Tank Top Temps

in Fitness, Snacks

For a second, I thought I was living in Southern California.

I played tennis with Peter yesterday while wearing a tank top and a running skirt. A TANK TOP…in February. Did we ever find out what the groundhog decided? Well, I guess it’s irrelevant now. I mean, if he said we had 6 more weeks of winter, he’s pretty much out of a job.

[I just Googled it and yes, Punxsutawney Phil, you can start packing your things.]

IMG_0657.jpg

There’s a reason I’m not a model, besides the fact that I’m about 3 heads too short (okay, and 800 other reasons too). I’m terrible at posing and I make ridiculous faces. Peter tried to get an action shot…

Now, hold your racquet out like this, bend your knees, and don’t make that face.

IMG_0658.jpg

And then we realized I was on the wrong side of the net to make it even remotely believable. #fail

Anywho, I’m feeling every single stinkin’ muscle in my lower back this morning. Makes sense since I hadn’t touched my tennis racquet since July!

I don’t play enough tennis to warrant buying a pair of tennis shoes. Like actual tennis shoes (I know some of you call ALL athletic shoes tennis shoes). I usually just wear my old running shoes (bad idea!). Running shoes are meant for you to run forward, as opposed to shuffling from side to side like you do in tennis.

IMG_0661.jpg

I know, I’m pretty much asking to roll my ankle. I’ve scraped these down so they’re as flat as a pancake though.

As you can see, my old running shoes get put to good use after they’ve fulfilled their miles. I ran in these back in 2009! Then I ellipticalled/walked them to death before scraping them up on the tennis court.

IMG_0659.jpg IMG_0662.jpg

Moving on…

You would not believe how excited I was to find 6 copies of Smart Source in our newspaper bundle this week. 6x the coupons!

I crossed my fingers for something good. I found a coupon for almonds last time. Sadly, there was not one good coupon to be found in there. Not ONE!

IMG_0663.jpg

Actually, I take that back. Cadbury Mini Eggs are pretty much the bombest Easter candy ever made.

IMG_0665.jpg

I would know. I am no stranger to chocolate.

Do you see any chocolate chips in here?

IMG_0667.jpg

No? I broke into my bag of Cocoa Goodness last night and picked out every last dark chocolate chip in the bag, NATCH.

4 bags of granola open in less than 48 hours. Send help.

IMG_0669.jpg

I am just now realizing how much of that bag I consumed! I wasn’t fibbing when I said there is no shortage of carbs in my low-gluten diet. I mean, chocolate and granola together in one bag? I give it another 12 hours.

Okay, it’s time to go think about my life…err go out and run. Have a fabulous Friday and a wonderful weekend!

Tell me: Got any fun weekend plans? Do tell!

Lo the Bro is coming home for a weekend slumber party starting tonight! I’m so pumped. Quality sibling bonding time. I sure miss living under the same roof as that guy.

Unfortunately the groundhog was right in my neck of the woods. We woke up to a yucky winter storm today! My son is in his middle school’s musical, “Mulan, Jr.” which opens tonight, so that will pretty much take up our whole weekend! Have a good one and enjoy the warm weather!

Agreed–Cadbury mini eggs are the best! My sisters and I look forward to getting them each year (we always pick up a bag to eat while on our spring break vacation!).

Yes, I’ve seen that! I read Liz’s blog every day (we decided that we’re pretty much long lost twins). In fact, I remember reading that post last year and drooling on my keyboard.

I’m pretty much obsessed with Cadbury Mini Eggs – they can never get on the shelves too early!

Silly question: doesn’t granola contain gluten from the oats?

Reply

12 Allie February 24, 2012 at 2:11 pm

Not a silly Q! LGF uses certified gluten free oats, which I also buy from TJ’s to make oatmeal. Oats don’t contain gluten (I believe), but they are often contaminated depending on where they’re grown/manufactured.

No weekend plans. Just praying we don’t get all that terrible wind we’ve had the last few weeks. Gotta love west Texas! Glad it’s warm where you are!

I looove those mini eggs! I’m not a fan of the big cream eggs though – I have a huge sweet tooth, but that filling is even too sweet for me!

This weekend I’m going out for dinner at my favourite restaurant with my family. I can’t wait! :D

Haha, I did the same thing with a bag of mint cookie granola last night. I picked out every little chocolate chip I could find and it was so worth it. You’d think I would just down a bag of chocolate chips but something about eating them one at a time from the granola bags makes it seem justifiable.

I love that today a few of my favorite blogs are talking about snow and you’re talking about tank top weather :-) Even though we didn’t get snow, I think I’d rather be where YOU are! I’m hoping it warms up a little before my long run tomorrow morning!

My parents had me play tennis [and every other sport] when I was younger and I was AWFUL! I would try to hit it hard over the net but I had no control where it went and it usually went over the back fence #fail [haha]! My weekend plans include a lot of consultations with potential wedding vendors- busy but exciting :D

What kind of tennis shoe brands do you recommend for running? I’m not a big runner, nor am I someone looking to spend a lot of money. But I will compare prices. Any ideas?
And the granola bag looks amazing! Where did you get it? I want to pack a few bags of those for on the go.

38 Allie February 25, 2012 at 12:14 pm

I run in Asics. Other brands that runners like include Brooks, Mizunos, Nike, New Balance…it’s just personal preference. The MOST important thing is finding a shoe that is fit for your gait/running style (very very very important!!).

I am part of the Love blogger team, so I was sent the granola from the company. I have yet to locate it in stores around me.

Just thought I would stop by and let you know that I am now also someone that buys food from Marshalls! Your posts totally inspired me to stop in there. Today I picked up some ground ginger and some turmeric. I also bought some light agave nectar and some Dr. Kracker’s Klassic 3 seed flatbreads. Loved the discounted prices :)
