flackers at your Home Goods? Those things are seriously amazing! They were designed by a doctor and have a ton of fiber and taste good on top of it!

Really?! I’ve seen them twice now. They look dry and tasteless. I’ll have to try them now that you say they’re good.

I won a box of every flavor on a blog contest and found them to be so flavorful! Id love to hear what you think of them! They taste delicious dipped in hummus.

I’m on my laptop right now instead of running. I need to get back into it and NEVER take a day off! That one day off always turns into weeks.

I go through daily battles between browsing the ‘Fitness’ and ‘Food and Drink’ Pinterest categories. I’m very visual, so if I see a picture of someone running, I’ll want to go running! BUT, if I see a picture of a giant pot of bubbly mac n cheese, well, I’m going to go spend obscene amounts of money at the cheese section of my grocery store. And definitely NOT run. Pinterest is so bittersweet!!!

I love those running motivation pics! I haven’t gotten into pinterest yet, but clearly I should :) The highlights of my weekend were 1) finally starting my blog and, 2) if you count today as the weekend, running for 25 minutes straight. I know that sounds like nothing, but it’s big accomplishment for me! Once I get to running 30 minutes without walking I’m going to sign up for my first 5k.

30 Allie February 20, 2012 at 9:05 pm

That’s awesome, Caroline! Back in June, I was panting after running 10 minutes. I understand that’s for sure. Keep up the good work.

I wish we had a Homegoods around here. These kinds of stores always seem to have the best crazy food buys. One of my favorite stores like this is The Christmas Tree Shop. You can definitely find some diamonds in the ruff in there.

I really must know your secret to setting out for a 3 mile run and finishing at 11 miles! :-) Do you think it’s the route that helps you go farther; do you get lost in thought? I have a hard time running far distances alone, but am able to do so with a group. (The only way I could train for my half was with another group of runners.) I’d love to be able to push myself to run far while I’m alone though.

Reply

37 Allie February 22, 2012 at 1:57 am

No, my route is super boring. A 2.2 mile loop that I repeat over and over. I used to run a 5 mile loop that was more interesting, but the extreme hills weren’t good for my legs.

Yes, I get totally lost in thought. One reason I run is because if I didn’t my thoughts would drive me crazy. I need the time to sort through everything. I usually write a list of ~5 things on my hand that I need to think through. Sometimes it’s deep stuff, sometimes it’s simple things like what I’m gonna wear, eat, read, etc. Oh and writing blog posts in my head = a lot of miles.

Who knew Home Goods carried all those foods? I knew they had olive oil, but not that big selection. We’re looking for some furniture right now and are debating about stopping there to look. Must check out food section. I heard about Jeremy Lin on MPR last week for the first time. This guy seriously came out of nowhere and is amazing!
