Hot Yoga, Cool Eats {Friday Chex Giveaway}

Happy Friday, yo!

I went to a yoga class at a local studio yesterday. I finally redeemed the $40/month new student pass after many many months of putting it off.

I had to draaaaaaaaaag myself there. I have all the motivation in the world to run, but when it comes to yoga? Nonexistent. I know I’ll feel a million times better afterwards, but I just can’t get myself to go. Something about driving there, rolling out my mat, waiting for class to start…such a process.

However, I’m going light on running this week and I know yoga will only help me be a better runner (I’ve Googled “benefits on yoga” about 20 times this week to motivate myself to go).

image-199.jpeg

I took the Power Hour class (Ashtanga style), simply because it was a short class. It ended up being more stretching than power yoga, which was exactly what my tight legs needed. I could feel my lower back pain just melt away. There wasn’t any music though and the instructor didn’t talk much. I prefer instructors who talk about connecting to the earth and all that jazz.

Since it’s an unlimited month pass, the more you go the better the deal. That alone will motivate me to go as often as I can! I’m hoping 2-3x/week at the very least.

Onto some cool eats. Cool as in super rad AND cold

Mama LLE has been making this delicious Tomato and Basil Salad she made up. Marinated in garlic, rice vinegar, olive oil, salt and a dash of sugar. So cool.

image-116.jpeg

She’s become a Food Network fanatic, constantly talking about Barefoot Contessa.

Mama: Contessa made this dish the other day…

Me: Mama, did you know her real name is Ina Garten? Not Contessa.

Mama: Really? No wonder “Ina Garten” always shows up on the TV. Oh WAIT, I thought they were trying to say “IN A garden.” Like she’s in her garden.” Her garden is beautiful.

Me: BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA (echoed throughout Costco for everyone to hear)

image-179.jpeg

I Scream for Ice Cream!

These babies are always super pricey, but I got them for super cheap (on clearance AND $1 off coupons!). Wahoo! So coconutty (obviously), rich and creamy.

icecream.JPG

After yoga, I caved and got a Brown Rice Salmon Avocado Roll from Harris Teeter. $6 baby! The craving could not be tamed.

image-194.jpeg

Remember when I ate a Cool as a Cucumber Salad practically every day last summer? Well, it’s back!

image-192.jpeg

After our spa appointment over the weekend, we went next door to check out Mom’s Organic Market. I’d only heard about the store, but had never been inside one.

Screen Shot 2012-06-29 at 8.47.18 AM.png
Oh my goodness! They had the coolest stuff there and the prices weren’t too outrageous.
.

image-178.jpeg

Plus free FULL cups of coffee, tea and lemonade.

image-170.jpeg

I finally found Carob Banana Chunks of Energy!! I’ve been dying to try this flavor for so long.

image-171.jpeg

And Naturally Nutty! My absolute favorite almond butter. Unfortunately, the price tag was a bit steep and I just couldn’t do it.

image-172.jpeg

I’m head over heels in love with Michele’s Granola, a local company. I love when I find it in bulk. It’s SO crispy, but in a soft, delicate way (do you know what I mean?). So far they’re available in MD, VA, DC, DE, KY, NJ, OH and PA.

image-177.jpeg

I got a big bag and it’s already gone. Must go back!

Friday Giveaway: Apple Cinnamon Chex Cereal

Did you know most Chex flavors are gluten-free? Well, there’s a new flavor about to hit shelves in July. Apple Cinnamon!

I haven’t had sweet cereal in far too long. Chex was one of my favorites growing up. I used to always pick out the Chex pieces in Chex mix. Anyone else?

This cereal is delicious on its own, but AMAZING with milk! Can’t get enough.

image-200.jpeg

For this giveaway, there will be 6 winners!! 1 winner will receive this package with a Crate & Barrel Bowl. 5 more winners will receive the box of Apple Cinnamon Chex to try out.

image-202.jpeg

Can’t wait to try Chocolate and Corn!!

image-201.jpeg

To Enter:

  • Leave a comment on this post saying whatever you want (favorite cereal growing up? Mine was Cookie Crisp, Cocoa Puffs, and Corn Pops…and Lucky Charms!, 4th of July plans? Weekend plans? Do you practice yoga?).
  • Share this post on Twitter and Facebook. You must leave a separate comment saying you did, so I can count the entry.

I will choose 6 winners at random on Monday, 7/2/2012. Good luck!

Apple Cinnamon!? I’d be in gluten free heaven. Chex are about the only cereal I eat these days.

Growing up I didn’t eat a lot of cereal and I honestly still don’t. My parents didn’t have the sugary cereals in the house.. so I do remember cheerios and rice krispies.

I was raised a Honeycombs girl, but who doesn’t love frosted flakes? Or cracklin oat bran? Or kashi go lean crunch? I have a serious love of cereal …..

cereal is and always has been a weakness of mine. I can remember my dad and I eating “jethro” bowls together- most likely it was 4-5 servings of rice krispies or golden crisp!!

My favorite cereal growing up was Rice Krispies – but it was also the ONLY one my Mom would buy and I never knew there were other, more tasty, sugary cereals out there!!! She just knew that we wouldn’t want what we never saw/knew existed! Sneaky Momma!

My favorite cereal growing up was Cocoa Rice Krispies. It was the ONLY cereal I would eat with milk because it turned the milk into chocolate milk!

I used to love honey bunches of oats!…soggy honey bunches of oats, that is. Yep, I used to come downstairs and make my bowl of cereal and then find something else to do while it got soggy. Then come back and devour every bite! I was quite an unusual kid haha. Thankfully I have outgrown this little quirk!

I never really ate cereal while I was growing up, but Archer Farms French Vanilla Almond Crunch Cereal was an amazing find by my college roommate. She bought it, but I polished ALL of it off. That’s when I realized that I could not be trusted around granola/cereal. It’s scarily easy to eat. OMNOMNOM.

If your practice pranayama (breathing techniques) – it is recommended not to eat at least 5-6 hours in advance. Well, this is for advanced pranayama practitioners. 2-3 hours of gap for short and not very intense pranayama practice is OK. (You will know the answer fast if you keeping awareness of your body.)
