My Fitness Pal

Hello hello! How is 2013 treating you so far? Did you make any resolutions this time around? Well, we’re two weeks in. I hope you’re still going strong with the flossing, eating veggies, being nice, exercising, etc.

Personally, I find it a little harder to stay motivated when it’s cold outside, but I can always count on a fresh [January] start to keep me moving. Of course, cold or not, I’m still running strong.

My total mileage for 2012 came out to 1300 miles on the dot! About a week before the end of the year, I calculated my mileage and found that I was exactly 14 miles away from 1300. That alone was enough to get my tush out the door during what was a frrrrrreezing cold week.

I didn’t set a mileage goal for 2012 or anything. Though I did set a goal to run a race, which I did!

I’ve been asked many times how I track my mileage. I know there are many ways to do so, but I just used good ol’ pen and paper.

One thing I want to do in 2013 is to be more in tune with my body when it comes to running. I want to start writing about my runs. Nothing in depth, just jotting down a few notes on how I feel, how my legs feel, my energy levels, what I used for on-the-run fuel, if I tried a new route, etc. I think it’ll help me be a better a runner.

I was asked by Glam and Welch’s to try out My Fitness Pal, a free app available for iPhone and Android phones, for 2 weeks and blog about my experience. I decided to use the app to record my workouts and write about my runs (I decided not to record what I ate using this app, but rather just focus on my workouts). However, if you are looking for an app to help you keep a food journal, I’d highly recommend it.

The app makes it easy to record your daily intake/activity and you can have it with you at all times (assuming you carry your phone with you everywhere).

Since I take my phone with me on my runs, I can jot down my thoughts immediately after before I forget about them. Though it’s not an app designed for running, so I will still add up my weekly + monthly mileage on pen and paper.

Hopefully the convenience of the app will help me stick with this goal long term!

Tell me: How do you track your workouts? Did you set any fitness goals for 2013?

Crisp, delicious Welch’s Light not only tastes great, but also helps you stay on track. With only 45 calories per serving and no added sugar, you’ll be sure to sip smarter with Welch’s Light! Try both Concord Grape and White Grape flavors: made with our very own grapes and full of antioxidant Vitamin C.

in 2013 I really want to get into yoga! I’ve been practicing with youtube videos for the past month, but I’m gonna try a yoga studio, my trial month starts today :) speaking of which, are you still doing yoga?

I have an exercise calendar within my google calendar and use that to track my workouts. All of my different calendars are color-coded so it makes it easier to pick out certain things.

My goal for 2013 is to be more conscious of what I put in my body. To help me stay mindful of what I’m consuming I have actually started using myfitnesspal. So far, things seem to be working out well. I simply track everything I eat along side my exercise and I’ve lost 5 lbs. already since the new year!
I would recommend myfitnesspal for anyone trying to track what they are eating & their daily exercise.

I do not have any set goals but I would like to be working towards my health (more clean eating and exercise as often as I can). I do not keep track of my fitness but for running- it sounds like a great idea to review the mileage at the end of the year. Congrats on running 1300 miles yay :)

I love using MFP on my Droid! I use it to track my food – I had a sleeve gastrectomy in December & keep close tabs on protein, fiber and water intake especially & you can keep track of pretty much anything food/exercise related with the app.

How’s post-marathon recovery going? How does your body feel? Love the idea of listening to yourself. Our bodies are wise!
